1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFor the largest reported capacity from one item-holding Outpost furnishing, start with the Sturdy Shelf. Community listings put it ahead of the Diner Cupboard and Chambers Shelf, while the Polished Weapon Rack is the strongest choice specifically for guns. These are furniture slots, not extra universal Raider Stash slots, and each design accepts only certain item categories.
The figures below reflect Frozen Trail version 2.0.0, released on 8 October 2026. Embark has not published an official furniture-capacity ranking, so treat the furniture numbers as current catalogue and player-reported values that can change with later patches.

Storage furniture at a glance
The following comparison collects the capacities currently reported for the most useful storage-capable designs. A slot is usable only for the item types that the furnishing supports.

Furniture storage is separate from the Raider Stash
Frozen Trail Update 2.0.0 added the Outpost and two further Stash upgrade tiers. Embark’s patch notes state: “The Stash can be upgraded further, by two tiers. The new maximum (without Expedition rewards or acquired Nomadic Envoy space) is 328 slots.” That 328-slot ceiling applies to the standard Stash. It does not turn a shelf, cupboard or rack into 24 universal inventory spaces.
Outpost furniture is better understood as category-specific display storage. A shelf may accept selected small items, a weapon rack accepts guns, and seating can be used for Spring Cushions according to player observations. Moving an item into a furnishing can free a matching space in the Stash, but it does not increase every category at once.
The same update summary lists 100 Furniture Designs. That is the size of the design catalogue, not a count of storage designs. Many designs are decorative or display-focused, so do not assume that every piece of Outpost furniture provides a container.

What each furniture category can hold
Shelves, cupboards and tables
Community reports describe shelves and tables as useful for trinkets, fruit and some other small items. The exact eligibility list is not comprehensively documented in Embark’s published notes. Two pieces with similar appearances can therefore behave differently, and a high slot count is meaningless for an item the design rejects.
Rank #2
The furniture shop reportedly shows a design’s slot capacity. Several players also report that the shop does not reveal the full compatibility list until the design has been learned. Use the capacity label as a ceiling, then test the actual item classes after unlocking the recipe rather than planning around a universal stash.
Weapon racks
Weapon racks are a separate storage path. The catalogue lists three attached slots for the Battered Weapon Rack and four for both the Sturdy and Polished Weapon Racks; a recent player report specifically confirms four guns on the Polished rack. A rack slot is not interchangeable with a shelf slot, so use racks when your bottleneck is weapon space.
Seating and other specialised displays
Players report using seating for Spring Cushions. This illustrates the broader rule: furniture can be storage-capable without accepting ordinary loot. Until a design’s compatibility is visible in your game, treat its slot count as provisional and category-limited.
How to choose the best upgrade for your Outpost
Choose the Sturdy Shelf for mixed small-item pressure
If your Stash is crowded with shelf-compatible trinkets, fruit or similar items, the Sturdy Shelf offers the highest single-furnishing figure currently documented. It is the logical first design when you want the most potential item positions from one placement slot.
Rank #3
- Capture and Tame Dinosaurs: Discover over 100 different dinosaurs and prehistoric creatures on the island, finding ways to tame them into useful additions for your tribe's dyno herd
- Survive Above All: Hunger, thirst, basic safety, and protecting yourself from the weather are all part of the game
- Harvest, Hunt and Build: Cut down trees and turn them into a basic home, which you can quickly expand into a Jurassic estate. Hunt for meat, scavenge for plants (or start your own garden!)
- Customize Everything: An extensive crafting system invites you to mix and match materials scavenged from the island, while also modifying the colors, textures, shapes, and styles
- Explore the Island: Solve the mystery of The ARK as you explore this massive island, discovering Explorer's Notebooks (filled with clues!) throughout
Choose a Polished Weapon Rack for guns
If weapons are consuming your Stash space, a Polished Weapon Rack is more efficient than trying to place guns on a shelf or table. Its four positions are dedicated to weapons, making the rack useful even though its raw number is lower than a shelf’s.
Use the Diner Cupboard or Chambers Shelf when access matters
The Diner Cupboard and Chambers Shelf provide lower-capacity alternatives that may fit your unlocked design path or room layout. Capacity is only one decision axis: compare the accepted item class, the furnishing slots you have opened, and whether you can afford or research the design.
Do not rank furniture by raw slots alone
For any two designs, evaluate four questions:
- How many slots does one furnishing provide?
- Which item classes can actually occupy those slots?
- How many Outpost furnishing or placement slots are unlocked?
- What materials and research steps are required?
A smaller rack can be the better upgrade if your immediate problem is guns, while a larger shelf may do nothing for a weapon-heavy loadout.
Materials, research and design access
Furniture recipes use in-game resources. The cited catalogue lists the Polished Weapon Rack at 20 Sheet Metal and 10 Plastic Parts, and the Sturdy Shelf at 25 Sheet Metal and 5 Plastic Parts. The database also displays research requirements for the Sturdy Shelf. No cited catalogue entry establishes material costs for every other design, so check each recipe in your own catalogue instead of assuming that a higher-capacity item is cheaper or easier to unlock.

- Use cunning strategy and tactics to tame, train, ride and breed the 100+ dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the dynamic, persistent ecosystems across land, sea, air, and even underground Build your character's strengths and gain items, skills, and pet creatures using in-depth role-playing systems
- Start a tribe with hundreds of other players to survive and dominate competing tribes...and ultimately discover ARK's true purpose
- Build a fire or shelter, then craft customizable clothing & armors to help protect against damage and extreme temperatures on your way to unlocking advanced technologies and equipment

Design access can be as important as resource cost. A design may appear in the catalogue while remaining unavailable until its research condition is met. Gather the listed materials only after confirming that you can learn and place the design; otherwise, the resources may be tied up while you work on a different requirement.
Step-by-step: add and test storage furniture
- Open the Outpost furnishing interface. From your Outpost, enter the furniture shop or design catalogue and inspect the storage label for each candidate.
- Compare capacity and category. Record the displayed slot count, then determine whether the piece is a shelf, cupboard, table, rack or specialised display. Do not treat the number as general Stash capacity.
- Check the unlock path. Confirm the design is learned or that you meet its research requirement. For the Sturdy Shelf and Polished Weapon Rack, compare the listed Sheet Metal and Plastic Parts costs with your inventory.
- Craft or acquire the design in game. Use the normal Outpost crafting and placement flow. No external purchase or physical accessory changes these slots.
- Place the furnishing in an available module position. If the placement grid rejects it, check whether the Outpost module has an unused furnishing slot and whether nearby objects are blocking the footprint.
- Test representative items. Try the item class you actually need to store. A successful placement does not prove that every trinket, consumable or weapon is accepted.
- Recheck after a patch. Version 2.0.0 values come from a community catalogue and player reports. A future balance or interface update can change capacity or compatibility.
Planning capacity without overpromising a total
Your total Outpost storage depends on the number of furnishing positions and modules you have unlocked, the categories you need, and whether the game allows a particular filled furnishing to be stored. There is no authoritative universal total for a fully upgraded Outpost in the published update notes.
You can still use simple planning arithmetic, provided you label it as theoretical. Two Sturdy Shelves would expose 48 shelf-designated positions if both are placeable and both retain the reported capacity. Four Polished Weapon Racks would expose 16 weapon positions under the same assumption. Those figures are not additional universal Stash slots, and they do not prove that your current Outpost has enough placement positions.

Build around your bottleneck rather than chasing the largest number. A player short on gun space should reserve furnishing positions for racks first. A player carrying many shelf-compatible trinkets should prioritize a Sturdy Shelf, then add a cupboard or table only after confirming that the remaining items fit their categories.

Placement limits and known uncertainty
Recent community discussions say that racks and filled furniture can be stored in Outpost storage, but the exact allowed counts and placement opportunities are not established by Embark’s update notes. Do not design a layout that depends on an unlimited stack of containers.
The community wiki also records known problems with furniture clipping or blocking slots. An apparently unavailable position can therefore be an early-version placement bug rather than evidence that the design has no storage function. Try rotating the item, clearing nearby decorations, or moving to another open module position before abandoning the recipe.
Reports about compatibility and placement are observations, not developer guarantees. If your client shows a different value, item list or restriction, use the in-game display for your current build and treat older catalogue entries as superseded.

Common mistakes and fixes
- Mistake: counting furniture as universal Stash space. Fix: match every item to the furnishing category and keep the 328-slot Stash ceiling separate.
- Mistake: buying or crafting a rack for non-weapons. Fix: reserve weapon racks for guns and use shelves, cupboards or tables for compatible general items.
- Mistake: assuming the shop lists every accepted item. Fix: learn the design, place it, and test the specific items you carry.
- Mistake: treating catalogue capacity as an official guarantee. Fix: compare the current in-game value with community listings after each update.
- Mistake: concluding that a blocked location means the design is decorative. Fix: check free furnishing slots, clear obstructions and try another position because clipping and blocking issues have been reported.
- Mistake: planning a maximum total from someone else’s Outpost. Fix: count your own unlocked modules and placement positions; those variables differ between players.

Bottom line
Start with the Sturdy Shelf when you need the most reported storage from one general-purpose furnishing, and use a Polished Weapon Rack when the problem is guns. Verify compatibility, material requirements and available Outpost positions in your current 2.0.0 client, because these furniture slots are category-specific and community-reported rather than an official universal capacity system.
