The best-documented country list available for U.S. antimony imports identifies China, Belgium, India and Bolivia as leading sources during 2019–2022. A U.S. Department of Energy graphic published in January 2025, using USGS data, also reports 82% net import reliance for antimony for 2023. Those dates matter: the country list is not a confirmed 2026 ranking.
USGS reported that recycling was the only source of domestic antimony supply in 2024. The United States therefore relies heavily on overseas supply while obtaining the domestic material that was reported that year through recycling. A current 2026 country-share figure is not established in the available USGS material.

The short answer
For the historical period covered by the latest country graphic available, the United States obtained antimony imports primarily from four listed source countries:
| Measure | What the published figure says | Period covered |
|---|---|---|
| Leading U.S. import sources | China, Belgium, India and Bolivia | 2019–2022 |
| U.S. net import reliance | 82% | 2023 statistic presented in the January 2025 Department of Energy document |
| Domestic antimony supply | Recycling was the only reported domestic source | 2024, according to USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2025 |
These are different measurements. The four countries describe import sources over a four-year window. The 82% figure describes net import reliance for a different year. The recycling statement describes the source of domestic supply in 2024, not the percentage of all U.S. consumption supplied domestically.

Which countries supplied antimony to the United States?
The Department of Energy graphic identifies four leading import sources for 2019–2022. It does not provide a current 2026 ranking, and the available summary does not state each country’s percentage or tonnage.
China
China appears in the historical list of leading U.S. import sources. The graphic does not establish what portion of U.S. imports came from China, whether China ranked first in every year from 2019 through 2022, or whether the material was mined there. An exporting country can be a processing or trading location rather than the mine origin.

Belgium is also listed as a leading source for the 2019–2022 period. That designation identifies the import source used in the underlying trade data; it does not prove that all antimony shipped from Belgium originated in Belgian mines. No country-specific share is provided in the available figure.
India
India is included among the four leading sources in the same historical snapshot. The published information does not specify whether the shipments were ore, concentrate, metal, oxide or another processed form, nor does it separate Indian mine production from material processed or re-exported there.

Bolivia
Bolivia completes the four-country list. The source supports calling Bolivia a leading U.S. import source during 2019–2022, but it does not support a 2026 ranking, a precise share, or a claim that every shipment represented Bolivian mine output.
Does the United States produce antimony?
USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2025 states that recycling was the only source of domestic antimony supply in 2024. In practical terms, the domestic material counted by USGS for that year came from recovering antimony-bearing material rather than from a reported domestic mined or newly processed source.
The wording is important. “Domestic supply” is an accounting measure, while U.S. consumption includes imported material as well as material recovered domestically. The recycling statement therefore cannot be converted into a claim that recycling supplied a particular percentage of national demand; no such percentage is stated.
It also should not be stretched into an unsupported claim about every possible U.S. mining or processing activity. The supported conclusion is narrower: in the USGS 2024 domestic-supply accounting, recycling was the only identified source.
What does 82% net import reliance mean?
The 82% figure is the clearest published indicator of U.S. dependence on foreign antimony, but it is not an import tonnage number. The Department of Energy document presents it as a 2023 net-import-reliance statistic based on USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2024 data.

Net import reliance is intended to show how much of domestic requirements depend on net imports after the relevant domestic production, trade and supply adjustments used by the statistical agency. It should not be read as saying that exactly 82% of every antimony product purchased in the United States arrived directly from overseas, or that 18% came from U.S. mines. The 2024 USGS statement instead identifies recycling as the only domestic supply source for that year.

Because the 82% statistic and the four-country list use different periods, they answer different questions. The percentage gives a national dependence measure for 2023; the country list shows where imports came from across 2019–2022.
Why an import source is not necessarily a mining origin
International trade data usually identifies the country from which a shipment entered the United States. Antimony can move through several stages before importation: extraction, concentration, refining, conversion into metal or compounds, and trading or distribution. A shipment recorded from Belgium, for example, may contain material mined elsewhere and processed or consolidated in Belgium.
The available country graphic does not trace a mine-to-refinery route for each supplier. The accurate wording is therefore “U.S. import source” or “country of shipment,” not “country where all U.S. antimony was mined.” This distinction is especially important for processed products whose trade classification may differ from the original mineral form.
Possible material stages include ore, concentrate, antimony metal, oxide and other processed products. The available country list does not specify which forms account for each country’s shipments, so a country comparison cannot safely be treated as a comparison of mine production.

How the dates fit together
| Date or period | Evidence available | What it can answer |
|---|---|---|
| 2019–2022 | Department of Energy graphic based on USGS data lists China, Belgium, India and Bolivia as leading import sources | Which countries were leading recorded U.S. import sources in that historical window |
| 2023 | The same graphic reports 82% net import reliance | How dependent U.S. requirements were on net imports in the stated year |
| 2024 | USGS says recycling was the only domestic source of antimony supply | What supplied the domestic portion counted by USGS that year |
| January 2025 | Publication date of the Department of Energy critical-minerals document containing the graphic | When the historical country and reliance presentation was issued |
| 2026 | USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries is the current annual edition, listed as version 1.3, May 2026 | The current reference framework; a new antimony country ranking still requires the actual antimony data sheet |
Reading the table from top to bottom prevents a common error: presenting a 2019–2022 supplier snapshot as if it were a live 2026 trade ranking. Trade flows, processing routes, inventories and policy can change between reporting periods.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What the 2026 USGS edition can and cannot establish
USGS describes Mineral Commodity Summaries as an early annual government publication of nonfuel mineral estimates. Its data sheets cover domestic industry structure, government programs, tariffs and five-year salient statistics for more than 90 minerals and materials. That makes the 2026 edition the appropriate place to look for an updated antimony sheet.
However, identifying the 2026 edition does not supply a missing country statistic. Until the antimony sheet or a corresponding USGS trade release is checked, there is no supported basis for replacing the 2019–2022 list with a new ordering, assigning current percentages, or claiming that one of the four countries remains the largest source.
A responsible update should record four details exactly as USGS presents them:
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- The years covered by the trade data.
- Whether the statistic concerns imports, net import reliance, apparent consumption, domestic production or recycling.
- The material form and trade classification, if specified.
- Whether “source” means exporting country, processing location or another defined origin.
Could Chinese policy change the supply picture?
The 2026 USGS context material says China implemented restrictions on several critical-mineral commodities in 2025. The available excerpt does not identify antimony-specific restrictions or quantify an effect on U.S. supply.
Best Value
That means the policy context is relevant but limited. It supports watching future trade and policy data; it does not support claiming that antimony exports were blocked, that U.S. prices changed by a stated amount, or that a particular supplier replaced China. Any antimony-specific conclusion requires an official notice or trade dataset that names antimony and defines the affected products and dates.
The Department of Energy document makes a broader planning point: “Domestic sources are insufficient to meet demand in the short term; in the long term, a diversified network of supply is still prudent.” In context, that is a general statement about critical minerals and materials, not a quantified antimony forecast.
How to answer the question accurately in 2026
- Start with the date. Say that the available country list covers 2019–2022 and comes from a January 2025 Department of Energy graphic using USGS data.
- Name the measure. Call China, Belgium, India and Bolivia leading import sources, not confirmed mining origins or current market-share leaders.
- Separate the reliance statistic. Identify 82% as a 2023 net-import-reliance figure, rather than attaching it to the 2019–2022 country list.
- Explain domestic supply separately. State that USGS reported recycling as the only domestic antimony supply source in 2024, without inventing a domestic percentage of consumption.
- Check the current sheet before updating. Use the 2026 USGS antimony data sheet and preserve its definitions, product form and reporting period.
What can be concluded now
The United States has a high documented dependence on imported antimony: the available 2023 statistic puts net import reliance at 82%. The historical import-source list names China, Belgium, India and Bolivia for 2019–2022, while USGS says recycling supplied the only domestic antimony source reported for 2024.
