Start with connected-app permissions, optional health features, and location access. Keep the tracking and sharing you find useful; turn off or revoke what you do not want. Fitbit Air data is managed through Google Health, and the exact controls can depend on your device, account, and current app version. Google’s published guidance describes the controls but does not provide a verified Fitbit Air-specific tap path for every metric.
What Fitbit Air can contribute to Google Health
Google lists Fitbit Air as a source of activity, sleep, resilience, heart-rate, breathing, blood-oxygen, and skin-temperature-variation data. Its device data catalog also includes connected GPS; steps, distance, swimming, cardio fitness (VO2 max), cardio load and target cardio load; sleep logs, stages and Sleep Score; resting heart rate and heart-rate variability. Google’s Fitbit device data list is a catalog of possible data types, not proof that each signal is always collected or has its own switch. Collection varies by device, service, and configuration.

Use the list to decide what you want the service to track, but do not assume every metric is individually configurable on Fitbit Air. Google also cautions that sleep tracking is not intended to diagnose or treat medical conditions. Google Health’s privacy information explains the broader data categories and controls.

Connected apps and data sharing
Check which apps and services are connected and what data each is allowed to receive. Revoke access for services you no longer use or do not trust with the relevant information. Google says sharing can be managed in Google Health or through the connected service. For Health Connect, Android users can manage or stop access in Google Health settings or Android settings. The precise route and available integrations may vary.

Google Health can connect with Health Connect and other services, and the flow of information depends on your choices and the connected app or platform. Google’s May 26, 2026 connectivity article described user-selected sharing and export options; it characterized Apple Health sharing as planned at that time, so check current availability rather than assuming that integration is live. Google’s connectivity announcement explains the options it described.
Optional health features
Review optional features and leave enabled only those you want. Google says it explains collection and use before optional features are activated, and that users can turn them on or off. This is a way to limit future collection or use; switching something off does not necessarily erase data already stored. Feature availability also varies, so do not infer that every Google Health feature or data type is available on Fitbit Air or in your region.
Health Coach and personalized insights
Treat Health Coach as a separate choice from basic tracking. If you opt in, Google says Coach access can include historical and future health and wellness data, your interactions with Google Health, information from connected apps, and reproductive or sexual health information stored with Google Health. If that scope is more than you want to share for personalized guidance, do not opt in or turn off personalized insights. Google says doing so stops future use for that feature, but does not delete existing data.

Location permission
Google says precise location is collected for select features when location access is granted. If you do not want location-based functionality, review and remove Google Health’s location permission in the app or your mobile-device settings. Location is not established as necessary for every Fitbit Air function, so weigh any location-dependent feature you use before disabling it.

Google says you can export your data, delete selected health history, or leave Google Health. These actions have different effects: exporting gives you a copy; deleting selected history removes the chosen records; leaving the service removes associated Google Health data from your Google Account. Google says information previously authorized for use with other Google services is not automatically removed when you leave, so consider those services separately and revoke access where appropriate. Google’s privacy FAQ describes the available controls.
Google describes health and wellness history as retained until you choose to delete it or leave Google Health, because it supports personal statistics and other features. It does not state one general fixed retention period; some data tied to a particular feature may be deleted when no longer needed for that feature.

Protect the account that holds the data
Enable two-step authentication on your Google Account if it is not already enabled. This protects account access; it does not change what Fitbit Air tracks or which services receive data. Google’s Google Health privacy guidance identifies two-step authentication as an available account-security measure.

What Google’s advertising commitment does—and does not—mean
Google states: “Google committed to not use Fitbit users’ health and wellness data for Google Ads.” That is Google’s stated commitment, not an independent audit finding. It does not mean that no information is collected, nor does it mean integrations cannot share information when you authorize them. Review sharing permissions separately.
Google says Google Account users’ Google and Fitbit data is covered by the Google Privacy Policy and supplemental Google Health privacy guidance. Categories can include setup details, health and wellness data, connected-service information, medical records if uploaded or connected, location for select features when permission is granted, and service diagnostics and usage information.
