How to start playing in a browser
- Open one of the browser-game sites above in your browser. Their descriptions say an app installation is not required.
- Choose a difficulty or mode if the site offers one. Play Minesweeper Online lists Beginner, Intermediate, Expert, Daily Challenge, and Custom Board.
- Reveal a cell to start. On Play Minesweeper Online, desktop players left-click to reveal and right-click to flag; on mobile, tap to reveal and long-press to flag. Other implementations may use different controls.
How Minesweeper works
Each number in a revealed cell tells you how many mines touch that cell, including diagonal neighbors. Use the number to reason about the covered cells around it: some may be mines, while others must be safe. You can mark suspected mines with flags to keep track of your deductions.

According to the Minesweeper Online rules, you win by revealing every non-mine cell; flagging every mine is not required. The same instructions describe chording: when a revealed number has the correct number of flags around it, open the adjacent covered cells together. Use this only when your flags are accurate, because an incorrect flag count can expose a mine.

Microsoft Minesweeper is a separate installed game, so it does not meet a strict no-download requirement. Its Xbox store listing identifies Xbox Game Studios and labels the game Free+ with in-game purchases.
