Before you leave, check your camera’s framing guides, settings that persist between sessions, photo and video formats, resolution, and—on Galaxy phones—location tags. These are preference and workflow choices, not universal upgrades: the best setup depends on how you shoot, how much storage you have, and how you share or edit your photos. Menu names and availability vary by phone model and software version.
Start with the settings that affect every shot
Turn on framing guides if they help you compose
On iPhone, open Settings > Camera and enable Grid and Level if you want guides for aligning horizons and vertical lines. Apple also documents a camera timer and 1:1, 4:3, and 16:9 aspect-ratio options; use those when a particular shot calls for them rather than treating them as required pre-trip changes.

On Samsung Galaxy, open the Camera app’s settings and look for Composition guide or Composition lines. Samsung’s label varies by model. These guides can help with framing and keeping lines level; they do not change the image itself. Apple’s camera tools guide and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide describe these controls.

Choose what the camera remembers
If you often want the camera to reopen in a particular mode, review Settings > Camera > Preserve Settings on iPhone. Apple lists options such as Camera Mode, exposure adjustment, Night mode, and Live Photo, with availability depending on the device. Enable only the choices you want carried into later sessions; otherwise, the camera may retain a mode or control you would rather reset.

On supported Galaxy phones, Camera settings include Settings to keep. Samsung documents options such as shooting mode, selfie angle, and filters. The available choices differ by model, so check the controls on your own phone before relying on them during a trip. See Apple’s Preserve Settings guide and Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide.
Choose photo resolution and format for your storage and workflow
iPhone: use higher resolution when you have a reason
On supported iPhone models, Camera settings provide resolution controls. Apple’s advanced camera guide describes 12-megapixel and 24-megapixel defaults on supported devices, as well as a route to 48-megapixel capture. The options and path depend on the model; check Apple’s advanced camera controls guide for device-specific details.

- Upgraded 28x Telephoto Lens – Wider View & Easier Framing: Designed for everyday users, this 28x telephoto lens delivers a wider field of view than most 28x lenses, making it easier to find and frame distant subjects. Whether you're at a concert, a sports game, or just exploring nature, you'll get crisp, high-resolution close-ups without the hassle of perfect alignment.
- Advanced Optical Performance with Reduced Edge Darkening: Features a breakthrough light path design for an ultra-wide view and excellent light intake. The field-of-view ring helps reduce edge darkening, so you get a cleaner image with fewer dark corners (results may vary by phone model). High resolution and true color reproduction significantly enhance your mobile photography.
- Stable Long-Distance Capture & Monocular Function: With 28x magnification, capture clear and steady shots of distant subjects. The lens can also be used as a monocular telescope for extended observation—perfect for birdwatching, wildlife, or scenic views.
- Wide Compatibility & Versatile Use: Perfect for sports events, concerts, bird watching, wildlife observation, and travel. Compatible with iPhone, Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, and most other smartphones.
- Portable & User-Friendly: Crafted with high-quality glass and a durable yet lightweight body. The universal clip attaches securely to your phone, and the compact design fits easily in a pocket or bag—ideal for travel and outdoor adventures.
Higher resolution can be useful if you expect to crop or want more image detail, but it can consume more storage. If you mainly share images online and want to keep more room for a long trip, the default may suit you better.

1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsProRAW is for editing, not an automatic travel upgrade
Apple says ProRAW retains more information for editing and produces larger files. Consider it when you plan to edit images and have the storage and workflow for those files; it is not necessary for ordinary snapshots. Availability depends on the iPhone model. Apple explains the tradeoff in its Apple ProRAW guide.

- Get Closer To Everyday Distant Moments: Bring distant sports events, birds, boats and travel landmarks closer when your phone camera cannot reach. The 28X optical telephoto lens is designed for stable outdoor subjects approximately 49–262 ft / 15–80 m away, making everyday long-distance observation and smartphone photography more accessible.
- Wider, More Natural Telephoto View: Compared with many higher-power phone telescopes, the 28X design provides a wider field of view and makes distant subjects easier to find and frame. It is a practical choice for beginners who prefer a more natural telephoto view instead of an extremely narrow image.
- Smaller Edge Darkening—Phone Models May Vary: Designed to reduce edge darkening on many smartphones. Because camera position and sensor size vary, some newer multi-camera phones may still show slight dark edges at 1X. Center the lens over the main camera and apply a small amount of phone zoom when needed.
- Manual Focus For Clearer Distant Detail: Rotate the focus ring slowly until your subject appears sharp. At 28X magnification, even small hand movements become visible, so brace your arms or use a tripod for clearer photos and video. For moving subjects, set your position and focus before the moment begins.Tripod is recommended and sold separately.
- Universal Clip For Popular Smartphones: Works with many iPhone, Samsung Galaxy, Google Pixel and Android main cameras. Remove thick phone cases, identify the main 1X camera, center the lens carefully and disable automatic macro or lens switching when possible. The aluminum body also works as a compact handheld monocular for travel and outdoor observation.
Galaxy: check photo and video formats on your model
Samsung’s Galaxy S26 support guide lists HEIF as a Photo mode format and describes multiple video options, but those controls should not be assumed to exist on every Galaxy. Check your Camera settings for Photo format and Video format, then consider whether your storage, editing apps, devices, and intended recipients handle the selected formats smoothly. A high-efficiency format may fit your workflow, but compatibility is not universal. Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide documents options for that model.
Decide whether travel photos should carry location information
On supported Galaxy phones, Location tags in Camera settings attach GPS location information to photos and videos. Tags can help you organize images by where they were taken, but they also put location data in the media. Turn them on if that organization is useful and you are comfortable including the information; leave them off if you prefer not to record it.

The Apple support material cited here does not establish a current iPhone menu path for an equivalent camera location-tag control. Check Apple’s instructions for your iOS version and device rather than relying on a guessed path. Samsung’s location-tag behavior is described in its Galaxy S26 camera guide.
For video, change only controls that match your plans
If you expect to record while walking or in dim conditions, look in your Galaxy Camera settings for supported video controls such as Stabilization and Auto FPS. Samsung documents these for supported devices; the exact menu and availability vary. They are situational choices, so there is little reason to change them if you will mostly take still photos. See Samsung’s Galaxy S26 camera guide and Galaxy Z Flip6 camera feature guide.
