What order should you watch Naruto in?
- Watch Naruto. VIZ lists the original anime at 220 episodes.
- Continue with Naruto Shippuden. The official Naruto site describes it as taking place after Naruto returns from training with Jiraiya, so it follows the original series rather than replacing it.
- Decide whether to continue with Boruto. It is a follow-on series about the next generation and is optional for completing the main Naruto and Shippuden story.
You can watch every episode for the full anime experience, or consult a current episode-by-episode filler guide if you want a shorter route. Where should you start with the Naruto manga?
Begin with Naruto volume 1 and continue in publication order through the completed main manga. VIZ says the manga debuted in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1999 and concluded in late 2014. This gives you the story in its direct publication sequence without needing to switch between anime episodes and manga chapters.

Do you need to watch the Naruto movies?
No movie is needed to establish the main-series starting order. The official sources confirm that films exist, but they do not establish a complete chronology or which films are essential. Treat them as optional extras, and check a dedicated chronology before placing a particular film between episodes or series.
