For quick browsing and downloads, GIFDB says you can search and save GIFs without signing up. For uploading and distributing your own GIFs or stickers, GIPHY documents the clearest workflow. Tenor still offers consumer search through Tenor.com and its GIF Keyboard, but its developer API was sunset on June 30, 2026. GIFimage could not be reliably verified, so its features and policies cannot be compared here.

Which GIF site should you use?

Service Best-supported use What is established What remains unclear
GIFDB Browsing, searching, downloading, and sharing GIFs on its website GIFDB says no account is required. Its desktop download guidance is to right-click an image and choose “Save Image As.” GIFDB These are site-published descriptions, not independent usability tests.
GIFimage Not established No reliable official source was identified to substantiate current features. Its identity, availability, search, upload and download behavior, privacy, and licensing are unverified.
GIPHY Finding, uploading, and distributing GIFs and stickers Uploading requires signing in. Uploaders can add tags and a source URL, and choose public or private visibility. GIPHY upload guidance Search reach is not guaranteed for every upload; upgraded channel content is eligible for GIPHY search and API distribution. GIPHY search guidance
Tenor Consumer GIF search and keyboard use Google says Tenor remains available at Tenor.com and through its Android and iOS GIF Keyboard, along with listed Google integrations. Google Tenor Help The Tenor developer API is no longer available; this does not by itself establish the status of every consumer app integration.

Use GIFDB for quick browser searches and saves

GIFDB is the most straightforward fit in the available evidence if you want to search its site, download an existing GIF, or share one without creating an account. On desktop, its published guidance is to right-click the GIF and select “Save Image As.” The no-signup and download details come from GIFDB itself, rather than independent testing. GIFDB

Use GIPHY to upload and distribute your own content

GIPHY documents an upload workflow that requires a signed-in account. Uploaders can add tags and a source URL, then set content visibility to public or private. Those controls are useful if you are publishing original work and want to provide source attribution or limit visibility. GIPHY’s upload instructions

GIPHY says its search is available on GIPHY.com and in several third-party apps. But having an account or uploading a file does not ensure that it will appear throughout that ecosystem: GIPHY says upgraded channel content is eligible for search and API distribution. Tenor still serves consumers, but its API has ended

Google’s Tenor Help page says people can continue to use Tenor.com and the Android or iOS GIF Keyboard, as well as the Google integrations it lists. Availability inside other apps depends on each app’s integration, so check the specific app rather than assuming it uses Tenor. Google Tenor Help

For developers, the status is different: Google says the Tenor API was sunset on June 30, 2026. New API key sign-ups and integrations had stopped on January 13, 2026. Those dates have passed, so Tenor API instructions should not be treated as a currently available path for building a new integration. Google’s API sunset notice

Why Tenor results can differ between apps

Tenor says its search recommendations use search words, language, and location. Partner apps can also apply settings for content type, appropriateness rating, file type, shape, and location. As a result, the same search can produce different results or filters depending on where you search. Google Tenor Help on recommendations

GIFimage cannot yet be compared reliably

The available evidence did not identify an official or otherwise reliable source that establishes which GIFimage service is meant or what it currently offers. Its search and download functions, upload support, privacy practices, licensing, and availability are therefore unknown. That absence of verification is not proof that the service is unavailable or unsafe; it means a factual feature comparison would be speculative.

Choose based on what you need to do

  • Find and save a GIF in a browser: GIFDB’s own description supports searching and downloading without signup.
  • Upload and share your own GIF or sticker: GIPHY documents signing in, adding tags and a source URL, and selecting public or private visibility.
  • Search from a keyboard or consumer service: Tenor remains an option through the channels Google lists; check whether your specific app supports it.
  • Build a new Tenor-powered integration: The developer API was sunset on June 30, 2026, so it is not a current option.
  • Evaluate GIFimage: Verify the exact service and its current terms directly before relying on claims about its features or policies.

Tenor’s scale claims are not a quality comparison

Google’s Tenor API quickstart says the service handles over 300 million searches per day and supports more than 45 languages. The page does not state a year for the search-volume figure, and both figures are vendor-published claims, not independent measurements or head-to-head tests of search quality. Its API operating instructions are superseded by Google’s sunset notice. Google for Developers: Tenor API quickstart
