For US shoppers, the right 85-inch-class 4K TV depends on the room and how you use it: the Hisense QD7 is the budget pick, the TCL QM7K is the balanced midrange option, the Hisense U75QG is best suited to gaming, and the Hisense U8QG is aimed at bright rooms. These recommendations come from a buying guide last updated September 24, 2026, not from hands-on testing by this article’s author. Prices, stock and specifications can change; confirm the exact 85-inch SKU before buying.

Best budget 85-inch 4K TV: Hisense QD7
The QD7 is the choice to investigate first if price matters more than gaming features or strong daylight performance. The guide praises its color accuracy, upscaling, Dolby Vision support and unexpectedly capable audio. Those points make it a practical fit for mixed streaming and TV viewing, especially if you do not need a high-refresh gaming display.

- Its 60Hz refresh rate is a limit for high-frame-rate gaming.
- It has four HDMI 2.0 ports, rather than HDMI 2.1 ports.
- The guide reports weaker bright-room performance and a sluggish Fire TV interface.
The guide says the QD7 has often fallen below $1,000, but that is a volatile past price observation, not a current quote or guaranteed price. Check the live price for the exact 85-inch model and seller.

Best balanced midrange option: TCL QM7K
The QM7K is the most balanced pick here if you want a high refresh rate, broad HDR-format support and Google TV without moving to the gaming-focused U75QG. The guide lists 4K resolution, a 144Hz refresh rate, Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support, and two HDMI 2.1 ports alongside two HDMI 2.0 ports. It also praises HDR brightness and color.
Where the tradeoffs show up
- Only two of its four HDMI ports are HDMI 2.1, so plan which devices need those connections.
- The guide notes reflections in bright rooms and limited viewing angles for seats off to the side.
- It describes the built-in audio as poor; consider separate audio only if stronger dialogue, bass or home-theater impact matters to you.
Best 85-inch 4K TV for gaming: Hisense U75QG
The U75QG is the gaming-oriented choice in this group. The guide lists a 165Hz refresh rate, four HDMI 2.1 ports and Google TV. The higher refresh rate may be useful to gaming-PC owners, but the guide notes that consoles top out at 120Hz; do not buy this set expecting a console to use 165Hz.
Check your setup and seating
- Match your devices to the four HDMI 2.1 inputs and confirm the features you need on the exact regional SKU.
- The guide flags a reflective screen and limited off-axis viewing, which can matter if lights or windows face the screen or viewers sit wide of center.
- Its audio is described as middling, so factor in external sound only if the TV’s speakers will not meet your needs.
Best for bright rooms: Hisense U8QG
The U8QG is recommended for brightness and glare handling, making it the option to consider when daylight and reflections are central concerns. The guide also lists three HDMI 2.1 ports and 4K 165Hz input.
There is a model-description conflict in TechRadar’s coverage: one specification block calls the U8QG OLED, while other text discusses local dimming. Do not rely on that page to establish panel technology. Check Hisense’s official listing and the manual for the exact regional model before using panel type to make a buying decision. The available comparison does not establish independently measured brightness or glare performance for this set.

How to choose an 85-inch TV for your room and devices
Match the screen to the light and seating
For a bright room or direct reflections, prioritize independently measured brightness and reflection handling when you compare full reviews. For dark-room viewing, contrast and local dimming are more relevant. If people will watch from seats well to the side, check viewing-angle performance: the QM7K and U75QG guides specifically flag off-angle limitations.
Count HDMI 2.1 ports and match refresh rate to the source
Port count matters when you connect more than one console or a gaming PC. The QM7K has two HDMI 2.1 ports, the U75QG has four, and the U8QG guide lists three. The QD7 has four HDMI 2.0 ports. Refresh-rate labels also need context: the U75QG’s 165Hz figure is more relevant to some PC setups than consoles, which the guide says top out at 120Hz.
Compare HDR formats, not just labels
The QM7K supports Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and the QD7 supports Dolby Vision. A format label describes compatibility; it does not by itself establish how bright, colorful or convincing HDR will look on a particular TV. Compare credible picture-quality assessments as well as the format list.

Choose the smart-TV platform you prefer
The QD7 uses Fire TV, which the guide describes as sluggish. The QM7K and U75QG use Google TV. Interface speed, preferred apps and account setup can affect everyday use, so check the current app availability and interface behavior for the model sold in your region.

Plan audio around what you actually need
A large screen does not guarantee strong built-in sound. The guide calls the QM7K’s audio poor, the U75QG’s middling, and the QD7’s unexpectedly capable. A soundbar is worth considering if clearer dialogue, more bass or a bigger home-theater effect is important to you; it is not an automatic requirement.

Confirm that the listing is for the 85-inch version, not a nearby size, and compare the current street price for that exact SKU. Size names and specifications can vary by region. For example, Tom’s Guide’s page calls the LG B6 its best overall pick, but specifies that it is 83 inches. It is a nearby-size alternative, not an 85-inch TV, so it does not qualify for an 85-inch-only shortlist.
Regional listings should not be treated as proof of US availability. TCL UK lists the 85-inch C6K-UK as a QD-Mini LED 4K model with 144Hz and up to 512 dimming zones. Its 85-inch Q7C-UK listing gives 144Hz, up to 2,048 zones and a manufacturer-rated 3,000-nit HDR figure. These are manufacturer claims for UK variants, not independent lab results or confirmation that the same models are sold in the US. TCL C6K UK listing · TCL Q7C UK listing.
Price and availability can shift quickly even within one country. Samsung’s US listing for the 85-inch 2026 R95H showed $6,499.99, while a Samsung UK page for an 85-inch 2026 model said “No longer available.” Those listings illustrate regional and stock volatility; they are not recommendations or like-for-like price comparisons.
