There is no single streaming service with every Law & Order episode. For the original series, Hulu is the first place to check, while Peacock is the key destination for newer NBC episodes and several spin-offs. A separate free, ad-supported channel launched across several live-TV platforms with seasons 5–10 of the original series, and a DVD collection covers the original seasons 1–20 without relying on a changing streaming catalog.
Catalog rights move frequently. The service that has the season you want today may not have it when you return, so identify the exact series and season, then confirm the listing in the U.S. app or website before subscribing.

Which option is best for the episode you want?
Your best choice depends on whether you want the classic run, a current NBC episode, a spin-off, or a no-cost channel. This is the practical starting point for viewers in the United States.

First identify the exact series
“Law & Order” is often used as shorthand for a franchise with several separate catalogs. Searching only the words “Law & Order” can return the wrong show or a partial result.

The original Law & Order
The original New York courtroom-and-detective series ran through season 20. The complete original-series DVD set covers seasons 1–20. Streaming reports have historically split those seasons between services, with Hulu associated with the classic run and Peacock associated with later-numbered episodes in some catalog snapshots.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
SVU is a separate series with its own season selector and rights. Peacock’s page, checked October 11, 2026, states that season 28 premiered October 8, 2026 and that new episodes stream the next day. If your priority is the latest broadcast episode, search for the full SVU title rather than the franchise name alone.
Law & Order: Criminal Intent
Criminal Intent has a different episode list and availability from both the original series and SVU. Peacock’s March 2025 franchise guide listed all ten seasons, but that figure should be treated as a historical guide entry until you confirm the current listing.
Law & Order: Organized Crime and the revival
Organized Crime is another distinct title. The same Peacock guide listed its first four seasons in March 2025. The original brand also has a revival-era continuation, so a result labeled only by season number may not tell you which production you are opening. Read the series subtitle and year before starting a watch-through.
What Peacock is good for
Peacock is the logical first check for current NBC episodes and for viewers following several spin-offs in one place. Its SVU listing establishes a next-day pattern for new episodes: after the broadcast premiere, the episode is posted on Peacock the following day. That is more useful for current-season viewing than a service that carries only older seasons.
Rank #2
Peacock’s franchise guide published March 11, 2025 listed nine seasons under its original-series entry, identified as seasons 13–24, 26 seasons of SVU, all ten seasons of Criminal Intent, and the first four seasons of Organized Crime. Those numbers describe what the guide showed at that time; they are not a guarantee of the October 2026 catalog, and the original-series labeling spans a range that can be confusing when the revival is included in search results.
A U.S. availability directory checked October 11, 2026 reported an October 14 Peacock Premium availability date for the original series. Because that date was near the directory’s check date, its Peacock status appears to have been in transition. Treat the directory as a lead, open Peacock’s live title page, and verify the season list and plan requirement before paying.
What Hulu is good for
Hulu is the strongest place to check when you want the classic original series. A July 2025 comparison reported seasons 1–20 on Hulu, and the October 11, 2026 U.S. availability listing also included the original series on Hulu along with other viewing and purchase options.
Neither report proves that every episode remains available continuously. Rights can be divided by season, removed at renewal, or shown differently depending on the account and region. Hulu’s own help guidance tells viewers to use its library and availability resources for a specific title and the latest seasons. Search the full series name, open the show page, and expand the season menu rather than relying on a general search result.
The available evidence does not establish a current subscription price, an ad-supported-versus-ad-free requirement, or a complete episode-by-episode gap list. Those details should be read from Hulu’s current plan and title pages in the United States.
Free, ad-supported viewing
NBCUniversal announced on September 9, 2025 that a free, ad-supported Law & Order channel launched in the United States during September with seasons 5–10. The launch platforms named in the announcement were LG Channels, Pluto TV, Prime Video, The Roku Channel, Samsung TV Plus, and Xumo Play. More seasons were to be added later.

The announcement confirms the launch arrangement; it does not establish which seasons or episode rotation each platform carries in October 2026.
How to find the channel
- Open the live-TV or free-streaming guide on one of the named platforms.
- Search the guide for “Law & Order,” not just the on-demand library.
- Open the channel information page and read the current schedule, season labels, and playback restrictions.
- Check whether the platform requires a free account, a supported device, or location-specific access.
- If the schedule starts in the middle of a season, use the platform’s reminder or watchlist feature rather than assuming every episode is available on demand.
Free-channel availability is most useful when you are happy to watch a rotating selection. It is a poor substitute for a planned season-by-season marathon unless the platform also exposes the episodes on demand.
Buying the original series on DVD
For viewers who want dependable access to the classic run, Universal Pictures At Home lists Law & Order: The Complete Original Series on DVD, covering seasons 1–20. Physical ownership avoids a future streaming-rights change and preserves the original season order.
The scope matters: this set is the original series only. It does not include the 2022 revival, SVU, Criminal Intent, Organized Crime, or other spin-offs. A DVD purchase also means using a compatible disc drive or player and accepting the storage and playback limits of physical media. Universal Pictures At Home does not establish a current price or whether a particular retailer has stock, so check the seller’s live listing.

Use this process whenever a service claims to carry Law & Order:
- Write down the exact title. Specify the original series, SVU, Criminal Intent, Organized Crime, or the revival-era title.
- Open the service’s own title page. Do not rely solely on a search-engine snippet, an old article, or a third-party availability page.
- Expand the season selector. Confirm the first and last season numbers shown and look for missing seasons between them.
- Open one episode from the season you need. This catches listings that show a season heading but have unavailable individual episodes.
- Read the plan label. Note whether the episode requires a paid tier, a live-TV package, a free account, or an add-on.
- Check the date and location. The evidence cited here is U.S.-specific, and catalogs can differ by country. A title page viewed after a rights change may not match an older comparison.
- Test playback before committing. If you are starting a long marathon, play an episode and confirm subtitles, audio options, and device support on the equipment you will use.
Best paths for common viewing goals
You want the early detectives and courtroom episodes
Check Hulu first for the original series, then compare the season menu with the 1–20 scope of the DVD collection. If Hulu is missing a season or you want a permanent backup, the DVD set is the more predictable option for the classic run.
You want the newest SVU episode
Go directly to Peacock’s SVU page. The October 2026 listing says season 28 began October 8 and that new episodes arrive the next day. Verify the exact plan shown for your account before subscribing.
You want to watch without adding a paid subscription
Look for the dedicated free channel in the live guides on Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, LG Channels, Prime Video, Samsung TV Plus, or Xumo Play. Confirm the current rotation; the announced launch lineup of seasons 5–10 may have changed.

Common problems and fixes
The service shows the show but not your season
Open the season selector and check for a split catalog. Historical comparisons found Hulu associated with the original seasons 1–20 and Peacock with legacy episodes beginning at season 13, but those boundaries are not current guarantees. If the season is absent, check the other service or the DVD collection rather than assuming the episode is hidden.
A third-party listing disagrees with the app
Use the app’s own title page as the final authority. The October 11, 2026 directory entry that mentioned an October 14 Peacock Premium date illustrates why a near-term catalog transition can make published listings stale within days.
You found a live channel but cannot start at episode one
That is normal for a linear, ad-supported feed. Read the schedule, set a reminder, and look for an on-demand version. If the platform offers only scheduled playback, use a service with a season selector or the DVD set for ordered viewing.

You are outside the United States
The comparisons and channel announcement summarized here concern U.S. availability. Do not infer that Hulu, Peacock, the free channel, or the DVD distribution has the same rights in another country; check the local service catalog and regional physical-media release.
Bottom line
Start with Hulu for the original series, Peacock for current SVU and other newer franchise viewing, and the announced free channel when scheduled, ad-supported episodes are acceptable. For a stable copy of the original seasons 1–20, the DVD collection is the only option in this comparison that does not depend on a changing streaming license. In every case, confirm the exact series, season, plan, and U.S. availability on the live title page before you pay or plan a marathon.
