Oura’s documented alerts focus on battery, activity, bedtime and insights. Availability varies by device, region, software, ring generation and membership.
Which alerts do Apple Watch and Oura provide?
Apple Watch and Oura cover different needs. Apple Watch offers heart-health notifications and overnight Vitals alerts; Oura’s app offers device, activity and routine notifications. Use the settings that match what you want to know, rather than turning on every available alert.

Which Apple Watch health notifications should you turn on?
High- and low-heart-rate notifications
Consider enabling these if you want to be alerted when your heart rate crosses a threshold you set. Apple lets you choose the thresholds in Heart settings. The alerts are informational; what is appropriate depends on your circumstances, and a notification is not a diagnosis.
Irregular-rhythm notifications
If the feature is available to you and you want occasional alerts about a possible irregular rhythm, follow the Apple Watch setup prompts. Apple Support stresses that the feature is not constantly looking for atrial fibrillation (AFib) and cannot detect every instance. Do not treat it as continuous monitoring or use the absence of an alert to rule out AFib.

Blood oxygen is not universally available. Apple’s Vitals guide identifies a U.S.-specific limitation for Apple Watch models purchased in the United States on or after January 18, 2024, with part numbers ending in LW/A. Check Apple’s current Vitals guide for applicable device and regional details.

Which Oura notifications should you turn on?
Oura documents notification categories for low battery, inactivity, activity progress, bedtime, insights and glucose. Low-battery and inactivity notifications are on by default, according to Oura. Keep activity or bedtime prompts if they help you follow your routine; turn off categories that add noise without prompting a useful action. Why might an alert not arrive on the expected device?
Apple Watch and iPhone routing
By default, Apple routes a notification to either the iPhone or Apple Watch, not both. If the iPhone is unlocked, its notification goes to the iPhone. If the iPhone is locked or asleep, it goes to the watch unless the watch is locked. To review an app’s options, open the iPhone’s Watch app and go to My Watch > Notifications; available choices depend on the app. See Apple’s notification-routing explanation.

Oura delivery checks
Oura notifications require more than an enabled in-app switch. Oura lists these prerequisites:
- The ring is being worn.
- Bluetooth is enabled.
- The Oura app is running in the background.
- Phone-level notification permission is enabled for Oura.
Low-power or power-saving mode can interfere with background updates or notification delivery. If an alert is missing, check those conditions as well as the relevant category in Oura app Settings > Notifications.

How to choose a low-noise setup
- For health awareness: Consider Apple’s heart-rate and irregular-rhythm alerts if they are available and relevant to you, and understand their limitations.
- For overnight trends: Leave Vitals notifications on if you want notice when multiple metrics depart from your typical ranges; disable them if the alerts are not useful to you.
- For Oura routines: Keep battery alerts if you want a charge reminder, and enable activity, bedtime or insight notifications only when you find them actionable.
Neither ecosystem guarantees that every alert will appear on every device or in every region. Verify the feature in your settings and consult the linked current support guidance for device-specific availability.
