1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor a growing Indian small business that wants cloud access, Zoho Books is the strongest starting point among the products assessed. Its India GST offering covers GST invoice fields, e-way bills, GSTN-authenticated e-invoicing, online return filing, inventory, and multiple GSTINs. TallyPrime is the better fit when the owner or accountant prefers an established desktop-style workflow with GST portal connectivity. BUSY deserves a close look for multi-godown inventory, while myBillBook is worth testing for billing-led operations that may not yet need deep accounting controls.
That is a feature-based recommendation from vendor documentation, not an independent usability test or a guarantee that every plan supports every transaction. Before moving live data, test your exact GST, inventory, user-access, reporting, and accountant workflows and confirm current pricing and licensing.

What “GST-compliant” should mean for your business
In this comparison, GST-compliant means the software can support the Indian GST data and processes your business actually uses. That normally includes tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive invoices, HSN or SAC details, place-of-supply information, GSTINs, tax calculations, GST reports, and—where applicable—e-invoices and e-way bills. Some products also connect to the GST portal or let you file returns from inside the application.

Why Zoho Books is the default cloud-first choice
Zoho Books has the clearest fit for a business that wants to move beyond basic invoicing without immediately stitching together separate tools. Its India GST page describes invoices that capture HSN/SAC and place-of-supply information, which are important fields when invoices span different products, services, or customer locations. The same product material describes e-way bill generation, GSTN-authenticated e-invoicing, online GST return filing, inventory management, and support for multiple GSTINs.
Multiple GSTIN support matters when one legal entity is registered in more than one state or operates registrations that must be reported separately. It does not remove the need to configure each registration correctly. During a trial, create sample sales, purchases, credit notes, stock transfers, and returns for every registration you use, then have your accountant compare the resulting reports with the intended filing process.
Zoho Books pricing shown for India
| Plan | Price shown when billed annually | Price shown when billed monthly | What to verify |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Free plan listed | Not stated | Transaction, user, automation, GST, and support limits |
| Standard | ₹749 per month | ₹899 per month | Annual commitment, included users, GST workflows, and inventory limits |
| Professional | ₹1,499 per month | ₹1,799 per month | Whether its additional automation, users, and inventory capacity match your volume |
| Premium, Elite, and Ultimate | Higher tiers listed; price not stated here | Higher tiers listed; price not stated here | Exact feature, transaction, user, and GST limits |
These prices were displayed by the vendor on 13 October 2026 and can change. The annual figures are monthly-equivalent prices under annual billing, not the same commitment as paying month to month. Confirm taxes, onboarding, support, extra users, add-ons, data storage, and any usage limits before calculating your first-year cost.
When Zoho Books may not be the right answer
- Your accountant requires a desktop-style workflow or a specific local data arrangement.
- Your warehouse process involves stock attributes or multi-location controls that are not included in the plan you can afford.
- Your team needs a user count, approval structure, or audit control that the selected tier does not provide.
- You need a filing scenario that the product can display but your accountant cannot reconcile with the GST portal.
When TallyPrime is the better fit
TallyPrime is a serious alternative when the business or its accountant already works in a Tally-style ledger and voucher environment. Its small-business material describes GST portal connectivity and return filing, e-invoice and e-way bill generation, inventory, edit logs, and multi-user access. Tally’s help material explains GST setup plus portal upload, download, and return filing procedures.

- You can now print to blank check stock. Customization of the check layout is "not" possible at this time. Check the Help file for additional details.
- Electronic form filing for W-2, 1099-NEC and 1099-MISC is available through a third party service (there is a nominal fee for this service).
- Tax forms for 2022
- Includes tax tables for 2023
- Support for new 1099-NEC form
This option can reduce friction when an external accountant already knows the workflow, templates, and reports. That familiarity is not a substitute for testing: confirm how your team will access the data, who can change transactions, how edit logs are reviewed, and how portal responses are handled when a document is rejected or needs correction.
Deployment and licensing questions for TallyPrime
The available material does not establish one universal deployment or license configuration for every team. Ask the vendor or implementation partner to specify the required edition, number of simultaneous users, network arrangement, remote-access method, backup responsibility, and renewal terms. A business that expects sales staff, warehouse staff, and an accountant to work at the same time should model that concurrency before purchase.

A workflow that supports upload and download still requires correct master data, credentials, certificates where applicable, and a person responsible for resolving errors. Document the recovery process so a failed upload does not stop invoicing or month-end work.
Where BUSY fits an inventory-heavy business
BUSY’s pricing material lists configurable invoicing, multiple-godown inventory, GST e-returns in JSON, e-invoice generation, and e-way bill generation. Those capabilities make it a candidate for distributors, wholesalers, and manufacturers whose central problem is controlling stock across locations rather than providing the simplest possible bill.
“Multiple godowns” should be tested with your real movement patterns. Create receipts into each location, transfers between locations, partial dispatches, sales returns, and adjustments. Check whether the resulting stock and GST reports are understandable to the person who files your returns. Also compare the accounting ledgers, approval controls, user permissions, and audit history offered by the edition you are considering.

When myBillBook is enough—and when it is not
myBillBook describes GST and non-GST invoices, inventory, payment tracking, GST reports, e-invoicing, and e-way billing. That combination can suit a small shop, service operation, or field-sales team that is primarily trying to issue compliant bills, record collections, and keep basic stock visible.
The important qualification is accounting depth. Before selecting it for a growing company, ask for demonstrations of chart-of-accounts setup, purchase and expense accounting, bank reconciliation, receivables ageing, payables, period controls, audit history, exports, and accountant access. The product’s stated feature set does not by itself establish that it provides every control you will need later.
Test the GST workflow before you migrate
Use a written test script rather than a general tour. A vendor demonstration can show that a button exists; your test must show that the resulting data can be reconciled and filed.
- Set up registrations and masters. Enter each GSTIN, business address, tax registration details, customers, suppliers, HSN or SAC codes, tax rates used by your products or services, units, and places of supply. Check which fields are mandatory and who is allowed to edit them.
- Create representative sales invoices. Test intra-state and inter-state sales, tax-inclusive and tax-exclusive pricing, discounts, freight, round-off, exports or other special cases only if they apply to you, and both goods and services where relevant.
- Test purchases and adjustments. Enter purchase invoices, debit notes, credit notes, purchase returns, and advances if your workflow uses them. Confirm that inventory and tax ledgers change as expected.
- Generate e-invoices and e-way bills where applicable. Use realistic document values, transport details, distances, and vehicle or transporter information. Record the exact error message and correction path for an invalid document.
- Produce return reports or file a test period. Export the reports your accountant uses and reconcile invoice counts, taxable values, tax amounts, credit notes, and amendments. Do not assume that a report labelled “GST” maps exactly to the return your accountant submits.
- Compare with the GST portal process. For products claiming portal connectivity or online filing, verify authentication, upload, download, status messages, and handling of rejected records. Keep a copy of the response and identify who owns each correction.
- Repeat for every GSTIN and location. A workflow that works for one registration may fail when numbering, stock, or user permissions differ for another.
Match the software to your operating model
Cloud access and collaboration
Choose cloud access when owners, sales staff, bookkeepers, and accountants need to work from different locations and you want the vendor to operate the service infrastructure. Confirm internet dependence, offline behavior, user roles, approval flows, login security, export formats, and the process for restoring access if a user leaves.

- Connect banking, credit cards, debt, investments & property
- Manage & grow your savings
- Create custom budgets & track spending
- Project different debt scenarios
A desktop-oriented arrangement can be appropriate when an accountant wants a familiar local workflow or the business has reliable on-site administration. It places more responsibility on the team to understand backups, remote access, updates, and simultaneous-user licensing. Compare the operating model, not just the feature checklist.
Inventory complexity
List the stock events that actually occur: multiple godowns, batch or serial tracking, units of measure, assemblies, damaged stock, transfers, purchase returns, sales returns, negative-stock prevention, and stock valuation. Mark each as essential, useful, or irrelevant. Then run those events in the candidate system using a small copy of real data.
Businesses with few products and no warehouse may value fast billing more than advanced inventory. Businesses with thousands of SKUs or several locations should not choose solely on invoice design; a weak stock workflow can create tax and margin errors that are expensive to repair later.
Accountant and control requirements
Ask your accountant to specify the ledgers, reports, export files, period-lock rules, edit history, approval steps, and reconciliation cadence they require. Check whether the software records who changed a transaction, preserves the original values, and lets an administrator restrict changes after review. Edit logs and multi-user access are explicitly described for TallyPrime; verify equivalent controls in the other products and in the plan you select.
Compare total cost, not the headline subscription
Build a 12-month cost sheet with the same assumptions for every product. Include the base plan, annual versus monthly billing, GST on the software fee, extra users, additional GSTINs, storage or transaction limits, implementation, data migration, support, training, integrations, and the cost of keeping an accountant productive during the changeover.

A practical selection and migration plan
- Write a requirements sheet. Record GSTINs, states, invoice types, monthly document volume, users, locations, inventory events, accountant reports, and required integrations.
- Shortlist two products. Start with Zoho Books for a cloud-first workflow; add TallyPrime for an accountant-led desktop workflow, BUSY for multi-godown operations, or myBillBook for billing-led needs.
- Run the same test script. Use identical master data and transactions so differences are visible rather than based on presentation quality.
- Have the accountant sign off. Require confirmation that reports, exports, numbering, tax treatment, and reconciliation steps are usable before importing the full history.
- Clean the source data. Deduplicate customers and suppliers, standardize HSN/SAC codes, close unresolved credit notes, and map opening balances. Do not import inaccurate masters simply because a tool accepts them.
- Stage the migration. Preserve a read-only copy of the old records, import a sample, verify totals, then agree on a cutover date and opening balances.
- Operate in parallel briefly. For one controlled period, compare invoices, stock, receivables, payables, and GST reports. Define which system is authoritative so duplicate filings or invoices cannot occur.
- Lock down the live setup. Set roles, numbering, approval rules, backups or export schedules, and a written process for correcting rejected e-invoices or e-way bills.
Common failure modes and fixes
“The invoice looks compliant, but the report does not reconcile”
Check master data, place of supply, tax-inclusive calculations, credit-note treatment, and whether the report is based on saved or approved documents. Export a small period and have the accountant trace several invoices from source to report to portal status.
“The plan supports GST, but our transaction is unavailable”
Ask the vendor to identify the exact plan and workflow that covers the transaction. If the answer depends on an add-on, higher tier, manual export, or partner service, include that dependency in the cost and control assessment.
“Users can log in, but nobody knows who may edit a filed period”
Configure roles and period locks before going live. Test a normal user, approver, accountant, and administrator account, and verify that edit history records the change and preserves the review trail.
Recommended Free Tools
“Inventory is wrong after migration”
Stop new entries, compare opening quantities and values by location, review units and duplicate item codes, and reconcile a sample of receipts, transfers, and returns. Correct the mapping before relying on stock or margin reports.
“The vendor price was lower than the invoice”
Recheck billing frequency, GST on the software fee, user or location additions, implementation, support, and usage thresholds. Keep the quote and the final order form together so renewal assumptions are visible.
Decision guide
| Your priority | First product to test | Reason | Condition before purchase |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud access, multiple GSTINs, integrated accounting and inventory | Zoho Books | Its India material combines GST invoicing, filing, e-invoicing, e-way bills, inventory, and multiple GSTIN support | Validate the tier’s limits and your accountant’s reconciliation process |
| Accountant familiarity and desktop-style ledger work | TallyPrime | GST portal connectivity, filing, inventory, edit logs, and multi-user access are described | Confirm deployment, concurrency, licensing, and portal-error handling |
| Several warehouses or godowns | BUSY | Multiple-godown inventory and configurable invoicing are listed | Compare editions, GST-inclusive total cost, and accounting controls |
| Fast billing, payment tracking, and basic stock | myBillBook | GST/non-GST invoices, inventory, payments, GST reports, e-invoicing, and e-way billing are described | Prove that accounting, audit, export, and accountant-access needs are met |
Bottom line
Start with Zoho Books if your growing business is cloud-first and needs a broad GST, invoicing, inventory, and multi-GSTIN workflow. Choose TallyPrime instead when your accountant and operating model are centered on its desktop-style process. Put BUSY at the top of the test list for multi-godown inventory, and consider myBillBook when billing and collections are the main job and deeper accounting controls are not yet required.
Whichever product wins, make the decision on a scripted test using your own GST registrations, documents, stock movements, users, and accountant reports. Confirm current plans, taxes, licensing, portal behavior, data export, and migration support with the vendor and a qualified accountant before filing or switching off the old system.
