Before you let Gemini Spark run a task, audit six areas: the information sources it can reach, Google Connected Apps and Personal Intelligence, custom MCP apps, Chrome and remote-browser access, Keep Activity and saved execution data, and schedules or write actions. Spark can combine connected services, chats, task instructions, skills, signed-in websites and browser session data. Grant only what the workflow needs, keep consequential actions supervised, and treat disconnection, deletion, pausing and stopping as different controls.
Spark is described by Google as a beta feature, so labels, eligibility and available controls can change. Connected-app choices also vary by country, language, device and Gemini app. Use the settings visible on your own account as the final authority.

Start with a data-and-action inventory
Write down what the automation must read, where it may send information and what it is allowed to change. Spark can use task and schedule details, skills, Gemini chats, Connected Apps, connected folders, Personal Intelligence, location, public websites and websites where you are signed in. Browser use may expose page content and session cookies containing authentication information. Files created during a remote-computer task can therefore contain sensitive material drawn from connected sources.

This inventory prevents a common mistake: treating Spark as if it had one privacy switch. The controls differ by source, by whether information is public or authenticated, by how long data persists and by whether the setting disconnects, deletes, pauses or stops something.

Review Google Connected Apps and Personal Intelligence separately
Remove services the workflow does not need
Open the Connected Apps area in Gemini and examine every listed service. Depending on your account, location, language, device and Gemini app, the list may include Contacts, Photos, Wallet, Workspace, Search services or YouTube. Disconnect anything outside the task’s purpose. A summarizer that needs a document should not also retain access to contacts or photos.
Make a task-specific list before reconnecting a service. If the task can work from text you paste into the prompt, that is narrower than granting an entire service. If it needs one folder, avoid connecting a broader repository when the interface offers a narrower choice.
Do not confuse personalization with service access
Personal Intelligence and Connected Apps answer different questions. Personal Intelligence supplies personal context for tailored responses; a Connected App supplies a service as an information source or action surface. Review both settings even when they appear near each other.

Disconnecting personalization access does not necessarily prevent Gemini from using public information from services such as Search or YouTube. The distinction is scope: private, account-linked context can be removed while publicly available material remains usable.
Evaluate custom MCP apps as independent third parties
Read the provider’s terms before connecting
A custom MCP app is not covered by Google’s control over its own services. Google states: “Google does not control, monitor, or secure third-party MCP servers.” Information sent to such a server is subject to the provider’s privacy practices and security measures. Read the provider’s privacy policy and terms, identify the company or individual operating the server, and determine where data may be processed or retained.

Compare requested data with the task’s minimum
Inspect the permissions and supported actions shown during setup. A server may request more information than the task needs. Reject a connection if the requested scope is broader than the job, the operator is unclear or the policy does not explain retention and deletion.
- List every field, file type and account area the app can read.
- List every action it can perform, including sending, editing, deleting or sharing.
- Check whether the app stores prompts, results, files or identifiers.
- Confirm how to revoke access and remove stored information.
Google says write actions for custom MCP apps currently require manual confirmation, but also warns that Spark can make mistakes. Confirmation is a safety checkpoint, not proof that the proposed action is correct. Read the target, recipient, amount, file and visibility before approving.

Remove custom apps that are no longer needed and revoke their permissions when unlinking. Keeping an inactive integration connected increases the number of future tasks that could reach it, even if you do not actively use it.
Understand local Chrome access versus Spark’s remote browser
Local browsing uses your existing reach
The first time Spark browses locally on a device, Chrome asks to connect to Spark. Once connected, local auto-browse can reach the same websites you can access in that browser, including signed-in sites. That may expose account pages, private messages, order details, internal dashboards or other information visible in the session.
Before approving the connection, ask whether the task truly needs authentication. If it does not, use public pages or a separate browser profile. Do not run an experimental task in a sensitive signed-in session. Keep the browser window visible for jobs involving account changes, payments, messages or uploads.

Remote browsing is a separate environment
Spark’s remote browser and remote computer run away from your local browser, but they can still process sensitive website information. Remote-computer task files may contain material drawn from connected sources. Treat downloaded files, screenshots, copied text and generated reports as sensitive until you inspect and delete them.

Local Chrome access and remote access therefore require different checks:

Stop or take control when behavior changes
If Spark opens an unexpected page, selects the wrong account or begins an unplanned action, use Stop or Take Control immediately. Do not wait for the task to finish. Afterward, review browser history, downloads, uploaded files and any account state the task may have changed.
Check Keep Activity before enabling remote features
Know what the setting enables
Google’s privacy documentation says remote-browser and remote-computer features require Keep Activity to be on. Turning Keep Activity off therefore limits those Spark features; it is not a promise that Gemini performs no processing.
Google says chats are still used to respond and to help protect Google, its users and the public, including with help from human reviewers. Do not place secrets in a chat merely because you turned Keep Activity off.

Manage saved remote data
Spark settings let you delete remote-browser data and manage or clear remote-computer execution history and files. Deleting remote-browser data signs you out of all sites in that remote browser, so plan for reauthentication before the next approved task.
Turning Spark off deletes its remote-browser and remote-computer data and pauses tasks and schedules. Turning Spark back on resumes paused tasks and schedules. Before re-enabling it, inspect every paused item; an old schedule may no longer be safe or accurate.
Use a retention routine
- After a sensitive task, download only the result you need.
- Inspect the remote file list and execution history for credentials, personal data or unnecessary copies.
- Delete remote-browser data when the session is no longer needed, accepting that this signs the remote browser out of all sites.
- Clear remote-computer files and history according to your organization’s retention requirements.
Audit schedules and confirmation behavior
Assume a schedule can run without you
Google warns that if a schedule runs while you are offline, an unintended action may finish before you can stop it. Treat every recurring task as an unattended process. Give it a narrow time window, minimal data access and an output that is easy to inspect.
- Use a descriptive schedule name that states the source, destination and action.
- Set the least frequent interval that meets the need.
- Avoid schedules that send, publish, delete, archive or share information without a review step.
- Recheck schedules after changing Connected Apps, custom apps or Keep Activity.
Separate read actions from write actions
Start with a read-only version that collects information and produces a draft. Once the output is reliable, add a supervised write step. For example, have Spark prepare an email reply for review rather than sending it automatically. For file workflows, generate a proposed change list before applying edits.

Confirm the exact operation, account, recipient, file path and sharing scope. Then verify the result in the destination service.
Know what disconnecting and deleting actually accomplish
Disconnecting an app is not chat deletion
Disconnecting a Connected App can stop future access through that source, but it may not remove information already present in an earlier Gemini chat. If a chat contains remembered information from that service, delete the chat as well as disconnecting the source.
Source deletion may take time to appear
Google’s guidance says deleting or updating source data can take days to affect the Gemini experience. Do not treat an immediate change in the source account as proof that every prior Gemini response, chat or derived file has already changed.
Public information follows a different path
Even after disconnecting a service from personalization, Gemini may still use public information from that service. Disconnecting controls account-linked access; it does not make public web content disappear.
A least-privilege review you can repeat for every task
- Define the outcome. Write one sentence describing the result, such as “create a draft report from this folder.” Avoid broad instructions such as “manage my files.”
- Mark sensitive inputs. Identify personal, financial, health, employment, customer or authentication data that could appear in pages, chats or files.
- Choose the narrowest source. Prefer a specific folder, pasted text or public page over a whole app or signed-in browser session.
- Inspect third parties. For each custom MCP app, read the policy, requested data, supported actions and revocation method.
- Choose the execution mode. Use local browsing only when the local session is appropriate; use remote execution only when its storage and cleanup fit the task.
- Set supervision. Require confirmation for consequential actions and keep the first runs attended.
- Constrain persistence. Review Keep Activity, chats, schedules, remote files and execution history before and after running.
- Test read-only first. Compare the draft or proposed changes with the source before granting permission to write.
- Clean up. Disconnect temporary apps, delete unneeded chats and remote data, and revoke permissions that are no longer justified.
What to do when something goes wrong
Spark used the wrong account or page
Stop or take control, sign out of the affected site, and inspect downloads, uploads and browser history. Revoke the connection if the task had broader access than intended. Repeat only in a separate browser profile or a clean remote session.
A schedule performed an unintended action
Disable or pause the schedule first. Check the destination service for messages, edits, shares or deletions, then use that service’s recovery controls. Review the task’s permissions and confirmation settings before creating a replacement schedule.
A custom MCP app received too much information
Disconnect the app and revoke its permissions. Contact the provider using the privacy or security channel in its policy to ask what was received, retained and deleted. Remove affected chats and remote files where appropriate, recognizing that source changes may take days to affect the Gemini experience.
You turned Spark off and later turned it on
Because turning Spark back on resumes paused tasks and schedules, inspect the complete paused list before activation. Delete obsolete schedules and confirm that every remaining task still has the intended sources, timing and action scope.
Availability and account caveats
Google describes Gemini Spark as a beta feature. Custom app access has eligibility requirements, and Connected Apps differ by country, language, device and Gemini app. A setting described here may therefore be absent, renamed or presented in a different location on your account. Verify the controls shown in your Gemini and Chrome interfaces before relying on an automation.
