Which Budget Soundbar Is Right for Your TV? Picks and Buying Guide

The right budget soundbar depends on what you need most: a small bar to save space, a subwoofer for fuller bass, or separate rear speakers for more convincing surround. There is no universal winner, and “budget” depends on your price ceiling and country. Use the models below as a shortlist, then confirm local price, stock, exact version, and TV compatibility before buying.

Budget soundbar picks by need

These recommendations draw on current 2026 buying guides and reviews. Price and availability vary by market and date; the picks are not a live price ranking. In particular, a model described as budget within one guide may not fit a strict under-$100 limit.

Model Configuration and connections Best fit Important trade-off
Hisense AX5140Q 5.1.4 system with a separate subwoofer, wireless satellites, and up-firing drivers. Shoppers seeking a more complete surround and height-effect setup within the tier covered by RTINGS’ 2026 budget guide. It is a larger, more feature-rich system than a compact standalone bar; “budget” here is relative to that guide. RTINGS changed its top pick to this model on March 20, 2026, citing price fluctuations. RTINGS’ 2026 budget soundbar guide
Hisense HS2100 2.1 with a compact subwoofer, ARC, optical, and Bluetooth. A low-price option for adding bass when a separate rear-speaker system is not the priority. RTINGS says it can sit just above the $100 cutoff, depending on price. Dolby Digital and DTS over the listed connections are downmixed to stereo, and the guide notes some compression at regular and high volume. RTINGS’ under-$100 guide
Sony HT-S100F Standalone 2.0 bar with ARC, optical, and Bluetooth. Small spaces or listeners who do not want a separate subwoofer. Often under $100 according to RTINGS’ guide, but its price fluctuates. It has no subwoofer or DTS support; the under-$200 guide also notes no dedicated HDMI input, Wi-Fi, or AirPlay. Expect less low-end impact than from a subwoofer-equipped system. RTINGS’ under-$100 guide and under-$200 guide
Roku Streambar Compact standalone bar, under 14 inches wide, with Roku streaming built in. People prioritizing a very small footprint and integrated streaming. Its price fluctuates around $100, and it does not replace the bass or surround potential of a separate subwoofer and speakers. RTINGS’ under-$100 guide
TCL S45H Full-sized standalone bar with Dolby Atmos support. Dialogue-heavy viewing where a simple stereo presentation is enough. RTINGS says Atmos is downmixed; without a separate subwoofer, bass and surround are limited. RTINGS’ under-$100 guide
Hisense HS5100 5.1 system with discrete satellites and a center channel. Shoppers who value separate surround speakers and a center channel. RTINGS’ under-$200 guide says it lacks Atmos compatibility. A center channel may help with dialogue, but does not guarantee clarity in every room or with every program. RTINGS’ under-$200 guide
Creative Stage Pro Compact bar and subwoofer; Dolby Audio, HDMI ARC, optical, AUX, USB-C, and Bluetooth 5.3. Buyers who want several connection choices in a compact subwoofer-equipped set. What Hi-Fi?’s guide listed a UK Amazon offer when captured; that offer is not a current or transferable price for other markets. What Hi-Fi?’s budget guide
Yamaha SR-B30A Standalone two-channel bar with built-in ported subwoofers, simulated surround/height processing, and Bluetooth. Listeners who want built-in bass without a separate subwoofer box. Crutchfield displayed $279.95 on its 2026 guide page when captured; this retailer listing is not a guaranteed current price. Its surround and height effects are simulated, not discrete rear or height speakers. Crutchfield’s 2026 guide

Choose the system, not just the channel number

Standalone stereo bars

A 2.0 bar such as the Sony HT-S100F keeps the setup compact and avoids a separate subwoofer. That can be a good trade when space, simple placement, or limited bass is preferable. A standalone bar may have virtual processing, but that is not equivalent to having speakers physically placed behind you.

Bars with a subwoofer

A 2.1 arrangement adds a subwoofer for lower-frequency effects and music. Check whether it is included, and whether it connects by wire or wirelessly; wireless describes the link, not the need for power. The Hisense HS2100 is one budget-oriented example, but its surround formats are downmixed to stereo according to RTINGS.

Systems with rear or height speakers

Discrete satellites can place sound behind the listener more directly than a bar alone. A 5.1 system such as the Hisense HS5100 includes discrete satellites and a center channel; the Hisense AX5140Q adds up-firing drivers in a 5.1.4 configuration. The room, speaker placement, content, and TV connection still affect what you hear.

Do not treat a channel count or an Atmos badge as a promise of a particular effect. Ask whether the system has discrete speakers for that channel, whether it simulates or downmixes the format, and whether the TV can send the relevant audio. For example, RTINGS says Atmos is downmixed on the TCL S45H, while it describes the AX5140Q’s up-firing drivers as helping with height effects in supported material.

ULTIMEA 5.1CH Surround Sound Bar System with Dolby Atmos, Poseidon M60 | VoiceMX, BassMX, APP, 300W Soundbar for Smart TV, Surround Sound System for TV, with Subwoofer, Bluetooth 5.4
  • Simplified 5.1ch Dolby Atmos Setup: Enjoy immersive 4D sound with real Dolby Atmos and 5.1-channel audio. Five built-in speakers, including two side-firing drivers, create wide surround without rear speakers. Precision DSP ensures <0.5 ms latency for smooth, theater-like sound. Setup takes less than 1 minute.
  • Voice Clarity Enhancement: VoiceMX technology uses advanced DSP algorithms to isolate and enhance vocal frequencies in real time. Dialogue remains crisp and easy to follow by separating speech from background effects and music, even at low volumes or during intense scenes.
  • 300W Output with 6-Driver System: Featuring five precision-tuned full-range drivers and a dedicated wired wooden subwoofer, the system delivers up to 300W of peak power for bold, room-filling sound. With a frequency response of 45 Hz–18 kHz and a maximum SPL of 99 dB, it reproduces everything from subtle nuances to explosive cinematic effects.
  • 18 mm High-Excursion Driver: Powered by BassMX technology, the wired wooden subwoofer features a 18 mm high-excursion driver, a 5.3L tuned cabinet, and a high-density magnetic circuit. This design delivers deeper, tighter bass with greater air displacement and enhanced low-frequency performance—bringing more realism to every scene.
  • HDMI eARC for True Dolby Atmos: HDMI eARC supports up to 37 Mbps of bandwidth, unlocking the full potential of lossless Dolby Atmos 5.1-channel audio. Compared to standard ARC, eARC delivers richer surround effects and greater detail. CEC integration allows the TV and soundbar to work together with unified control.

Check TV connections before choosing

Read the port labels on both devices and consult their manuals. ARC, eARC, optical, and HDMI input/passthrough are different capabilities; a bar having one does not mean it has the others. Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are also not substitutes for a wired TV audio connection in every setup.

  • HDMI ARC or eARC: Confirm which port the TV and bar provide and whether the TV is configured to send audio through it. Do not assume eARC is present just because a product has HDMI.
  • Optical: Check that both devices have compatible optical ports and that the TV’s audio output format is supported by the bar.
  • HDMI input or passthrough: This is separate from ARC/eARC. Verify it if you plan to connect a source device through the soundbar.
  • Audio format: A connection may carry a signal that the bar handles by downmixing rather than reproducing discrete surround. RTINGS describes ARC and optical on the HS2100 and HT-S100F, but their format handling differs. RTINGS’ under-$100 guide and under-$200 guide

Never assume a bar works with every TV: verify the TV’s output, soundbar’s input, supported formats, and the TV’s audio settings. The cited buying guides are not a substitute for the model-specific manuals.

Measure the space and plan placement

Measure the bar’s width and height against the shelf, TV stand, or wall space, and check clearance beneath the screen. Leave the speaker unobstructed. A bar that covers the picture or the television’s infrared remote sensor can create an avoidable problem. If the subwoofer is separate, account for its footprint and a practical place near power.

Tom’s Guide recommends placing a soundbar centrally in relation to the screen, with as much open space around it as practical; positioning it behind the TV or too far inside a cabinet can interfere with sound projection. Follow the manufacturer’s installation instructions for required clearances or mounting. Tom’s Guide soundbar buying advice

Set a price ceiling and verify the listing

Decide on a maximum total spend in your own currency before comparing models. “Under $100” and “under $200” are useful filters, not stable guarantees: the HS2100 may be just over $100, the HT-S100F’s price fluctuates, and the Roku Streambar is described as fluctuating around $100. Regional offers should not be mixed; What Hi-Fi?’s Creative Stage Pro price reference was a UK Amazon offer, while Crutchfield’s Yamaha price was a retailer-page observation.
