Because a premiere date is not the same thing as a permanent catalogue listing, open the current title page in your account to confirm which season 3 episodes are available when you watch.

How to watch in the United States
1. Open HBO Max and search for the exact title
Use the HBO Max app or website and search separately for Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. The U.S. help page identifies the first show’s complete eight-season run and the second show’s first two seasons. Selecting a series page rather than relying on a search-engine result lets you see the episodes and seasons currently enabled for your account.

2. Sign in through your subscription or provider
If you subscribe directly, sign in with the account that holds your HBO Max plan. Existing HBO subscribers may already have HBO Max access, potentially at no extra charge, depending on the provider and the terms of that subscription. Choose the provider-sign-in option in HBO Max and use the credentials supplied by that provider; do not assume that every legacy HBO package has identical entitlement.

3. Check the season selector before starting
For Game of Thrones, the U.S. listing covers seasons 1 through 8. For House of the Dragon, the cited help page explicitly lists seasons 1 and 2. HBO Max’s announcement places the season 3 premiere on June 21, 2026. If season 3 is not shown in your account, check that you are in the United States, that the app is updated, and that the title page is loading the current catalogue rather than an offline cache.
4. Confirm your playback plan and hardware
HBO Max says House of the Dragon is available in 4K UHD, HDR10 or Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos on select devices with the Premium plan. Those formats require compatible hardware, an appropriate television or display, an audio system that supports the format, and a plan that includes the feature. The support page’s plan naming and feature rules should be checked at the time of subscription because streaming tiers and device lists can change.

Watching while traveling
HBO Max warns that catalogue availability is tied to your physical location. A subscriber who normally sees both series in the United States may see a different set of titles after entering another country, even while using the same account. This is why a U.S. subscription is not a worldwide guarantee.
If you know you will lose connectivity, download available episodes before leaving. HBO Max’s availability guidance says downloaded titles can still be played while traveling, subject to the app’s download rules and expiration limits. Test a download before departure, keep the app signed in, and leave enough device storage for the episodes you want. A download does not expand the catalogue or create rights to titles that were never downloaded.
India: what JioHotstar’s announcement confirms
For India, an April 2026 JioStar and Warner Bros. Discovery announcement describes an HBO Max hub inside JioHotstar’s existing service. It specifically names Game of Thrones among the available titles and says the add-on started at ₹49 per month. That is an announcement price, not a permanent nationwide price: taxes, billing terms, introductory conditions, and package contents can change.
The announcement does not establish that House of the Dragon is currently in the Indian HBO Max hub. Search the live JioHotstar catalogue or read the current package description before paying if that series is your reason for subscribing. Do not infer availability of one show from the confirmed listing of the other.

There is no reliable universal answer based only on the service name. HBO Max’s own support guidance says catalogue results can change when a subscriber’s location changes and that additional regions may be added. Follow this process for a country not covered by the U.S. or India information above:
- Open the official HBO Max service page or app for the country where you will watch.
- Search for both exact titles, not just “HBO” or “Game of Thrones.” Record the seasons and episodes displayed.
- Read the local plan description for simultaneous streams, downloads, resolution, and audio support.
- Check whether access is direct or supplied through a local television, mobile, or broadband provider.
- Confirm the currency, recurring price, taxes, cancellation rules, and any introductory period before subscribing.
If one title is missing, that is a catalogue-rights issue, not necessarily an account error. Contact local support or the provider shown on the billing page. A search result from another country, an old article, or a friend’s account cannot prove current local availability.

Do you need a separate service for the two shows?
In the United States, the cited HBO Max listing puts both named series in one service, so a viewer does not need two subscriptions solely to watch the shows. The practical question is whether your existing HBO access activates HBO Max and whether your chosen plan includes the picture, sound, and download features you want.
Outside the United States, the answer can differ. Local licensing may place the shows in different services, make only one available, or delay a season. Since the available evidence does not provide a complete international comparison, identify your country before choosing a second subscription.
Streaming versus the source book and merchandise
Fire & Blood
George R. R. Martin’s Fire & Blood is the related physical book that HBO identifies as the basis for House of the Dragon. Buying or borrowing it is an optional reading experience; it does not provide streaming access to the television series. The book presents the Targaryen history in a different format, so it should be treated as background material rather than a substitute for the episodes.

HBO’s official shop destination points fans toward Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon merchandise. Merchandise is separate from viewing access, and stock, delivery regions, and prices depend on the shop. It will not unlock either series.
Common problems and fixes
The show appears in search but will not play
