You can spend cryptocurrency at some retailer checkouts, through a crypto payment provider enabled by an individual merchant, or indirectly by buying a gift card with crypto. Those are different routes: a platform that supports crypto does not mean every store using it accepts crypto, and buying a gift card is not direct crypto payment to the retailer.

For 2026, the available store-specific guidance here verifies Newegg’s BitPay checkout in the United States and Canada, with different conditions in each country. It does not establish five current stores. Check a retailer’s own payment and gift-card terms for your country before relying on a broader list.

Three ways to shop with crypto

Pay at the retailer’s checkout

A retailer may offer cryptocurrency as a payment option in its own checkout, sometimes by handing payment off to a processor. Newegg’s U.S. payment guide lists BitPay, for example. Check eligible products, order types, and checkout requirements; acceptance may not apply to every purchase.

Use a merchant’s crypto payment provider

Shopify lets merchants activate payment providers, including Solana Pay, Crypto.com, BitPay, OpenNode, and Strike. This is a capability for merchants, not a promise that every Shopify store accepts crypto. A particular merchant must enable a provider and make it available to customers in the relevant region. Shopify also notes that regional acceptability, third-party fees, settlement delays, and manual refunds can matter. See Shopify’s cryptocurrency guidance.

Buy a gift card with crypto

Gift-card services offer an indirect way to spend crypto: you buy a retailer’s card through the provider, then redeem it under the retailer’s gift-card rules. BitPay describes both direct merchant payments and gift cards as ways to spend crypto, and eGifter advertises gift-card purchases with Bitcoin. Their catalogs do not by themselves establish that a particular brand is currently available to you or that its card works for every item or in every country. Check the exact retailer, country, denomination, fees, redemption channel, expiry, and refund terms before paying. Blockchain congestion can delay gift-card processing, according to eGifter’s Bitcoin information. You can also review BitPay’s spending options and its merchant directory.

What Newegg’s published terms say

Newegg’s U.S. and Canadian instructions describe separate offers. Do not assume that a coin, device, eligible order, time limit, or refund option listed for one country applies in the other.

How to check whether a store really accepts crypto

  1. Choose the country and store first. Payment methods can vary by region; do not use another country’s checkout page as proof.
  2. Look for the option at the retailer’s checkout. Confirm whether the retailer accepts crypto directly or redirects payment to a processor, and whether the option appears for your order.
  3. Check the order and device restrictions. Verify eligible merchandise, exclusions, and whether checkout must be completed on desktop, in an app, or in person.
  4. Read payment and refund terms. Confirm supported coins and wallets, payment deadlines, fees, refund method, and whether a crypto payment can be reversed or refunded in another form.
  5. If using a gift card, verify redemption separately. Confirm the card’s country, denomination, redemption channel, eligible purchases, expiry, and refund rules with both the provider and retailer.

For the question “Can I pay with crypto at this store?”, the dependable answer comes from current terms for that specific store, country, and order—not from a payment platform’s general capabilities or a historic list of companies.
