SteamDB records a 1.50 GiB download and 1.65 GiB installed Windows depot, so the practical requirement is higher than the compressed download but still well below 5 GB.

“Minimum” means the hardware class the listing names as the baseline for launching and playing the demo; it is not a guarantee of a particular frame rate, resolution or graphics preset. “Recommended” is a stronger target, but the listing does not attach a tested frame-rate or image-quality target to either tier.
What the CPU and GPU tiers mean
Minimum processors
The Core i5-10400 and Ryzen 5 5500 are six-core desktop processors from different generations and platforms. A laptop chip with a similar model number may perform differently because of power limits and cooling, so compare the exact processor in your machine rather than only the brand or i5/Ryzen 5 label.

Recommended processors
The Core i5-12400 and Ryzen 5 5600 represent a newer performance class. They provide more headroom for game logic, background tasks and shader compilation than the listed minimum CPUs. If your processor falls between these tiers, the requirement table alone cannot predict performance; use the graphics card, cooling and actual game settings as additional factors.
Minimum graphics cards
The GTX 1660 is listed with 6 GB of video memory, while the RX 6600 is listed with 8 GB. These capacities are part of the named models, not a separate memory requirement that can be substituted with system RAM. Integrated graphics are not listed, and the official page gives no assurance that they will run the demo.
Recommended graphics cards
The recommended class is an RTX 3060 with 8 GB or a Radeon RX 6700 XT. The listing does not promise ray tracing, a specific upscaling mode or a particular resolution. Treat the recommended cards as a hardware target rather than a preset or FPS guarantee.

How much storage the demo really uses
Steam publishes a requirement of 5 GB of available space and requires an SSD for both tiers. SteamDB’s Windows depot record gives two operational measurements: a 1.50 GiB download and a 1.65 GiB total installed size.

GiB and GB are different units: 1 GiB is 1,024³ bytes, while a decimal GB is 1,000³ bytes. That distinction explains some of the apparent mismatch, but it does not account for all of it. The 5 GB figure is a platform free-space requirement, not a measured copy of the depot payload. It leaves room for temporary installation data, updates and Steam’s operating overhead; the published sources do not quantify each part.
Do not fill a drive to exactly 1.65 GiB and expect installation to succeed. Steam may need temporary working space while unpacking files, and Windows performs better when an SSD has unused capacity. Keeping at least the full 5 GB requested by the store, plus additional room for updates and normal system operation, is the safer approach.

Windows version and platform support
Windows 11 is the stated requirement
The official listing specifies 64-bit Windows 11 for both minimum and recommended configurations. SteamDB identifies the demo as a Windows-only app. No macOS, Linux or console build is specified in the cited listing.

Can it run on Windows 10?
Windows 10 is not listed as supported. That does not prove the executable will fail on every Windows 10 installation, but there is no official compatibility commitment to rely on. If your PC remains on Windows 10, treat the demo as unsupported rather than assuming that meeting the CPU and GPU requirements is enough. Upgrading to a supported 64-bit Windows 11 installation is the only configuration directly covered by the published requirements.
Check your edition and architecture
- Open Settings and choose System.
- Select About and read System type. It should report a 64-bit operating system and an x64-based processor.
- In Windows specifications, confirm that the edition and version are Windows 11.
- Install pending Windows updates, restart, and then recheck the version if an update changed the system information.
Why an SSD is mandatory
The SSD requirement applies to both tiers; it is not merely a recommendation for faster loading. Solid-state storage has much lower seek latency than a mechanical hard drive, which helps a game stream assets and compile or load data without the long pauses associated with random access on a hard disk.

The listing does not specify SATA versus NVMe, a minimum read speed, a drive brand or a capacity beyond the 5 GB free-space figure. A compatible internal SATA SSD or NVMe SSD therefore meets the type of requirement stated, provided Windows and Steam can access it normally. An external SSD may work technically, but performance depends on the USB connection, enclosure and power management; the official requirement does not certify a particular external setup.
Download size versus installed size
SteamDB’s 1.50 GiB figure is the Windows depot download, while 1.65 GiB is the recorded installed depot size. The download is compressed or packaged data; after Steam expands and arranges it, the files occupy more space. Steam can also reserve temporary space during installation, which is why the store’s 5 GB free-space check is the number to follow when preparing the drive.
- Open the demo’s Steam page and start installation.
- When Steam shows the install dialog, select an SSD library with more than 5 GB free.
- Allow additional headroom for a patch or verification pass instead of targeting the exact depot size.
- After installation, open the game’s Properties and use Installed Files to verify the current local footprint.
The 1.50 GiB and 1.65 GiB measurements are SteamDB records for the Windows depot, not a promise that every future build will have exactly those values. Updates can change both numbers.

Controller support and input choices
SteamDB marks the demo as having full controller support and as gamepad preferred. Its metadata specifically includes DualShock controllers over USB and DualSense controllers over USB. No wireless compatibility, button-layout guarantee or particular controller model is stated.
Using a controller
- Connect the controller by USB before launching the demo.
- In Steam, open the game’s Properties, choose Controller, and leave Steam Input enabled unless the game or controller documentation directs otherwise.
- Launch the demo and check the input prompts in the opening menus.
- If prompts do not respond, disconnect other gamepads, reconnect the USB cable, and restart Steam before testing again.
Keyboard and mouse operation is not described in the cited metadata, so the safest expectation from the available information is that the experience is designed around a gamepad while Steam Input can translate other supported devices.
How to check whether your PC qualifies
Verify processor and memory
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
- Select Performance, then CPU, and record the exact model name.
- Select Memory and confirm that the installed total is at least 16 GB.
- Compare the model names with the official minimum or recommended rows, not just the number of cores or the advertised clock speed.
Verify the graphics card and DirectX
- In Task Manager’s Performance tab, select each GPU and record the model and dedicated video memory.
- Press Windows + R, type
dxdiag, and press Enter. - On the System tab, check the DirectX version. The requirement is DirectX 12.
- Use the Display tabs to confirm the driver is current, then restart after installing a driver update.
Verify the installation drive
- In File Explorer, right-click the drive where your Steam library is stored and choose Properties.
- Confirm that the drive is an SSD and has at least 5 GB free.
- In Steam, open Settings and Storage to confirm the demo’s library location before downloading.
Troubleshooting when the demo will not install or launch
Steam reports insufficient space
- Free space on the same drive that contains the selected Steam library; space on another drive does not satisfy the check.
- Empty the Windows recycle bin and remove temporary files, then restart Steam.
- Keep more than the nominal 5 GB because Steam may reserve unpacking space.
- If the library is on a nearly full SSD, move other games or choose another SSD library rather than forcing the installation onto a hard drive.
The game says the operating system is unsupported
- Confirm that Windows reports 64-bit Windows 11, not 32-bit Windows or Windows 10.
- Install current Windows updates and reboot.
- If the machine cannot run Windows 11, the official listing provides no supported fallback.
Black screen, crashes or graphics errors
- Update the NVIDIA or AMD graphics driver for the installed card.
- Verify the demo’s files from Steam’s Properties and Installed Files page.
- Close overlays and background capture tools temporarily to isolate conflicts.
- Check that the dedicated GPU, rather than an integrated adapter, is assigned to the game on systems with multiple GPUs.
Controller is detected but does not respond
- Reconnect it directly by USB and avoid an unpowered hub while testing.
- Restart Steam with the controller connected.
- Review the game’s Steam Input setting and test with only one controller attached.
What these requirements do not tell you
No cited source publishes measured frame rates, resolution targets, graphics presets, loading times or comparative benchmarks. A PC that matches the minimum row may be able to launch the demo but could require lower settings or resolution, while a recommended-tier PC may have more headroom without guaranteeing a fixed FPS. Monitor temperatures, memory use and frame pacing after launch instead of treating the table as a performance promise.

Demo availability and release details
SteamDB records the demo as a free, Windows-only app released on October 16, 2026 at 07:51:37 UTC. The parent game’s Steam page identifies CygamesEdge and ZEREO Inc. as developers and Cygames, Inc. as publisher. Store availability can change by region or over time, so the live Steam page remains the authority for download status.
The game’s premise, as described on Steam, is a world afflicted by Blight in which humanity builds new homes on the branches of the World Tree. The roughly three-hour scope makes the demo a relatively small download, but the Windows 11, DirectX 12 and SSD requirements still apply in full.
