- Set your requirements. Write down the room dimensions, target furniture dimensions, budget, and any must-have delivery or setup needs.
- Measure the room and route. Use a tape measure to check the intended location and the full path into the home, including doors and tight turns.
- Find nearby options. Search official store locators for showrooms and outlets, then compare their listings with online retailers.
- Compare the exact item and total cost. Confirm stock, delivery scope and timing, fees, return costs, and written warranty terms with each seller.
- Document outlet terms. For open-box or discounted goods, record the item’s condition, included parts, and return eligibility before purchase.
- Keep purchase and delivery records. Save the product listing and order confirmation, and note any damage or missing parts when the furniture arrives.
Delivery problems are worth planning for: Consumer Reports reported in a December 11, 2020 survey of more than 38,000 furniture purchases that 6% of in-store purchases and 10% of online purchases had an item arrive damaged or with missing parts.
