Use the exchange that published the trade. For National Stock Exchange (NSE) records, open the official Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives page, choose a symbol and date range, and download the CSV when needed. NSE also posts daily files through its All Reports page. For Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the official route is Home → Markets → Equity → Historical Data → Bulk Deals / Block Deals. Check both exchanges if you need complete coverage because each maintains its own reports.
Which official page should you use?
India’s public bulk- and block-deal disclosures are exchange-specific. A trade reported on NSE appears in NSE’s reports; a trade reported on BSE appears in BSE’s reports. There is no single exchange page that should be assumed to contain every transaction across both venues.

Bulk deals and block deals are different disclosures
Bulk-deal threshold
A bulk-deal disclosure is triggered when the total quantity bought or sold in a scrip is more than 0.5% of the company’s listed equity shares. The rule, reproduced in an NSE circular from SEBI’s 2004 framework, requires brokers to report the scrip, client name, quantity and traded price. Exchanges disseminate that information to the public after market hours on the same day. See the NSE disclosure circular and BSE’s 29 April 2025 Equity Segment Master Circular.

The 0.5% test concerns the company’s listed-equity share count and the aggregate quantity covered by the reporting rule. It is not a rupee-value test, and it is not the same as the minimum order size for a block-trading window.
Block-deal disclosure
Block deals are reported as a separate category. Use the exchange’s block-deal report rather than treating every large transaction as a bulk deal. The public record shows transaction details; it does not by itself explain whether the client was rebalancing, exiting, investing strategically or meeting another objective.
Execution rules are not archive locations
Block-window parameters describe how an order may be executed. They do not tell you where the completed trade is publicly disclosed. NSE changed its block-trading-session parameters in a circular dated 20 November 2025: the minimum order size rose from ₹10 crore to ₹25 crore, and the permitted price range changed from ±1% to up to ±3% of the applicable reference price, subject to surveillance requirements and the normal-market price band. How to find records on NSE
Use the archive search
- Open NSE’s Bulk Deals/ Block Deals/ Short Selling Archives page.
- Select the required report category: bulk deals or block deals. Do not leave the category assumption implicit when documenting a result.
- Enter the security symbol if you are researching one company. If you are surveying the market, leave the symbol broad enough to return all available records.
- Set the trade-date or date-range controls. Use the trade date shown by the report, not the date on which you happened to download it.
- Run the search and review the on-page results.
- Download the CSV when you need to filter, sort, preserve an audit copy or compare several dates.
The archive is the most direct NSE route for a targeted lookup because it combines the symbol and date controls with the downloadable file. If the page does not return the expected row, verify the symbol spelling, exchange-listed security and date range before concluding that no disclosure exists.
Use daily files for market-wide checks
For a particular trading day, open NSE’s All Reports page and look for the separately labelled “Bulk Deals (csv)” and “Block Deals (csv)” files. Download both when your question covers both categories. A bulk-deal file will not substitute for the block-deal file.

Use the historical-report entry point when navigating older material
NSE’s Daily Market Reports – Capital Market page provides another official entry point to historical reports and links to the same family of bulk/block archives. This is useful when you begin from NSE’s broader capital-market reporting area rather than from the dedicated deal page.
Do not confuse public archives with member reporting
NSE circulars also describe Extranet reporting and correction workflows for members. Those are broker or exchange-member operational processes, not investor-facing pages for searching completed disclosures. The public archive and daily report files are the appropriate sources for research.

How to find records on BSE
Follow BSE’s documented menu path
- Open the BSE website.
- Choose Markets.
- Select Equity.
- Open Historical Data.
- Choose Bulk Deals or Block Deals, depending on the record you need.
This route is specified in BSE’s official FAQ: FAQ: Block deal. The BSE Equity Segment Master Circular also identifies the bulk-deal page and the disclosure threshold.
If the menu looks different
Exchange websites periodically revise navigation, labels and page layouts. Search within BSE for “bulk deals” or “block deals,” then confirm that the page is an official BSE domain and that the result identifies the relevant trade date and category. Do not replace a missing BSE result with an NSE result; they are separate venue records.
Choosing the right search for your question

How to read and preserve a disclosure
Record the identifying fields
At minimum, save the exchange, report category, trade date, security symbol, client name, quantity and traded price. Those are the core fields identified in the bulk-deal disclosure rule. Keep the original CSV or downloaded report alongside any spreadsheet you create so that later calculations can be traced to the exchange file.

Keep venue and category in every note
A note that says only “a block deal occurred” is incomplete. Write, for example, “NSE block-deal report, trade date [date shown by the file]” or “BSE bulk-deal historical record.” This prevents an NSE row from being mistaken for a BSE row and prevents bulk and block files from being merged without labels.

The 0.5% figure applies to the total quantity relative to listed equity shares for the bulk-deal disclosure rule. It does not tell you that the buyer owns 0.5%, that the trade was placed in a block window, or that the transaction represents a change in management control. The report supplies transaction facts, not the client’s motive or a forecast of the share price.
A reliable two-exchange workflow
- Identify the company’s listed symbols and whether it trades on NSE, BSE or both.
- Define the category: bulk, block or both.
- Define the exact trade-date range before opening the archive.
- Search NSE’s archive or daily files and save the relevant CSV.
- Search BSE’s historical-data route for the same category and dates.
- Compare rows only after normalising dates, symbols, quantities and price units; retain each exchange label.
- Check the applicable exchange circular if your question concerns a reporting rule or block-window execution parameter rather than a historical trade.
- When publishing or sharing the result, link directly to the official exchange page and state the venue, category and trade date.
Common mistakes and fixes
Checking only one exchange
Problem: You search NSE and report that no deal occurred, although the transaction was disclosed on BSE.
Fix: Repeat the same category and date search on the other exchange whenever the company is listed or traded there.
Searching the wrong category
Problem: You open a bulk-deal CSV while looking for a block deal.

Fix: Select the category explicitly and download both files when the assignment covers both types.
Using the block-window minimum as a bulk threshold
Problem: You treat ₹25 crore as the amount required for a bulk-deal disclosure.
Fix: Keep the rules separate: bulk disclosure uses the more-than-0.5%-of-listed-equity criterion, while ₹25 crore and up-to-±3% are NSE block-window parameters effective from 8 December 2025.
Inferring intent from a client name
Problem: You describe a disclosed buyer as bullish, exiting or taking control without supporting evidence.

Relying on an undated screenshot
Problem: A screenshot omits the report category, trade date or exchange.
Fix: Preserve the CSV or official report URL and record the filters used. Include the trade date shown in the source, not just the download date.
What the official disclosure can—and cannot—tell you
These reports are useful for verifying that a qualifying transaction was reported, identifying the named client, measuring the disclosed quantity and recording the traded price. They can help build a time series of reported activity when you collect the same fields consistently from both venues.
