In the United States, the original Puella Magi Madoka Magica series is listed on Hulu and reported as streaming on Crunchyroll. Japan has official subscription and rental listings for the series, the two recap films and Rebellion. A three-film international streaming release is announced for Crunchyroll on November 8, 2026, and Netflix in January 2027, but those dates and catalogs are country-specific. Walpurgisnacht Rising opened in Japan on August 28, 2026, and has a U.S. theatrical engagement announced for January 16–19, 2027; a digital release date has not been established.
Where can you watch Madoka Magica right now?
Your country determines the answer. Streaming rights are licensed title by title, so there is no single worldwide service that can be recommended for every installment. The strongest current listings cover the United States and Japan, while several international movie dates are announcements for future windows rather than guarantees that a title is already playable in your local catalog.

| United States | TV series | Hulu’s catalog lists one season with 24 episodes. Crunchyroll News also reports the series on Crunchyroll. | Check each service’s current U.S. catalog and plan requirements. |
| Japan | Series, Beginnings, Eternal and Rebellion | The official anniversary catalog lists providers separately for each installment. | Both SVOD subscriptions and TVOD rentals are listed; the provider can differ by film. |
| International (announced) | The three-film trilogy | Crunchyroll News reported a Crunchyroll date of November 8, 2026 and a Netflix window in January 2027. | Future windows reported October 9, 2026; verify local service pages before relying on them. |
| Japan | Walpurgisnacht Rising | The official film site lists a Japanese theatrical opening on August 28, 2026 and continued theater updates in October. | No digital release date is established by the cited sources. |
| United States | Walpurgisnacht Rising | Crunchyroll News reported a theatrical engagement scheduled for January 16–19, 2027. | That is a cinema window, not a streaming date. |
Service libraries can change between the date a page is indexed and the date you try to play a title. Open the local title page, confirm that the correct installment appears, and check whether the listing is included with your plan or priced as a separate rental.
How to watch the main story in the best order
1. Start with the 2011 television series
The original series is the clearest introduction to the characters, rules and central mystery. It is listed as one season of 24 episodes in the U.S. Hulu catalog. The series is also reported by Crunchyroll News as available on Crunchyroll. Use whichever service actually shows playable episodes in your country; a search result or landing page alone is not proof of current access.

2. Watch Rebellion next
Puella Magi Madoka Magica the Movie Part III: Rebellion follows the television story and is the essential next chapter for viewers who want the continuing narrative. It is not simply another version of the television finale. In Japan, the official catalog distinguishes its subscription and rental listings from those for the recap films.
3. Continue to Walpurgisnacht Rising
The official Walpurgisnacht Rising film site describes the movie as a continuation of Rebellion. That makes Rebellion a prerequisite for following the sequel’s story. The film opened in Japanese theaters on August 28, 2026. A U.S. theatrical engagement was reported for January 16–19, 2027, but the cited announcements do not establish a digital or subscription release date.
Where do the first two movies fit?
Beginnings and Eternal are recap movies covering the television story. They are alternatives to watching the series, not required additions before Rebellion if you have already watched all 24 episodes. Their edited film presentation can suit someone who prefers a pair of movies, has limited time, or wants a theatrical-style refresher. Watching both the series and the recap films is optional and repeats the same core events rather than extending the main plot.

What about Magia Record?
Magia Record is a side story in the wider franchise. It is not required to understand the original television series, Rebellion or the direct continuation represented by Walpurgisnacht Rising. Availability for that side story is not part of the service evidence summarized here, so check its own local listings rather than assuming it is bundled with the main series.
United States: current options and upcoming movies
Original series
Hulu’s U.S. catalog page lists Puella Magi Madoka Magica as one season containing 24 episodes: open the Hulu listing. Crunchyroll News also reports that Crunchyroll streams the series. Because neither listing proves that every U.S. plan includes the title indefinitely, check the playback page while signed in and look for the season and episode list.

Recap films and Rebellion
The evidence reviewed does not establish one current U.S. subscription home for Beginnings, Eternal and Rebellion. Do not infer availability from the series listing: film rights can be separate, and a service can carry one film without carrying the others. Search each film by its full title and verify whether the result is included, rented or unavailable in your state.
International trilogy announcement
On October 9, 2026, Crunchyroll News reported that the three-film trilogy was scheduled for Crunchyroll on November 8, 2026, with Netflix planned for January 2027. Those are upcoming windows relative to the October 10, 2026 check and may differ by country, language track and final scheduling. Confirm the date on the service’s U.S. page before subscribing specifically for the films: Crunchyroll News announcement.
Walpurgisnacht Rising in U.S. theaters
The same Crunchyroll News report gives a U.S. theatrical engagement of January 16–19, 2027. It does not provide a complete theater list, a home-video date or a streaming date. Theater availability can be city-specific and may be announced through local cinemas closer to the engagement, so treat the date as a planned event rather than proof that every U.S. theater will screen it.
Japan: subscription and rental listings
For Japan, the franchise’s official anniversary catalog is the most useful starting point: official Japanese streaming catalog. It separates SVOD (subscription video on demand) from TVOD (transactional video on demand, normally a rental or individual purchase) and identifies providers for each installment.
Why the Japanese page matters
- The television series, Beginnings, Eternal and Rebellion do not necessarily share the same providers.
- A title listed under SVOD may require an active subscription, while a TVOD entry may charge per viewing even if you already subscribe to another service.
- The catalog is Japan-specific; a provider named there may not operate in your country or may carry a different library outside Japan.
Use the catalog to identify a candidate service, then open that provider’s Japanese title page to confirm subtitles, audio, rental period, price and whether the listing is currently playable. The official catalog is a rights guide, not a promise that every listing remains unchanged.

Japanese theatrical status for Walpurgisnacht Rising
The official Japanese movie site lists August 28, 2026 as the opening date and displayed current theater updates in October. That confirms a theatrical release in Japan, not an immediate streaming or rental release. Wait for a separately announced digital window rather than assuming that a theater title is already available through the services on the anniversary catalog.

- Identify your storefront. Use the country selected on your streaming account, app store or television device. A VPN or a foreign search result can show a catalog you cannot legally play from your billing region.
- Search each installment separately. Try the series, Beginnings, Eternal, Rebellion and Walpurgisnacht Rising as distinct searches. Film and series licenses are often negotiated independently.
- Read the access label. Look for “included with subscription,” “rent,” “buy,” “coming soon” or a date. A page that displays artwork but only says the title is unavailable is not a current viewing option.
- Check language and edition details. Confirm Japanese audio, subtitles and any dubbed track before paying. The announced trilogy window may not launch every language at the same time.
- Recheck the date. Streaming schedules and theater engagements are volatile. Revisit the local service page on the day you plan to watch, especially for the November 8, 2026 and January 2027 announcements.
Netflix pages do not prove worldwide availability
Netflix has pages for Eternal and Rebellion, but each displays a country-availability notice. Their existence in Netflix’s global site does not mean either film can be played in every country. Check your signed-in local catalog: Eternal and Rebellion. The January 2027 trilogy announcement is likewise a scheduled window, not a guarantee that all three films will appear in every Netflix territory on the same day.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Physical option: owning Rebellion
If streaming rights are missing in your country, a physical copy can avoid catalog changes. Aniplex of America announced standard-edition Blu-ray and DVD releases for Rebellion in a January 16, 2015 release notice: read the release notice. The standard Blu-ray was described as including Japanese and English audio plus English and Spanish subtitles.
That announcement is historical. It does not verify current retailer stock, price, replacement availability or the edition sold today. Before ordering, check the disc’s region code against your player, confirm the subtitle and audio specifications on the exact listing, and distinguish a used copy from a new standard edition. A disc purchased for one region may not play in a player locked to another region.
Common mistakes and how to avoid them
Assuming one service has the whole franchise
The series, recap films and Rebellion can have different rights. Build your watch plan around the individual installment, not the service name.

Treating an announcement as a live stream
The November 8, 2026 Crunchyroll date and January 2027 Netflix window were future dates at the time reported. Before those dates, the films may show only a “coming soon” page; after them, territory or language delays can still apply.
Confusing a recap with a sequel
Beginnings and Eternal retell the television story. Rebellion advances it, and Walpurgisnacht Rising continues from Rebellion. Choosing the recap films instead of the series is a format choice, not an additional story route.
Using a page from the wrong country
A Japanese catalog entry, a U.S. Hulu page or a global Netflix title page can all be accurate while being useless for your own account. Confirm the country selector, playback button and payment region before treating a listing as available.
A practical watch plan
For a first-time viewer who can access the series, watch the 24-episode television run, then Rebellion, then Walpurgisnacht Rising when its local theater or home-release window becomes available. If you prefer films, substitute Beginnings and Eternal for the television series, and proceed to Rebellion. Use the Japanese anniversary catalog for Japan-specific subscription and rental choices, and treat the announced international dates as schedules to verify rather than permanent global availability.
