But “free” does not guarantee commercial rights, a particular Photoshop version, or even a layered PSD. The examples below show what to check—and what is actually established about each option—before you build a design around it.
Free Photoshop T-shirt mockups with verified details
The available product information supports a small set of examples, not a verified list of 20 current downloads. These options are useful starting points, but confirm the file, license, and download terms on the source page before using an asset in a project.

How to choose a free blank T-shirt mockup PSD
Start with what the mockup must communicate: the fit, angle, and setting your audience needs to see. A simple white-shirt image may suit a print preview; a multi-view template can show front and back placement. The cited examples do not establish every scene or garment style, so inspect the preview and file details rather than assuming a collection includes a specific fit or view.
- Confirm the file format. If you need editable Photoshop layers, look for a PSD and verify that the download actually includes it. A preview image or browser-based design template is not the same thing.
- Check the artwork workflow. Smart Objects commonly let you replace placeholder artwork while retaining the mockup’s presentation. Look for instructions and confirm the file opens with the layers intact.
- Match resolution to the job. Compare the stated pixel dimensions with the size and use of your final image. Dimensions alone do not establish print suitability or image quality.
- Check color and background controls. Determine whether the shirt color, background, shadows, and scene can be changed in the PSD. A preview may show options that are not all included in the free file.
- Verify Photoshop compatibility. Minimum versions vary: MediaLoot states CS5 or newer, while another creator cited in the source set specifies CC 2020 or later. Check the individual download page for its requirement.
- Read the license before client or commercial work. Look specifically for commercial-use permission, attribution, modification, redistribution, and any limits on client projects.
What “free” means for mockup licenses
The examples have materially different terms. MediaLoot allows personal and commercial use with attribution, while prohibiting redistribution of the set for download elsewhere. NATI’s free version is limited to noncommercial use under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; commercial use requires contacting the creator or purchasing the full version. MockupRiver states that its license allows personal and commercial projects without attribution, but its individual item terms should still be checked.
#1 Best Overall
These are the publishers’ stated terms, not a blanket rule for other downloads. A free download is not automatically public domain, unrestricted for commercial use, or safe to rehost. Save or review the current license text when you download, especially if the mockup will appear in paid client work.
Using Adobe’s own Photoshop mockup workflow
Adobe’s Photoshop tutorial describes selecting and downloading a “Sweatshirt and Tshirt Mockups” template through the New Document flow. It then demonstrates applying a Pattern adjustment layer within the sweatshirt group. This is useful workflow guidance, but it does not guarantee that the same template is currently available to every Photoshop user. Check the New Document experience in your own installation.

For a file you already have, open the PSD and inspect its layer groups. If artwork sits in a Smart Object, open that object, place or replace the design, save the Smart Object, and return to the mockup to see the update. Follow the file creator’s instructions where available; layer names and organization vary.

Adobe Express T-shirt templates are an online design resource, including blank T-shirt templates. They should not be treated as layered Photoshop mockup PSDs unless the specific asset is confirmed to provide that file format. If your workflow depends on Smart Objects or editable PSD layers, verify the download format before choosing a template.

- Check the Photoshop minimum version, pixel dimensions, and whether Smart Objects or editable color layers are included.
- Read the current license for commercial use, attribution, client work, modification, and redistribution.
