Disney+ is the main streaming destination for Star Wars movies and shows. Its Star Wars collection covers the Skywalker Saga, theatrical spin-offs, animated and live-action series, documentaries, shorts, specials and vintage titles. Availability changes by country and over time, so confirm the exact title in your local catalog before subscribing or renting. In the United States, Hulu has occasionally carried selected films for limited windows, while digital stores can be useful when you need only one movie.
Where can I watch Star Wars?
For most viewers, start with Disney+. Disney describes the service as the dedicated streaming home for Star Wars, and the official StarWars.com viewing guide sends viewers to Disney+ for its expanding collection. It is the broadest single-subscription option identified for the franchise.

The catalog is larger than the nine-film Skywalker Saga. Depending on your territory, Disney+ may include the two theatrical spin-offs, animated productions, live-action series, documentaries, short films, specials and older vintage material. The service organizes its Star Wars area into sections such as movies, timeline order, series and specials, animation, documentaries, shorts and vintage titles.

Licensing, local release schedules and regional content rules can make a title available in one country but absent in another. A movie or series can also leave or arrive without the overall Star Wars collection disappearing. Treat the catalog shown after signing in from your location as the controlling answer.

Disney+: what you can expect to find
Films
The Disney+ Star Wars area includes the Skywalker Saga and the two theatrical spin-offs when those titles are licensed in your region. The Saga runs from Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace through Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker, while the spin-offs include Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Live-action and animated series
The collection also brings together live-action series and animated stories set across different eras. The official guide is designed to show both a release sequence and a story-timeline sequence, rather than treating every production as part of one narrow film list.
Documentaries, shorts and vintage titles
If you want behind-the-scenes material, animated shorts, specials or older productions, use the dedicated categories instead of searching only for feature films. A title may appear under a collection or series page even when it is not obvious from a general search result.
How to check whether a specific title is available
- Identify your territory. Catalog rights are local. Do not rely on a friend’s list, an old article or a search result from another country.
- Open the service’s Star Wars collection while signed in. Search for the exact film or series name, including its episode number or season.
- Check the title page, not just a collection thumbnail. Confirm that the page offers playback rather than a trailer, announcement or add-to-watchlist entry.
- Check the plan and device conditions. A bundle, advertising tier or app-supported device may have different terms from a standalone subscription.
- If it is missing, check a digital storefront. Search the same title on Amazon, Apple/iTunes or Google Play and verify whether the result is a rental, a purchase or unavailable in your country.
- Confirm the date before paying. Availability and prices can change, especially around a theatrical, digital or franchise anniversary release.
Is Hulu a place to watch Star Wars?
For viewers in the United States, Hulu can be a supplementary option, not a dependable replacement for Disney+. Disney says U.S. customers may use Disney+ alone or through bundles, with Hulu and ESPN offerings available inside the Disney+ app for bundle subscribers. That statement does not mean the full Star Wars catalog is hosted on Hulu.
Rank #2
- Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga Complete Box Set
TechRadar reported that four Star Wars films had a limited Hulu window ahead of Star Wars Day in May 2026. That was a dated exception, not evidence of a permanent Hulu library. Before signing up, search Hulu for the exact movie and check the expiration or availability information shown in your account. Viewers outside the United States should not assume the same Hulu arrangement applies in their market.
Can I rent or buy individual Star Wars movies?
Yes. Tom’s Guide reported that Star Wars movies can be rented or purchased individually through Amazon, iTunes and Google Play. This approach can make sense when you want one film, when a title is temporarily absent from your subscription service, or when you prefer a permanent digital purchase subject to the store’s access rules.
Store listings are not universal. Before completing a transaction, verify:
- the exact title and edition, including whether it is a standard or extended listing;
- whether the transaction is a rental or purchase;
- the rental viewing period and any playback deadline;
- supported devices, apps and download rules;
- the currency, taxes and final price for your country; and
- whether the listing is available to your account’s territory.
A digital purchase is tied to the retailer’s account and terms; it is not the same thing as owning a physical disc or guaranteeing access if licensing rules change.
What order should I watch the Star Wars movies and shows in?
StarWars.com presents both release order and chronological order. It does not declare one mandatory choice; its guidance is, “Whichever order you choose…is the right one!” Choose based on whether you want to experience the franchise as audiences originally did or follow the in-universe timeline.
Rank #3
- The disk has English audio.
Release order
Release order follows the way the stories reached theaters and television. As a film-first route, begin with A New Hope (1977), continue through the original trilogy, then the prequel trilogy, the animated The Clone Wars film and later theatrical releases. Add the live-action and animated series around their original release dates if you want to see the franchise’s development over time.
The official release list extends through later series and films, including The Mandalorian and Grogu (2026). Because the franchise list includes many series, specials and short-form productions, use the StarWars.com guide’s full release-order list when you want every entry rather than only the major films.
Chronological order
Chronological order follows the fictional history. The official sequence starts with The Acolyte, moves through the prequel-era films and animated stories, then reaches the original trilogy, the post-Return of the Jedi series, and finally the sequel trilogy.
This route is useful if you want the political and historical consequences of earlier events to lead directly into later stories. It also places series alongside films instead of isolating the television productions in a separate list.
Important chronology caveats
- The Tales anthology series span a wide range of periods. Individual episodes do not all belong in one single point on the timeline.
- Andor and Star Wars Rebels take place concurrently in part and both lead into Rogue One. Watching one completely before the other is optional rather than a requirement imposed by the story.
- Star Wars Resistance begins before The Force Awakens and continues beyond it, so its episodes cross the sequel-trilogy era.
For a first visit, release order preserves the reveals and context that original audiences received. For a rewatch, chronological order can make the political and character arcs easier to follow. Neither choice is incorrect.

Where does The Mandalorian and Grogu fit?
Lucasfilm’s current homepage says The Mandalorian and Grogu is available digitally, on 4K Ultra HD and streaming on Disney+. Release status for a recent title can change quickly by territory and format, so check the current Disney+ title page and local digital stores before relying on that availability.
In the official viewing guide, the title appears at the end of the release-order list and in the post-original-trilogy portion of the chronological sequence. Its placement may be updated as the franchise’s timeline and release schedule develop.
Choosing the right option for your situation
You want to watch many films and series
Disney+ is the practical first check because it is the principal Star Wars streaming destination and groups films, series, animation and extras in one service. Confirm the local catalog before paying.
You want one movie tonight
Compare the exact title on Disney+ and a digital storefront. A one-off rental may be cheaper or faster than starting a recurring subscription, while a purchase may suit a film you expect to revisit.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
You already subscribe to a U.S. bundle
Search both the Disney+ Star Wars collection and the Hulu section available through your bundle. Do not assume a Hulu listing is permanent; the four-film May 2026 window shows how quickly such rights can change.
You live outside the United States
Use your country’s Disney+ catalog and local digital stores. U.S.-specific Hulu information should not be applied to your market without a local listing that confirms it.
You are watching for the first time
Use release order if you want the original theatrical experience, or chronological order if you prefer the in-universe timeline. The official guide supports both approaches and explains the crossover cases.
Quick Recap
Common mistakes to avoid
- Assuming Disney+ is identical everywhere: regional licensing makes title availability different by country.
- Treating an old list as current: streaming rights, bundle terms and recent releases change.
- Confusing a trailer with playback access: open the full title page and confirm that the episode or film can play.
- Assuming Hulu has every Star Wars film: U.S. Hulu availability has been limited and time-specific.
- Buying before checking the format: confirm rental versus purchase, resolution, device support and viewing deadlines.
- Expecting one perfect viewing order: anthology episodes and overlapping series make the timeline flexible; release and chronological lists serve different goals.
