Which Fitbit Features Require a Premium Subscription? (Google Health Premium, 2026)

Most Fitbit tracking does not require a subscription. The paid tier—renamed Google Health Premium on May 19, 2026—mainly adds personalized coaching plus selected advanced sleep, stress, workout and sound-event insights. Steps, distance, floors, hourly activity and the Daily Readiness score remain available to Fitbit users without paying.

Exactly what appears can differ by country, language, device, age, account and app version. Some help pages still use the older “Fitbit Premium” name, so look for either label in your Google Health app.

What changed: Fitbit Premium is now Google Health Premium

Google says Fitbit Premium was renamed Google Health Premium on May 19, 2026. The rename does not turn every Fitbit metric into a paid feature. It describes a paid service layered on top of the free tracking experience, with an emphasis on interpretation, plans, coaching and selected content.

Current Google Health materials use the new name, while some Fitbit-account documentation and older help pages retain “Fitbit Premium.” Treat those as the same paid tier when you are checking an account or reading an older device guide. The feature map in the Google Health app is the most useful place to see how a feature is currently classified for your account.

Features that require the paid tier

The following capabilities are identified by Google as Premium or Google Health Premium features. A feature can still be subject to device and regional limits even when you have an active subscription.

Personalized Google Health Coach

The clearest subscription-only addition is Google Health Coach. It turns your Fitbit or Pixel Watch data into individualized guidance rather than simply displaying measurements. Premium coaching can provide:

  • Personalized fitness plans and targets.
  • Daily workout recommendations.
  • Messages that adapt to your progress and recent data.
  • Post-workout feedback.
  • Sleep guidance connected to your goals and behavior.

Google limits this coaching to adults with a Fitbit or Pixel Watch in supported countries. An active subscription by itself does not override those requirements. If the coach is absent, check your age eligibility, device connection, country and language settings before assuming the subscription failed.

Advanced sleep insights and selected sleep content

Basic sleep information remains part of the core Fitbit experience, but deeper interpretation is marked as premium. Google’s account-data documentation identifies Sleep Profile and sleep-score breakdown as Premium service data. The Google Health feature map also marks sleep-trend summaries and selected sleep or wellness content as premium.

Google Fitbit Charge 6 - Fitness Tracker - Obsidian/Black | Google apps, heart rate on exercise equipment, 3-month Google Health Premium membership included, small and large bands
  • Fitbit Charge 6 tracks key metrics from calories and Active Zone Minutes to Daily Readiness and sleep; move more with 40+ exercise modes, built-in GPS, all-day activity tracking, 24/7 heart rate, automatic exercising tracking, and more[1]
  • See your heart rate in real time: Just link your Charge 6 to compatible exercise machines, like treadmills, ellipticals, and more[2]; and stay connected with YouTube Music controls[3]
  • Tune into your body: Track your response to stress with a stress management score; learn about the quality of your sleep with a personalized nightly Sleep Score; and wake up more naturally with the Smart Wake alarm
  • Run your routine with Google essentials: Find your way seamlessly during runs or rides with turn-by-turn directions from Google Maps on Fitbit Charge 6; and when you need a snack break on the go, just tap to pay with Google Wallet[1,4]
  • Unlock more with Google Health Premium: With a premium membership, get personalized coaching that’s built with Gemini and adapts to your life[7]; get a 3-month trial at no cost to you[5] (Google Health Premium subscription sold separately)

That distinction matters: seeing last night’s sleep details is not the same as receiving a longer-term trend analysis, a breakdown explaining the components of a score, or a library of guided sleep content. A subscription may unlock those interpretive layers while the underlying nightly record remains visible without one.

Stress-management score breakdown

Google lists the stress-management score breakdown among Premium service data. The paid layer explains the components behind the score and can provide related guidance. Do not read this as a blanket rule that every stress-related measurement is hidden from free users; Google’s current documentation specifically identifies the breakdown as the premium element.

Workout plans, saved libraries and some guided content

Workout content is divided. Premium-marked items include workout plans, saved workout or video libraries and some guided content. These are different from simply recording an activity you perform yourself. You can continue tracking an exercise session with the core Fitbit tools, while structured plans, saved classes or selected guided sessions may display a subscription prompt.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The coach can also use this content when it creates recommendations. Consequently, two people may both see their workout data, but only the subscriber may receive a plan, a saved video library or premium guidance built around it.

Google Fitbit Air - Screenless Activity Tracker, Obsidian | Fitness, heart rate, & sleep tracking, personalized AI-powered coaching, up to 7 days’ battery life, works with iOS & Android
  • Google Fitbit Air is the unbelievably comfortable, exceptionally smart way to transform your health[1]; and Google Health brings together effortless tracking and adaptive coaching to help make the most of your everyday[2]
  • Unlock more with Google Health Premium: With a premium membership, get personalized coaching that’s built with Gemini and adapts to your life[2]; get a 3-month trial at no cost to you[5] (Google Health Premium subscription sold separately)
  • Comfortable fit - One Size Tracker (130-210 mm): The lightweight, micro-adjustable fit sits comfortably and quietly, so you can wear Google Fitbit Air through work, play, and sleep; advanced sensors and new algorithms power more accurate, precise health tracking, 24/7[1]
  • Designed for every occasion: With no screen to distract you or disrupt your style, your tracker moves seamlessly from bracelet to workout band to sleep band, and you can change looks in seconds – just press the pebble in, click, and go
  • Long battery life: Google Fitbit Air’s battery lasts up to a week, and fast charging gets you one day of battery life in just five minutes[6,7]

Snoring and sound-event information

Google’s account-data documentation places snoring and sound-event information under Premium service data. This should be read as a premium-service classification, not a promise that every Fitbit or Pixel Watch can collect it. Hardware, sensors, app support and local availability determine whether the feature can operate on your setup.

Features that do not simply require Premium

Daily Readiness score

The Daily Readiness score is now available to everyone who uses Fitbit. Google Store Help explicitly says it is no longer restricted to subscribers. A Premium coach may use your readiness result to adjust a training recommendation, but the score itself is not a subscription-only feature.

This is an important correction to older articles and product pages that said readiness required Fitbit Premium. If you can see the score without paying, that is consistent with Google’s current policy; the coaching and interpretation around it are the parts that may remain paid.

Everyday activity and core fitness metrics

The current feature map places routine tracking outside the premium-marked list. Free users can generally view:

  • Steps.
  • Distance.
  • Floors.
  • Hourly activity.
  • Several key fitness metrics.
  • Last night’s basic sleep details.

Exact visibility can vary by device and app context. “Free” does not mean every Fitbit model measures every metric; it means the listed core information is not presented as a Premium-only service in the current map.

Basic sleep details versus premium interpretation

Do not assume that all sleep data is paywalled. Google separates basic sleep details from premium trend summaries, score breakdowns and selected content. A non-subscriber can therefore have a nightly sleep record while lacking the longer-range analysis or explanatory content associated with the paid tier.

Eligibility limits that can override a subscription

Google identifies several conditions for coaching and other premium capabilities:

What’s actually slowing this PC down?

Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Age: Google Health Coach is for account holders over 18.
  • Device: You need a Fitbit or Pixel Watch for the coaching features described by Google.
  • Country: Coaching and other features are offered only in supported countries.
  • Language: Google says feature availability can vary by language.
  • Account and app context: The feature map and labels can differ according to the Google account, connected device and app version.

These limits explain why two subscribers may see different menus. A missing feature is not necessarily a billing problem; it may be unavailable for the user’s location, language or hardware.

How to check what your account includes

  1. Open the current Google Health app connected to your Fitbit or Pixel Watch.
  2. Open the feature you care about, such as sleep, stress, workouts or readiness. Look for a Premium or Google Health Premium label on the feature, insight, plan or content item.
  3. Separate the measurement from the interpretation. For example, a nightly sleep record or readiness score may be visible without payment even when a trend summary, score breakdown or coaching recommendation is marked premium.
  4. Review the subscription screen before paying. Confirm which specific features are listed for your account rather than relying on an older Fitbit article.
  5. Check compatibility and eligibility. Verify your connected device, country, language and age status if a listed feature does not appear.

Google’s feature map is updated as the app changes, so it is more reliable for your account than a third-party list written before the 2026 rename.

Common misunderstandings to avoid

  • “Readiness is still Premium-only.” That is an outdated claim. Google now makes Daily Readiness available to all Fitbit users.
  • “All sleep data requires a subscription.” Basic nightly details remain separate from premium trends, profiles, breakdowns and content.
  • “A subscription unlocks every feature on every device.” Coaching has age, device and country requirements, and sound-event features depend on supported hardware and services.
  • “Premium is required to record workouts.” Premium plans and guided libraries are different from logging an activity you complete yourself.
  • “The old Fitbit Premium name means a different service.” Google Health Premium is the renamed paid tier, although legacy documentation may not yet use the new wording.

Who is most likely to benefit from the subscription?

Choose it for structured coaching

A subscription is most relevant if you want the app to set targets, suggest daily sessions, send coaching messages and adjust guidance using your recent activity, sleep and readiness information. Those are interpretation and planning features rather than basic tracker functions.

Choose it for deeper sleep or stress analysis

If you mainly want to count steps or see last night’s sleep, the free layer may cover your needs. Premium becomes more relevant when you want Sleep Profile information, sleep-score explanations, longer-term trend summaries or the stress-management score breakdown.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Check the catalog before paying for workouts

People who expect plans, saved workout videos or guided sessions should inspect the current catalog in their app. Google marks some workout content as premium, not every possible workout feature. The available library can depend on country, device and language.

Skip the subscription when you only need core tracking

If your goals are routine activity logging, basic sleep details and the Daily Readiness score, Google’s current feature map places those capabilities in the core experience. You may not gain enough from the paid tier unless you also want its coaching or advanced insight layers.

Bottom line

Google Health Premium is primarily an interpretation and coaching subscription, not a requirement for ordinary Fitbit tracking. Paywalled features include Google Health Coach, selected sleep trends and breakdowns, stress-score breakdowns, premium workout plans and libraries, and snoring or sound-event information where supported. Daily Readiness, steps and other routine metrics remain available without Premium. Confirm the labels in your own Google Health app because eligibility and feature availability change by account, device, country, age and language.
