If you want to watch Carrie, first choose the year: the 1976 feature, 2002 television film, 2013 feature, and 2026 series are separate listings. In U.S. listings checked October 13, 2026, the 1976 and 2013 films appear on Prime Video with subscription, rental or purchase routes, while JustWatch shows additional services and physical-media options for the 1976 film. JustWatch has a separate provider record for the 2002 movie. Prime Video lists all eight episodes of the 2026 series as available. Catalogs change by country, so search the exact title and year in your local market before paying.

The numbers people call “ratings” are not all the same thing. IMDb scores reflect user votes; R, 16+ and TV-MA are platform or territory age labels. The figures and labels below are dated snapshots, not a guide to whether a title is suitable for a particular child.

Where to watch each Carrie adaptation

All four screen versions adapt Stephen King’s novel, but each has its own listing, format and release-era approach. A service carrying one version does not automatically carry the others.

Version Format and length U.S. availability noted in October 2026 Audience score shown Age label shown
Carrie (1976) Feature film; 1 hour 34 minutes JustWatch lists several streaming services, rental or purchase routes and physical media. Prime Video lists subscription, rental and purchase options. 7.4/10 IMDb snapshot R on the U.S. Prime Video page
Carrie (2002) Television film Has a distinct JustWatch U.S. provider listing; do not assume the 1976 film’s services also carry it. Physical-media availability is listed separately. 5.4/10 IMDb snapshot Not stated in the cited U.S. listings
Carrie (2013) Feature film; 1 hour 35 minutes Prime Video lists subscription, rental and purchase choices, DVD/Blu-ray formats and a two-film collection. A separate U.K. JustWatch record was checked October 12, 2026. 5.8/10 IMDb snapshot 16+ on the U.S. Prime Video page
Carrie (2026) Eight-episode series Prime Video’s U.S. page says all eight episodes are available. Not stated in the cited listing TV-MA on the U.S. Prime Video page

These are U.S.-focused examples. Streaming rights, rental windows, physical stock and age labels can change without notice and may differ in another country. The safest method is to open the local listing for the exact year, then confirm whether the button says subscription, rental, purchase or an episode/season play option.

Carrie (1976)

Brian De Palma’s 1976 film is the original feature adaptation and stars Sissy Spacek. Prime Video identifies a 1-hour-34-minute runtime and an R label on its U.S. page. That page shows subscription, rental and purchase routes; JustWatch’s U.S. record adds several streaming and purchase possibilities, including physical media. If a search result simply says “Carrie,” check that it displays 1976 and the De Palma cast before selecting it.

Carrie (2002)

The 2002 version is a television film starring Angela Bettis. Its provider record is separate from those for the theatrical films. JustWatch’s U.S. listing is therefore the useful starting point, but the provider list should be opened afresh because services can change. The cited record also lists physical-media information. Neither the 1976 film’s R label nor the 2013 film’s 16+ label should be transferred to this version; the cited U.S. sources do not establish an equivalent label for the 2002 title.

Carrie (2013)

Kimberly Peirce’s feature stars Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Prime Video lists a 1-hour-35-minute runtime and offers subscription, rental and purchase routes, along with DVD/Blu-ray formats and a two-film collection. Its U.S. page displays a 16+ label and a 5.8/10 IMDb user score. The U.K. listing is maintained separately, so a U.S. result cannot be used to promise availability in Britain or elsewhere.

Carrie (2026)

Mike Flanagan’s adaptation is an eight-episode series rather than a single film. Prime Video’s official U.S. listing says all episodes are available. The page uses TV-MA, while regional pages can show different labels. Its synopsis places Carrie in a present-day public-high-school setting shaped by online bullying, social media and her telekinetic powers. Because it is episodic, it requires a different time commitment from the three earlier screen versions.

How to find the right listing in your country

  1. Search with the year. Enter “Carrie 1976,” “Carrie 2002,” “Carrie 2013” or “Carrie 2026,” rather than relying on a generic title search.
  2. Confirm the format. A feature-film runtime around 94 or 95 minutes is different from the 2002 television film and the eight-episode 2026 season.
  3. Check the provider’s transaction type. A title may be included with a subscription, offered only as a rental or purchase, or listed on DVD/Blu-ray. “Available” does not necessarily mean included at no extra charge.
  4. Verify the territory. U.S. JustWatch and Prime Video pages describe U.S. access. A U.K. JustWatch record and the British Board of Film Classification database are separate sources.
  5. Read the date and label on the live page. Catalog rights and age classifications can change; use the current local page at the moment you watch.

What the ratings actually mean

IMDb scores measure audience sentiment

The cited pages showed a 7.4/10 IMDb user rating for the 1976 film, 5.4/10 for the 2002 television film and 5.8/10 for the 2013 film in October 2026. IMDb scores are calculated from user votes and can move as new votes arrive. They are useful for seeing how users rate a title, but they do not describe violence, sexual content, language, frightening material or suitability for children. No comparable IMDb figure for the 2026 series was stated in the cited listing.

Age labels are classification signals

The R label shown for the 1976 film, the 16+ label shown for the 2013 film and TV-MA shown for the 2026 series come from the relevant service pages in the U.S. examples. They are not one worldwide scale. The 2002 label was not established by the cited U.S. pages. A platform can also display a regional label supplied by a national classification authority, so the same release may carry different wording elsewhere.

Why the United Kingdom may look different

The British Board of Film Classification maintains its own records for Carrie releases and formats. A BBFC record is a U.K. classification source, not an IMDb audience score and not proof that a title is currently streaming. If you are in the U.K., use the local service listing for availability and the BBFC record for the classification attached to that release or format.

Which Carrie should you watch first?

Choose the 1976 film for the original feature adaptation

Start with the 1976 film if you want the first major screen version, a self-contained feature and Sissy Spacek’s performance. Its broad U.S. availability and physical-media listings also make it the version most likely to be found through more than one route, although the exact services still require a current check.

Choose the 2002 film for a different television interpretation

The 2002 movie is the option for viewers who specifically want Angela Bettis’s television-film interpretation. It should be searched independently because its provider record is not shared automatically with the theatrical versions. The 5.4/10 IMDb snapshot describes user voting only; it is not a content warning or a reason to assume the film is more or less suitable for younger viewers.

Choose the 2013 film for a later feature-film interpretation

The 2013 film offers a modern feature adaptation led by Chloë Grace Moretz and Julianne Moore. Prime Video’s listing supports subscription, rental and purchase choices, plus DVD/Blu-ray and a two-film collection. Pick it when you want a roughly 95-minute film but a later reinterpretation than the 1976 original.

Choose the 2026 series for an episodic, contemporary reworking

Select the 2026 series if you prefer a story told across eight episodes and want the premise placed in a present-day environment involving high school, social media and online bullying. It is not a feature-length substitute: plan for a season rather than one sitting. The U.S. Prime Video page reports all eight episodes available, but its TV-MA label and any regional alternatives should be checked where you live.

How to use the scores and labels together

Use the two kinds of information for different decisions. An IMDb score can help you anticipate how viewers responded overall; an age label tells you which classification the service or authority attached to that release in a particular territory. Neither one replaces your own content judgment. For a family decision, read the current service description and classification details instead of choosing the highest IMDb number. For a collector or adaptation comparison, verify the year, runtime and format so you are not comparing a film with the series by mistake.

Physical editions and the novel

Physical options are particularly relevant when a streaming listing disappears. The cited records mention DVD/Blu-ray availability for the 1976 and 2013 films, and a two-film collection containing those versions on the 2013 Prime Video page. The 2002 JustWatch record also includes physical-media information. Availability and edition contents vary by market, so inspect the specific disc listing before buying.

All four screen versions derive from Stephen King’s novel. Reading the novel alongside an adaptation can clarify which elements belong to King’s source and which reflect a director’s or series creator’s choices, but the current edition, language and retailer were not established by the cited listings. Treat the book as a separate purchase decision rather than assuming a film bundle includes it.

Common mistakes when searching for Carrie

  • Assuming one service has every version: provider records are title-specific, especially for the 2002 television film.
  • Confusing audience score with age guidance: 7.4/10, 5.4/10 and 5.8/10 are user-score snapshots, not child-suitability grades.
  • Ignoring the year: identical titles can return the wrong film or the series.
  • Reading a U.S. label as universal: R, 16+ and TV-MA in U.S. pages do not establish the classification in another country.
  • Treating “available” as “included”: subscription, rental and purchase are different access routes.
  • Using an old catalog result: streaming rights and displayed ratings change, so recheck the live local page.

A practical viewing order

There is no objectively correct ranking. A neutral, format-based order is to watch the 1976 film first for the original feature adaptation, then use the 2002 or 2013 title for a second film interpretation, and finish with the 2026 series if you want an episodic contemporary reworking. You can reverse that order if the series format or a specific cast is your priority; the important step is identifying the year and checking its local availability before you start.
