On a ColorOS 16 phone, change four controls first: sensitive app permissions, lock-screen notification privacy, per-app notification behavior, and Private Safe if you use it. App icon badges are a separate, lower-priority choice. These settings solve different problems: permissions control what an app can access, while notification settings control what can be seen or heard. Menu names and availability vary by OPPO model, region, and software build, so use Settings search if a path below is missing.
Start with this priority order
You do not need to change every privacy switch at once. The order below addresses the most common ways private information is exposed: an app receiving more data than it needs, message text appearing on a lock screen, an overly chatty app displaying alerts, or protected files becoming inaccessible after a password change.

| Setting | ColorOS path documented by OPPO | What it controls | Best first choice |
|---|---|---|---|
| App permissions | Settings > Security and Privacy > Privacy or Privacy Control > Permission manager | Access to camera, location, photos, microphone, contacts and other protected resources | Allow only what the app’s function requires; use deny or ask where offered |
| Hide notification details | Settings > Notification & Status Bar > Hide notification details on Lock screen (ColorOS 14.1 and later path) | Whether notification message content is readable from the lock screen | Hide details when you want an alert without exposing its text |
| Lock-screen notification visibility | Settings > Notification and Quick Settings > Lock screen List > Show lock screen notifications (ColorOS 15–16 path) | Whether notifications appear on the lock screen at all | Turn off for maximum lock-screen privacy; leave on if glanceable alerts matter |
| Per-app notifications | Open an app’s notification settings from Settings; exact labels vary | Banners, lock-screen display, badges, sounds and vibration for each app | Keep essential alerts and reduce sensitive or low-value notifications |
| Privacy Password and Private Safe | Settings > Security & Privacy > More security & privacy > Privacy Password | Access to the protected Private Safe area | Keep the password if you rely on Private Safe; back up files before disabling it |
| App icon badges | Settings > Notifications & Quick Settings > Badge | Dot or count indicators on app icons | Disable or limit badges when visible metadata is distracting or sensitive |
OPPO’s support pages explicitly describe these controls for ColorOS 16 or the ColorOS 14–16 range, while also warning that screens and options differ between phones. Treat the paths as starting points rather than a guarantee that every handset will show identical labels.
Check your model and build before changing anything
Open Settings and use its search field for terms such as Permission manager, Lock screen notifications, Hide notification details, Privacy Password or Badge. Search is often faster than navigating a different menu hierarchy after an update. Note your exact OPPO model and ColorOS build in the device information screen; support instructions can differ by model, market and release.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Change one category at a time and test it with a non-sensitive account or sample notification. A privacy setting that blocks a payment alert, navigation prompt or work message may be too restrictive for your routine. If an option is absent, do not assume the phone is faulty: OPPO states that not every model supports every lock-screen choice.
Review app permissions in Permission manager
Open the permission list
- Open Settings.
- Go to Security and Privacy, then Privacy or Privacy Control.
- Tap Permission manager.
- Choose a sensitive category such as Camera, Location, Photos, Microphone or Contacts.
- Select an app and choose the narrowest option that still supports the feature you intend to use. Depending on the app and permission, ColorOS may offer allow, deny or ask-style choices.
Review by permission category when you want to see every app that can reach a resource. Review by app when you are auditing one unfamiliar or rarely used application. The objective is not to deny everything; it is to match access with an app’s actual function.
Use the app’s function as the test
- A video-call app needs camera and microphone access while you are on a call, but it does not automatically need contacts.
- A map app may need location while navigating. If ColorOS offers a less-permissive or ask option, use it when continuous access is unnecessary.
- A photo editor may need selected photos rather than an unrestricted photo library, where the phone provides that distinction.
- A messaging app may need contacts for address-book suggestions, but you can deny that access if you are willing to enter numbers manually.
After changing a permission, open the related feature. If it fails, return to Permission manager and restore the least-privileged setting that makes the feature work. Blanket denial can break scanning, attachments, navigation, voice input or calling.

Permission problems to avoid
Do not confuse a permission with a notification. Camera, location, photos, microphone and contacts permissions govern data access; they do not stop an app from sending an alert. Conversely, disabling notifications does not revoke an app’s access to those resources. Audit both systems when the privacy concern involves a particular app.
Hide message content without losing every lock-screen alert
Hide notification details
For ColorOS 14.1 and later, OPPO documents Settings > Notification & Status Bar > Hide notification details on Lock screen. This is the balanced choice when you want to know that an alert arrived but do not want names, message previews or other text readable by someone nearby. The phone can still signal that a notification exists while withholding its details until the device is unlocked, depending on the app and model.
Look for wording that specifically says hide notification details or notification content. If the exact label is not present, search Settings for “notification details” and “lock screen.” OPPO notes that the option is not available on every phone.

Understand the older ColorOS 14.0 route
OPPO lists a different route for ColorOS 14.0: Lock screen > Lock screen notifications > Do not show. That setting can suppress lock-screen notifications rather than merely concealing their text. Use the label on your phone as the authority, because applying an older path to a newer build can lead you to the wrong control.
The Tool Desk
Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Choose whether notifications appear on the lock screen at all
For ColorOS 15–16, OPPO documents Settings > Notification and Quick Settings > Lock screen List > Show lock screen notifications. This is a visibility switch, not a content-redaction switch. Turning it off removes lock-screen notifications from view; hiding details keeps an alert signal while masking its message.
| Choice | Privacy | Alert usefulness | Convenience |
|---|---|---|---|
| Show notifications and details | Lowest when the phone is unattended | Highest at a glance | Highest |
| Show notifications, hide details | Higher because message text is concealed | Retains an indication that something arrived | Good balance for most users |
| Hide lock-screen notifications | Highest on the lock screen | No lock-screen alert information | Requires unlocking or another notification surface |
Choose the middle option if you routinely need to notice incoming alerts but share a desk, car or room with other people. Choose full suppression if even the app name or alert presence is sensitive. Verify the result by sending yourself a test message and viewing the locked phone from arm’s length.

Configure notifications one app at a time
OPPO’s general notification guidance allows control over lock-screen display, banners, badges, sounds and vibration. The exact ColorOS 16 route is not identical on every model, so open Settings and search for Notifications, then select the app’s notification page. Some phones also expose an app’s notification settings from an individual notification or from the app-information screen.
Keep high-value alerts
Leave notifications enabled for services where timing matters, such as calls, two-factor authentication, travel changes or an urgent work channel. Then reduce exposure rather than disabling the entire app: hide its lock-screen content, turn off banners, or silence sound and vibration while retaining a notification in the shade.

Reduce low-value or sensitive alerts
Shopping, social, game and promotional apps often generate alerts that reveal activity without providing urgent value. Disable their lock-screen presentation or banners, and consider turning off sound, vibration and badges. For a private conversation app, retaining the alert while hiding details is usually less disruptive than suppressing all notifications.
Per-app controls are more precise than one global switch. They let you protect a banking or messaging app without losing navigation prompts or calls from other apps.

Set expectations before enabling it
OPPO places privacy-password management for ColorOS 14–16 under Settings > Security & Privacy > More security & privacy > Privacy Password. Private Safe is intended for files you want behind an additional privacy boundary. Availability and naming can vary, so search Settings for Private Safe if the menu is not visible.
Choose a password you can retain securely. OPPO states that it does not store personal privacy passwords, so losing the password can prevent access to the protected area. Keep your recovery information where your normal device-unlock credentials cannot be casually viewed.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

Before disabling protection
Turning off the privacy password removes the protected-area feature. Move important photos, documents or other files out of Private Safe, and back them up, before disabling it. Do not treat a password reset or uninstall as a substitute for an export: protection changes can affect how files are reached from ordinary gallery or file-manager views.
Adjust app icon badges separately
ColorOS 16 lists the badge control at Settings > Notifications & Quick Settings > Badge. Badges are the dots or counts shown on app icons. They can reveal that a private app has activity even when lock-screen previews are hidden, so review badges independently.
Disable badges globally if you do not want visible counts, or limit them where the interface allows per-app choices. If you hide lock-screen details but leave badges enabled, someone looking at the home screen may still infer that a message or account event occurred. Conversely, badges can be useful for a calendar, calls or a work queue when lock-screen alerts are suppressed.
Features that may not appear on every handset
OPPO’s ColorOS product material promotes features such as OPPO Lock and Private Computing Cloud, but that material does not establish that every feature is present on every ColorOS 16 phone or in every market. Do not assume a product-page feature is available on your model; check Settings and the model-specific support documentation.
OPPO’s newsroom also describes Smart Notification Hiding as a feature that detects whether the owner is viewing the screen and then displays notifications. Treat this as an OPPO-described capability rather than a universal ColorOS 16 promise. If your phone offers it, read the on-device description and test it with a harmless notification before relying on it for sensitive messages.
Troubleshoot when a path or setting is missing
- Search Settings: Try alternate terms such as “lock screen,” “notification details,” “permission,” “privacy password” and “badge.”
- Check the build: Confirm the phone is actually running ColorOS 16; instructions for ColorOS 14.0, 14.1 and 15 can use different labels.
- Check model limitations: OPPO warns that phone models and settings can differ. An absent option may be unsupported rather than hidden.
- Inspect the app page: If a global notification menu does not show the control you need, open the individual app’s notification settings.
- Test after every change: Send a test alert, lock the phone and verify what appears, then check the app feature whose permission you changed.
- Recover carefully: Restore a permission or notification category if an essential feature stops working. For Private Safe, locate and back up files before changing the privacy-password configuration.
A practical ColorOS 16 privacy checklist
- Record your OPPO model, region and ColorOS build.
- Use Permission manager to audit camera, location, photos, microphone and contacts.
- For each app, choose allow, deny or ask according to the feature you actually use.
- Decide whether lock-screen notifications should be visible at all.
- If alerts remain visible, enable hiding of notification details where your model supports it.
- Open notification settings for sensitive and low-value apps; adjust banners, lock-screen display, sounds, vibration and badges.
- If you use Private Safe, retain the privacy password and back up files before disabling protection.
- Review Badge settings separately so home-screen indicators do not disclose activity.
- Send test notifications and verify the locked-screen result after the changes.
These controls work best as a combination: permissions limit what apps can access, per-app notification settings limit what they announce, lock-screen controls limit what bystanders can read, and Private Safe protects selected files. Recheck the paths after major ColorOS updates because OPPO can rename or relocate options.
