That is a forecast from Nvidia’s disclosed activity—not a list of confirmed future targets.
The headline’s $100 billion refers to a September 2025 letter of intent with OpenAI: Nvidia said it intended to invest up to that amount progressively as at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems were deployed. It was not a report that Nvidia had already invested $100 billion.

What does Nvidia’s $100 billion figure actually mean?
On September 22, 2025, Nvidia and OpenAI announced a letter of intent covering at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems. Nvidia said it intended to invest up to $100 billion as each gigawatt was deployed, with the first phase targeted for the second half of 2026. The investment was therefore tied to deployment milestones, not described as an immediate payment or completed investment.

That proposal is distinct from OpenAI’s later funding round. The Associated Press reported in February 2026 that OpenAI announced a $110 billion round, including a $30 billion commitment from Nvidia. On October 2, 2026, Spain’s Cinco Días, citing The Information, reported that Nvidia and SoftBank had each paid the final $10 billion of their respective $30 billion commitments. That payment update is secondary reporting; Nvidia’s latest primary quarterly filing cited here, dated July 26, 2026, does not confirm it. The reviewed sources also do not establish whether the original 10-gigawatt deployment milestones have been met.

These are different arrangements and should not be added together as one $100 billion investment. Nvidia’s filing separately reports company-wide investment totals, cloud-service commitments and conditional guarantees, each measuring a different kind of exposure.
What Nvidia has disclosed about its capital and commitments
As of July 26, 2026, Nvidia reported $99 billion in equity investments and $25 billion in equity investment commitments. Those are company-wide figures, not an OpenAI-only subtotal. The same filing reported $36 billion in commitments to purchase services from AI-cloud partners. Nvidia said these commitments are typically six years long and decline as third-party customers or Nvidia use the capacity; some arrangements may also include revenue sharing.
Nvidia also described guarantees of up to $105 billion in aggregate for a specific OpenAI campus, subject to conditions. The filing says exposure rises as facilities enter service and falls as OpenAI fulfills lease payments. This is contingent guarantee exposure—not equity investment and not an automatic $105 billion cash outlay.

A separate August 10, 2026 announcement described preliminary memorandums of understanding with Apollo, BlackRock, Blackstone, Brookfield, Goldman Sachs and KKR. Nvidia said the arrangements were intended to mobilize more than $500 billion in third-party capital for AI infrastructure over time. The figure is a target for capital from those outside institutions, not Nvidia’s own investment. Nvidia’s SEC filing cautioned that the preliminary arrangements may not result in definitive agreements.
How the announced deals differ
“Dealmaking” covers several kinds of activity here. An equity investment, a supplier agreement, a cloud-service commitment, a license, a guarantee and a preliminary financing MOU do not create the same cash flows or risks.
| Arrangement | Disclosed figure and date | What the figure represents | Status or qualification |
|---|---|---|---|
| OpenAI systems and investment letter of intent | Up to $100 billion; announced September 22, 2025 | Nvidia’s intended investment tied progressively to deployment of at least 10 gigawatts of Nvidia systems | Letter of intent; first phase targeted for the second half of 2026. Where Nvidia is most likely to put dealmaking capacity next
1. Financing and capacity for AI infrastructure
The financing-platform MOUs and Nvidia’s AI-cloud model point toward more arrangements that help operators fund, build and rent computing capacity. In the cloud model Nvidia described, providers buy Nvidia infrastructure while Nvidia makes commitments to buy cloud services. This can help support deployment, but it also makes it important to distinguish Nvidia’s equity capital from a purchase commitment or a third party’s financing.

- Wide Application: The server rack wall mount maximizes the use of available space, suitable for retail venues, classrooms, offices, and other places where space is limited.
Nvidia’s August announcement framed the logic in the words of CEO Jensen Huang: “In AI, compute is revenue.” That is management’s case for treating computing capacity as an investable asset, not an independent finding that every planned facility will earn a return.
2. Suppliers that ease hardware bottlenecks
The Coherent and Marvell agreements suggest Nvidia is interested in more than model developers and cloud operators. Optics, networking, custom accelerators and related technologies can matter as AI systems grow and need to move more data. The announced investments combine capital with commitments or collaboration in specific areas, giving Nvidia ways to support supply and technology development without making every arrangement an acquisition.
Nvidia’s filings and results also describe activity with Anthropic, a non-exclusive Groq licensing agreement, expanded work with AWS and plans with CoreWeave to build AI-factory capacity. These examples span investments, licensing and commercial partnerships; they should not all be described as equity stakes.

3. AI clouds, model developers and specialized compute
Supporting AI clouds and model developers can expand demand for Nvidia platforms while helping customers secure the computing they need. The company’s disclosed activity suggests it may continue backing this ecosystem through a mix of investment, technology licensing, capacity plans and cloud commitments.
That strategy has a counterweight: some customers are also developing alternatives to Nvidia hardware. Supporting a customer can help grow the AI market, but it does not guarantee that the customer will rely exclusively on Nvidia products.

4. Data-center sites, power and operators
Nvidia’s filing identifies land, power, data-center shells and capital as necessary inputs to the buildout, and warns that shortages can affect revenue and performance. That makes access to viable sites and power, along with experienced operators, plausible strategic priorities. It also exposes the strategy to construction delays, financing constraints, electricity availability and counterparty credit risk.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What could limit or change the forecast?
- Announcements may not become operating assets. A letter of intent or MOU is not the same as a completed deployment or definitive financing agreement.
- Capital figures measure different exposures. Equity, equity commitments, service purchases, third-party capital and conditional guarantees cannot be treated as interchangeable investments.
- Construction and power are real constraints. Nvidia has identified shortages in land, power and data-center capacity as potential business risks.
- Customer demand and credit matter. Cloud commitments and campus guarantees depend on usage, lease payments and the financial condition of counterparties.
- The evidence does not name the next target. Coherent and Marvell support a forecast of continued infrastructure-oriented activity, but Nvidia has not disclosed a specific next investment target in the cited material.
What the scale of Nvidia’s infrastructure business tells us
Nvidia reported $62.3 billion in fourth-quarter Data Center revenue and $193.7 billion in full-year Data Center revenue in its fiscal 2026 results. These figures show the commercial scale of the business behind its infrastructure strategy; they do not establish which company Nvidia will back next or whether a particular financing arrangement will succeed.
The best-supported expectation is therefore a direction, not a prediction of named deals: Nvidia is likely to keep working across the infrastructure chain, with financing and deployment structures alongside investment in AI customers and suppliers. The form of each arrangement—and who ultimately supplies the capital—matters as much as the headline amount.
