Short answer: You can run an Arma Reforger server from a player-hosted session, operate a dedicated server on your own hardware, or rent one from a managed provider. Renting is usually the simplest route for a persistent community, but the right choice depends on peak players, mod load, player locations, crossplay platforms, configuration control and how reliably you can restore saves. Nitrado publishes US prices of $16.19 for 10 slots, $24.99 for 20 and $39.49 for 32 slots for 30 days (offer checked October 15, 2026). GTX Gaming publishes managed features including Workshop support, crossplay and 24/7 support, but does not state comparable prices in the available information.
Godlike.Host offers hosted Arma Reforger servers with its own game panel, SFTP access and free DDoS protection, if you would rather not host it yourself.
Choose the type of server before choosing a seller
Player-hosted session
A player-hosted session runs from one participant’s game. It is useful for occasional co-op because there is no separate hosting bill, but the session generally depends on that player’s connection and availability. It is a poor fit for a community that expects a persistent world, scheduled restarts or access when the original host is offline.

Self-managed dedicated server
Bohemia Interactive’s support information says dedicated-server tools are available and that hosting can be done locally or through third-party providers. Community documentation defines a dedicated server as “a server without any game instance launched; it purely processes game information and network synchronisation.” In practical terms, the machine runs the server process rather than also rendering a player’s game.
Self-hosting gives you control over operating-system updates, files, logs, mods, backups and network policy. You also carry responsibility for bandwidth, hardware reliability, firewall rules, patching, recovery and exposing the server safely to the internet. The available evidence does not establish a universal CPU, bandwidth or RAM requirement for every player count and mod set, so treat any fixed specification quoted elsewhere as a workload-specific estimate rather than a rule.

Managed rental
A managed host supplies the machine, control panel and network service, then handles some combination of installation, updates, backups, DDoS mitigation and support. You trade some low-level control for faster setup and a predictable operational workflow. Read the plan’s actual file-access, backup-retention and cancellation terms instead of assuming that every “managed” feature is included.
How much capacity do you actually need?
Start with peak concurrency
Count the number of people likely to be connected at the busiest event, not the size of your chat group. Leave headroom for guests and for scenarios whose scripts or AI create more work than a simple mission. A 10-slot plan can be adequate for a small squad; a larger community may need 20, 32 or more slots. More slots do not by themselves guarantee smoother play: simulation load, mods, scenario design, CPU scheduling and network conditions all matter.

Ask whether a provider charges per slot, sells a fixed hardware tier or combines a base plan with add-ons. Compare the total recurring price for the slot count you need, including taxes, extra storage, backups and additional instances. Nitrado’s published US figures are for 30 days; its offer also describes adjustable runtimes from 3 to 365 days and custom configurations from 10 to 125 slots. Those are offer-page terms, not a universal market price, and they can change by region or date.
RAM is workload-dependent
No independent source in the available evidence establishes a single RAM requirement for Arma Reforger. Ask the host how memory is allocated, whether it is shared or reserved, what happens when a mod-heavy mission exceeds the plan and whether you can upgrade without rebuilding the server. If self-hosting, monitor memory, CPU time, disk space and network upload during your busiest scenario before deciding that a specification is sufficient.
Location and latency determine where to rent
Select the data center nearest the majority of your regular players. A geographically central location usually reduces round-trip time, but the route taken by each internet provider can matter as much as physical distance. Ask whether you can move regions later and whether migration changes the server’s address, files or save data.

Nitrado’s US offer lists Frankfurt, London, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Singapore and Sydney as selectable locations. GTX Gaming describes worldwide data centers without naming a specific location list in the available material. Confirm the exact region shown at checkout rather than relying on a generic “worldwide” label.

Crossplay: verify the exact platforms and build
Crossplay is a plan feature, not an assumption. Confirm that the current server build supports the combination your community uses and that console players can join the same modded scenario as PC players. Check whether a future game patch temporarily disables crossplay or requires a provider-side update.
Nitrado advertises crossplay but the available offer description does not specify the individual console platforms. GTX Gaming states crossplay for PC, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Treat both statements as provider-published features and verify compatibility in the control panel before paying, especially when a particular Workshop collection is required.
Mods, Workshop content and scenarios need operational checks
Installation and storage
Ask whether you can install Workshop items directly, specify versions, remove broken packages and see how much storage remains. Nitrado advertises mod and plugin installation. GTX Gaming advertises full Workshop mod support. Neither statement, as supplied, specifies a universal storage quota or guarantees that every third-party mod will remain compatible after a game update.
Configuration access
Find out whether the panel exposes server configuration files, startup arguments, mission rotation, passwords, administrator lists and log downloads. Nitrado advertises custom configurations from 10 to 125 slots, but the available description does not define the depth of file-level editing. GTX Gaming’s supplied feature list does not state the configuration-file scope. If you need custom scenarios or scripted rules, obtain that answer in writing before ordering.
Update behavior
Automatic updates reduce maintenance but can also change a live mod set unexpectedly. GTX Gaming says it performs automatic updates with Bohemia patches. Ask whether updates are scheduled, whether you can delay them, how failed mod downloads are reported and whether the server can be rolled back. For either provider, keep a copy of your configuration and a manifest of required mods so you can reproduce the setup after a reinstall.
Backups and save recovery are more important than a low monthly price
Distinguish a backup of configuration files from a backup of persistent world or scenario saves. Ask four specific questions:
- How often are backups taken, and are they automatic?
- How long are they retained, and are older generations available?
- Can you trigger, download and restore a backup yourself?
- Do saves survive a reinstall, region change, cancellation or migration to another provider?
Nitrado advertises daily backups, but the available offer description does not state retention length or the exact restore controls. GTX Gaming advertises scheduled off-site backups; its supplied information does not state retention, customer-initiated restore or save-migration terms. A project-specific Overthrow Reforger dedicated-server guide recommends Bacon, GTX Gaming and GPortal, while reporting save-restart difficulties with Nitrado in that project’s experience. That is an operational warning from one project, not a universal performance verdict. Use it as a reason to test a restore and ask for a documented save workflow.

A practical buying procedure
- Define the community. Record peak concurrent players, platforms, expected mod collection and the scenarios you will run most often.
- Shortlist regions. Choose the location nearest most players and ask how a later region move affects the address and saves.
- Match the slot tier. Select a plan that covers peak demand with reasonable headroom; compare the full recurring total, not only the advertised base number.
- Confirm crossplay. Get written confirmation for the exact PC, Xbox Series X|S and/or PlayStation 5 combination and current game build you need.
- Test the mod workflow. Install the intended Workshop collection, check storage, verify load order and confirm what happens when a mod updates or fails.
- Inspect control-panel access. Locate configuration editing, log downloads, scheduled restarts, administrator controls and password settings before inviting players.
- Prove recovery. Create a test save, take or wait for a backup, restore it on a staging instance and record the steps. Do not assume a “backup” includes persistent world data.
- Read exit terms. Check cancellation timing, refunds, data-download options and how long files remain available after expiry.
- Monitor the first busy sessions. Watch server logs, simulation behavior, memory, CPU and player latency. If the workload exceeds the plan, upgrade or simplify the mod/scenario set rather than guessing at a universal hardware requirement.
When self-hosting is the better option
Self-host when you already operate reliable hardware and networking, need unrestricted file access, can maintain your own update and backup routine, or want to move the instance between machines without a provider’s policies. It is also useful for development and testing because you can inspect logs and change startup parameters directly.
Choose managed hosting when the server must be available while you are offline, your group needs a simple panel, or you do not want to handle DDoS mitigation, patching and recovery alone. Before committing, ask for a temporary test or use the provider’s cancellation window to validate your mod set, crossplay and save restore. The available material does not establish a universal winner on performance; your player geography and workload are decisive.
Rules for monetized community servers
If you plan to charge players, sell access or otherwise monetize an Arma Reforger community server, check Bohemia Interactive’s current policy first. The supplied policy guidance says monetized servers require registration, approval and listing on the official server page. Treat approval as a prerequisite, not as something a host can provide automatically.
The Bottom Line
For a managed purchase, compare the published Nitrado slot prices and regions with GTX Gaming’s stated Workshop, crossplay, backup and support features, then make the decision only after confirming configuration access and successfully testing a persistent-save restore for your own mod set.
