Phantom Quartz is found around the pond-facing roots of Gnarly Bark and in the connected cave—not in a dedicated farming area inside the Abyss. Bring a Tier 3 Omni-Hammer, then follow the route from the Paper Boat and Ranger Outpost: Gnarly Bark toward the flooded tunnel. The dry entrance area offers an initial place to search; deeper deposits are reported along both cave banks and underwater.
Where to look for Phantom Quartz
The Into the Abyss update adds an underwater setting and deeper dives that call for preparation, but its official overview does not map Phantom Quartz deposits. The location details here come from unofficial guides, so treat them as route directions rather than an official map guarantee. The official Into the Abyss overview describes the update’s underwater focus.

Search the pond-facing side of Gnarly Bark and its connected cave system. One guide identifies the Paper Boat and Ranger Outpost: Gnarly Bark as landmarks near an entrance beneath the tree roots. From there, the route goes through a flooded tunnel to an interior bank where the first crystal cluster is reported. More deposits are described deeper inside, including on cave banks and underwater. The location guide provides the more detailed route; its reported locations may vary with the game build.

- Tier 3 Omni-Hammer: Guides specify this tool for mining Phantom Quartz. The route guide and the item guide both name it.
- Light: A light source is sensible for the dark cave sections described by the route guide.
- Breathing capacity: The route includes flooded passages and underwater deposits, so plan for the time you will spend submerged.
- Combat readiness: Guides report hostile creatures near deposits. Encounters are not a guaranteed spawn list for every game build, but do not assume the cave is safe.
The official update overview also advises preparation for deeper dives. It establishes the underwater context, while the cave route and deposit details remain guide-reported.

How Phantom Quartz fits into crafting progression
Phantom Quartz is a starting material in a chain that leads to Quartz Glass, which is useful for diving gear and underwater building. The item guide describes this sequence: mine a shard with the Tier 3 Omni-Hammer, analyze it to unlock the Quern and Crushed Quartz, process the material, then analyze Crushed Quartz to unlock Fire Brick. Analyzing Fire Brick unlocks the Kiln and Quartz Glass recipe. Quartz Glass is made in the Kiln with Crushed Quartz and Horsetail Stem. The item and recipe guide covers the progression chain.
Recipe quantities and station costs can change with updates. Check the current in-game recipe before committing a large stock of materials, and consider keeping some mined quartz for this progression rather than treating every shard as spare.

Choose how far to explore
The reviewed guides establish one connected search area, not competing Phantom Quartz farm locations or measured yields for different routes. If you are not prepared for the flooded interior, search the initial dry section first. Exploring farther may expose you to additional reported deposits, but also means more time in dark, submerged cave sections and possible combat. No source establishes a dependable haul for either approach.
