Start by identifying the exact AORUS MASTER 16 before changing anything. AM6H and the newer AM6J Gen 2 are materially different platforms, and the controls shown by GIGABYTE’s software can vary by model, region and software release. In general, use a high-performance profile for demanding work while connected to the correct AC adapter, and use Balanced or a quieter profile for everyday work when fan noise matters.
Identify your exact AORUS MASTER 16 first
“AORUS MASTER 16” is a family name, not one fixed hardware configuration. The AM6H material describes an Intel Core Ultra 200HX and GeForce RTX 50-series platform. GIGABYTE’s 2026 Gen 2 announcement identifies AM6J as configurable up to an AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and RTX 5090. Those systems can have different GPU power limits, adapters and software controls.

Record these details before following advice:
- The complete model code printed on the base, box or invoice, such as AM6H or AM6J.
- The exact CPU and GPU shown in Windows or the firmware information screen.
- Your country or sales region, because a configuration and its adapter can differ by market.
- The installed version of GiMATE or the current GIGABYTE control application.
- The wattage printed on the supplied AC adapter.
Open the support page for that exact model and region and use the manual and software version listed there. Do not assume that a control visible on one AORUS MASTER 16 appears on another.

| AM6J Gen 2 (2026 announcement and review example) | Configurable up to AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and RTX 5090; TechRadar tested a Ryzen 9 9955HX3D/RTX 5090 unit | USB-C and noise observations below apply to the reviewed unit, not automatically to every AM6J SKU. |
Which performance mode should you use?
Use the higher-performance profile for sustained loads
Select the highest performance option exposed by your installed software when you are gaming, rendering, compiling for long periods or exporting video, provided that the laptop is on its intended AC adapter and the additional fan noise is acceptable. A performance profile generally gives the CPU and GPU more opportunity to maintain boost clocks, but the exact power limits are model-dependent. It is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate or temperature.

Run this mode on a hard, level surface with every cooling intake and exhaust clear. If the workload is short, the extra performance may not justify the additional noise; the benefit is most relevant when the machine remains busy for many minutes.
Use Balanced or a quieter profile for normal work
Balanced is the sensible starting point for web browsing, office applications, light coding, calls and media playback. It reduces unnecessary fan activity while retaining responsive performance. A quiet option, where available, is useful in a classroom, meeting room or recording environment, but it can reduce sustained CPU or GPU speed.
Be cautious with automatic or AI modes
On the Gen 2 unit reviewed by TechRadar, automatic AI behavior could leave the laptop hotter and louder than expected outside gaming, and the application sometimes responded slowly. If an automatic mode produces distracting fan changes, switch to a fixed Balanced or performance profile and compare the result with your own workload.

Does USB-C charging limit gaming performance?
For the AMD Gen 2 configuration tested by TechRadar, USB-C charging and operation were limited to Balanced mode or lower, and gaming performance was about 10% of the unit’s maximum. The review identifies the supplied 330W adapter as the power source for full gaming performance. This is a result for that tested SKU and its software, not proof that every AM6J or AM6H behaves identically.
Before troubleshooting low frame rates, check the power source:

- Connect the adapter supplied for your exact laptop and verify that its wattage matches the model documentation.
- Wait for Windows and the control application to show that AC power is connected.
- Set the intended performance profile only after AC power is recognized.
- If you are using USB-C, treat it as a convenience for charging and productivity unless your model’s manual explicitly specifies a higher-performance mode.
Do not buy a replacement adapter based only on the 330W figure. The correct connector, voltage, regional part number and wattage must match your SKU; an exact replacement part number was not established here.
How to make the fans quieter
The reviewed Gen 2 system produced loud fans with a noticeable high-pitched character and ramped quickly, including during lighter activity. That makes maximum performance a poor default for a quiet desk. Fan behavior also depends on room temperature, dust, background processes and the particular CPU/GPU combination.
- Change from high performance to Balanced for non-intensive work.
- Disable or leave automatic AI control if it repeatedly raises fan speed during light tasks.
- Keep the rear, side and underside vents unobstructed; avoid beds, blankets and soft furniture.
- Close launchers, browser tabs and synchronisation tools that keep the processor active.
- Use a fixed profile while comparing two modes, so an automatic rule does not change during the test.
Do not expect a silent gaming experience from a high-wattage 16-inch laptop. The useful comparison is whether Balanced completes your real task quickly enough at a noise level you can tolerate.
What published power and temperature figures actually mean
GIGABYTE’s 2026 AORUS announcement says the system “supports up to 230W system power.” That is an advertised upper bound, not a guaranteed draw for every processor, graphics option or regional configuration.
Tom’s Hardware tested an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX/RTX 5080 AM6H in 15 Metro Exodus RTX-preset runs over roughly half an hour. It reported an average of 111.45 frames per second, an 81.21°C CPU package temperature and a 60.50°C GPU temperature. Those numbers describe that hardware, firmware, room conditions and test protocol; they are not universal targets for every AORUS MASTER 16.

TechRadar’s 2026 Gen 2 sample used a Ryzen 9 9955HX3D and an RTX 5090 laptop GPU with a 175W GPU limit. Its measured results cannot be used as a proxy for an AM6H, a lower-tier AM6J or a different regional SKU. GPU wattage, CPU/GPU pairing and firmware limits all affect the result.
The same review recorded less than 2.5 hours of web browsing and 3 hours 46 minutes of video playback under its stated power-saving conditions. Battery life is influenced by display brightness, applications and power settings together; those figures are not a measurement of performance mode alone.
A safe way to change and evaluate settings
Because there is no confirmed universal GiMATE menu path or settings matrix for every AORUS MASTER 16 revision, use the controls actually displayed by your installed software.
- Install the current control application and drivers listed on the support page for your exact model. Restart if the installer requests it.
- Open GiMATE or the GIGABYTE control application and note the model identifier and software version shown in its information area.
- Record the current profile and fan behavior before changing anything. A screenshot makes rollback easier.
- Choose Balanced and run a representative task for 10 to 15 minutes. Note completion time, fan noise and whether the chassis becomes uncomfortably hot.
- Connect the correct AC adapter, select the higher-performance profile and repeat the same task under similar conditions.
- Keep the higher profile only when its speed advantage matters. Otherwise return to Balanced or quiet.
- If the application becomes unresponsive or the result is worse, restore the previous profile, restart the application and check the model-specific support instructions.
Use the same game scene, project or compile command for each comparison. Do not compare a battery run over USB-C with an AC run and call the difference a profile effect.

- Power limits: changing them can increase heat, noise and adapter demand, and may reduce stability.
- Fan curves: an overly slow curve can allow temperatures to rise before the fans react.
- Undervolting: firmware support and safe voltage ranges vary; an unstable setting can cause crashes or data loss.
- BIOS options: update or alter firmware only with the exact model procedure and recovery instructions.
If your support documentation does expose one of these controls, change one value at a time, save the original setting and verify stability with a repeatable workload.
Troubleshooting common results
The laptop remains slow on High Performance
Confirm that the correct AC adapter is connected, Windows reports AC power, the GPU driver is active and the application has actually switched profiles. USB-C operation on the reviewed Gen 2 configuration is not equivalent to the 330W adapter for gaming. Also check that the game is using the discrete GPU and that an update has not reset the profile.
Fans are loud during light work
Switch to Balanced, disable automatic AI behavior if it is causing repeated ramps, and inspect background CPU use in Task Manager. Keep vents clear and allow the system to settle for several minutes after closing a demanding application.
Performance falls during a long session
Check for blocked vents, a soft surface or a room-temperature change. Compare Balanced and High Performance with the same workload rather than relying on a single benchmark. If temperatures or stability remain abnormal, use the exact support instructions for your model instead of lowering undocumented limits.
GiMATE responds slowly or does not show a control
Restart the application and verify that its version and the laptop’s firmware are listed for your model. A missing control may be a model or region difference rather than a fault. Do not install a package intended for AM6H on an AM6J, or vice versa.
Do AM6H and Gen 2 use the same settings?
No. They share the AORUS MASTER 16 name but differ in platform, potential GPU wattage, adapter requirements and software behavior. The AM6H example reviewed by Tom’s Hardware used Intel and RTX 5080 hardware, while the Gen 2 review used AMD and an RTX 5090 with a 175W GPU limit. Treat each profile, adapter rule and benchmark as configuration-specific, and follow the documentation for the code printed on your machine.
The Bottom Line
Change profiles according to workload, not the product name: use High Performance on the correct AC adapter for sustained demanding tasks, and Balanced or quiet for everyday use. Verify every control against your exact AM6H or AM6J SKU, because USB-C behavior, fan noise, power limits and available software options are not universal.
