If you mean the 2024 movie music, buy or stream Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture), a Tom Holkenborg album listed by Paramount Music with destinations for Apple Music, Amazon Music and Qobuz. Apple Music dates the release to December 20, 2024 and lists 33 songs. If you mean the classic game, you are looking for a game release that includes Sonic 3 & Knuckles, not the film album.
The two products share a title but are unrelated releases. Use the guide below to identify the right format, confirm regional availability and avoid buying a game when you wanted movie music—or expecting a game soundtrack to be the film score.

First, decide which “Sonic 3” you want
“Sonic the Hedgehog 3 soundtrack” can describe two different things:
- The 2024 film score: Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture), credited to composer Tom Holkenborg.
- The 1994 video game: Sonic the Hedgehog 3, a Sega release whose original Japanese launch date was May 27, 1994.
The film album is digital music distributed through music services. The game is interactive software, and the relevant modern collection is Sonic Origins Plus, whose Sega manual confirms that it includes Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Buying one does not provide the other.

Where to buy or stream the 2024 film score
Use Paramount Music’s official album listing
Paramount Music’s album page is the safest starting point because it identifies the release and links to Apple Music, Amazon Music and Qobuz. Those links are official destinations, but they are not a guarantee that every service, format or purchase option works in every country. Catalog access can depend on your territory, account, payment method and licensing arrangements.
- Open the Paramount Music listing for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture).
- Select the music service you already use—Apple Music, Amazon Music or Qobuz.
- On the destination page, confirm that the artist or composer information identifies Tom Holkenborg and that the title says Music from the Motion Picture.
- Check whether the service offers streaming, a digital purchase, or both in your region. The available action can differ between accounts and countries.
- Before paying, verify that the release date and song count match the album you intend to get.
Album facts to verify before checkout
| Detail | What the published metadata says | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Title | Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture) | Separates the film score from the 1994 game. |
| Composer credit | Tom Holkenborg | Helps you identify the official movie release when search results show similarly named playlists. |
| Release date | December 20, 2024 (Apple Music listing) | Confirms that you are viewing the 2024 film album rather than older game music. |
| Track count | 33 songs (Apple Music, 2024) | A useful check against incomplete playlists or unrelated soundtrack pages. |
| Label and rights line | © 2024 Paramount Pictures, under exclusive license to Milan Records, a label of Sony Music Entertainment (Apple Music metadata) | Provides an additional catalog identifier when several services return similar results. |
What is on the film album?
Apple Music lists 33 songs. The Paramount track listing includes “Live And Learn (Junkie XL version),” so do not assume that every search result containing “Live And Learn” is a separate Sonic game soundtrack. The version name is part of the film album’s listed contents.
Services may display the songs in a different interface, group them under an album page, or show availability restrictions. If a playlist has fewer than 33 entries, does not show the motion-picture subtitle, or credits a different artist, it may be an unofficial playlist or a different Sonic release.

Can you buy the film score on CD or vinyl?
An official CD or vinyl edition for the film score has not been established by the available release information. Paramount’s listing points readers to digital music destinations, and the Apple Music entry supplies the 33-song metadata. Do not treat a marketplace listing, fan-made pressing or imported product as an officially announced physical edition without confirmation from Paramount or Milan Records for your market.
Likewise, no price, one-time promotion or recurring subscription rate is established here. Music-service pricing and purchase rights vary by country and can change after publication. Check the final amount and whether you are buying permanent download rights or only obtaining streaming access through a subscription.
Where the classic Sonic 3 game fits
Sonic Origins Plus
Sega’s Sonic Origins Plus online manual includes Sonic 3 & Knuckles. That makes the collection the relevant modern option when your goal is to play the classic game rather than listen to the 2024 movie score. The manual establishes inclusion in the collection; it does not establish which physical editions are currently stocked, which stores ship to your country or what a current copy costs.
Rank #3
- Experience 12 beloved sonic game gear titles on current generation platforms
- Includes a retro-inspired reversible cover and a 20-page art book
When evaluating a listing, confirm that it is specifically an edition of Sonic Origins Plus and that the seller describes the included classic titles. Edition names, packaging and platform compatibility can differ by region. A listing for another Sonic compilation, a used original cartridge or a soundtrack-only product will not necessarily provide the same software.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe original 1994 release
Sega’s Sonic Channel product information records the original Japanese release of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 as May 27, 1994. It lists Mega Drive, Windows PC and Wii as platforms in the historical product information. Those details document the game’s release history; they are not proof that an original copy or a current digital version is sold on any of those platforms today.
Because the original release is historical, availability depends on territory, platform storefront status, seller condition and whether the copy is new, used or part of a later compilation. Treat claims such as “original Japanese release” or “Wii version” as descriptions to verify, not as evidence of current stock.

Film score versus game release: a buying comparison
| If you want… | Choose | Format | What is established | What you must verify |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| The music from the 2024 movie | Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture) | Digital music service access | Paramount Music links to Apple Music, Amazon Music and Qobuz; Apple Music lists 33 songs and a December 20, 2024 release. | Country support, streaming versus download rights and the final price. |
| To play the classic game in a modern collection | Sonic Origins Plus | Game release; physical or digital edition depends on market | Sega’s manual includes Sonic 3 & Knuckles. | Platform, edition, seller, stock, shipping region and condition. |
| To research the original 1994 product | Historical Sonic the Hedgehog 3 release | Original platform software or later re-release | Sega records May 27, 1994 in Japan and lists Mega Drive, Windows PC and Wii in its product information. | Whether a legitimate current copy or compatible re-release is actually offered where you live. |
How to avoid buying the wrong product
Read the subtitle, not just the franchise name
The phrase Music from the Motion Picture identifies the movie album. A listing that says only “Sonic 3” could refer to the game, a game compilation, a fan playlist or another soundtrack. On music services, check the composer and the 33-song count as well.
Check whether you are paying for access or ownership
A streaming subscription can let you play the album while your subscription and territory support it. A digital purchase, where offered, may provide a downloadable file or library entitlement instead. The Paramount listing does not promise one universal format, so read the destination service’s purchase and download terms before completing payment.
Do not infer current stock from historical platform data
“Mega Drive,” “Windows PC” and “Wii” appear in Sega’s historical information. They do not establish a currently supported storefront, a working download code or a retailer with inventory. For a physical game, ask the seller which edition is in the box, whether it is complete, and what hardware or account region is required.

A practical decision path
- Want to listen to movie music? Start with Paramount Music’s official album page and follow its Apple Music, Amazon Music or Qobuz destination.
- Want to play Sonic 3? Look for an edition of Sonic Origins Plus and confirm that Sonic 3 & Knuckles is included for your platform.
- Want an original collectible? Use Sega’s May 27, 1994 Japanese release information as a historical reference, then independently verify authenticity, region and condition.
- Want physical movie media? Treat CD or vinyl listings cautiously because an official edition is not established here; look for a direct announcement from Paramount or Milan Records before paying a premium.
Availability, region and account checks
- Music services: Apple Music, Amazon Music and Qobuz may have different catalogs or purchasing rules in your country.
- Game editions: Sonic Origins Plus packaging, platforms and stock can vary by territory; the manual confirms content, not inventory.
- Older releases: A historical platform listing is not a guarantee that the original software is currently sold or supported.
- Physical media: Confirm seller location, shipping, language or region coding where relevant, return policy and whether the item is new, used or an unofficial reproduction.
Bottom line for each buyer
For the 2024 movie music, the identifiable release is Tom Holkenborg’s Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (Music from the Motion Picture). Use Paramount Music’s official page to reach Apple Music, Amazon Music or Qobuz, then verify the December 20, 2024 date and 33-song listing on the service you choose.
For the classic game, look for Sonic Origins Plus when you want a modern collection that includes Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Sega’s original game page is valuable for release-history details—Japan, May 27, 1994, Mega Drive, Windows PC and Wii—but it should not be read as a current sales listing.
