For a straightforward browser-based game with no installation, start with Arkadium’s Mahjongg Solitaire. Its page describes the game as browser-based and says no download is required. If you want alternatives, Mahjong.com offers an untimed game with 366 levels and a separate Solitaire Mahjong game with a 15-minute limit.

What Mahjong Solitaire is—and how a round works
Mahjong Solitaire is a single-player matching puzzle, not the traditional four-player game of Chinese Mahjong. You clear a board by removing matching pairs of tiles that are free to play. In Arkadium’s original game, the layout uses 144 face-up tiles, according to its player support guide.

A tile is free when it is not covered and at least one of its sides is open. Select a matching pair of free tiles to remove them. Clearing tiles can uncover others and create new possible moves; a matching tile that is covered or blocked on both sides cannot be selected yet.
