Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesAustralians can look for R18+ PC games at the Epic Games Store, GOG, Fanatical and Green Man Gaming, but availability, age checks and payment options vary by title and checkout. Steam is the difficult exception: a September 2026 report said Australian users needed a credit card even to view R18+ store pages. Buying a key elsewhere does not bypass Steam’s account rules or any age checks that apply when redeeming it. So, where can Australians buy R18+ PC games without a credit card? Start by checking the exact game, its Australian rating and region eligibility, then confirm the store’s age-assurance and payment steps before paying.
First, confirm the game’s Australian rating
Search for the game in the Australian Classification database before choosing a store. R18+ is restricted to adults. Australian Classification says games with chance-based in-game purchases, such as paid loot boxes, have been classified M since 22 September 2024; simulated gambling can lead to an R18+ classification.

Age assurance and payment are separate checks. The eSafety Commissioner says: “Users will have to complete some form of age assurance to access online games classified R18+ by the Australian Classification Board.” Its FAQ distinguishes this requirement from games with lower classifications. Relevant app-distribution services were required to have appropriate checks for R18+ downloads before 9 September 2026. That does not mean every retailer uses the same verification process.

These options are not interchangeable: a store may sell a game directly, offer a key for another platform, or not carry the title in Australia. Check the game’s listing, region eligibility, age-check prompt and payment choices shown at checkout.

Epic Games Store
Epic announced that, beginning 9 September 2026, Australian players must verify they are at least 18 to download or purchase an R18+ game from the Epic Games Store. Verification is handled through Kids Web Services (KWS). Epic’s Australian support guidance lists four methods: selfie-based age estimation by Yoti, government-issued ID processed by Veriff, ConnectID confirmation through a bank, and credit-card validation by Stripe. The first three are non-credit-card age-assurance options.
Epic says users under 18 cannot access R18+ content, even with parental consent. It also says the check does not change access to games already owned or games rated below R18+. Epic states that ConnectID does not share banking information with ConnectID or KWS, and that selfie and ID images are deleted after verification; those are Epic’s privacy statements, not an independent audit. Age verification does not establish which payment methods will appear for a particular Australian purchase, so inspect the checkout for the game you want.

GOG
GOG is another shop to check for a direct game purchase. Its support page lists payment methods including PayPal and paysafecard, along with credit cards and other local options. That global list does not confirm that a given method will be available on every Australian order. Check the game page and the payment choices presented at checkout.

Fanatical and Green Man Gaming
Fanatical and Green Man Gaming are worth checking when the game is not available directly from another store. PC Gamer’s 23 September 2026 report said both sold some R18+ Steam keys and did not prompt Australian buyers for age verification when purchasing R18+ games at that time. Their catalogs differed: neither carried every title. Search for the exact game and confirm Australian region eligibility and the payment methods shown at checkout.
A key from either seller must be redeemed on Steam. A third-party key is a different purchase route, not a way to evade age checks or Steam’s account terms.

- An Epic Games account is required to redeem an Epic Games Store Card code
- If playing on a console platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch or Mobile) you need to link your Epic Games account to that gaming platform (one time) to redeem your gift card code
- The 16 digit code on the back of the card WILL NOT work if redeemed directly through your gaming platform (PlayStation Network, Xbox Live, Nintendo Switch, Mobile, etc.)
- Note: Nintendo devices do not support Fortnite Shared Wallet, so V-Bucks purchased using your account balance will not show up on your Nintendo device. However, if you purchase items in the web Item Shop — or another platform where you play Fortnite — those items will be available in your Locker across all platforms.
- Redemption: Online
Steam
PC Gamer reported on 23 September 2026 that Australians had to provide a credit card even to view Steam’s R18+ store pages, and that a standard bank debit card did not satisfy the requirement. This is a dated account of a changeable platform flow; check Valve’s current Australian process if you are deciding what to buy.
Do not use a VPN, proxy or other method to disguise your location. Valve’s subscriber agreement prohibits disguising where you live to get around regional restrictions and says Valve may terminate account access.

How to choose a route without a credit card
- Find the rating. Look up the title in the Australian Classification database and confirm that it is R18+.
- Check the store’s Australian listing. Verify that the exact game is available in Australia and, for a key, that its region restrictions allow Australian redemption.
- Separate the age check from payment. For Epic, review the non-card verification options. For other stores, follow the age-assurance process currently presented; one store’s approach does not establish another’s.
- Inspect the actual checkout. Use only a payment method displayed for that specific order. A support page listing PayPal or paysafecard globally does not prove it will be offered for an Australian purchase.
- Check where the product is redeemed. A direct game purchase and a Steam key have different account and redemption requirements. A Steam key still requires a Steam account and compliance with Steam’s rules.
What Australian card-use figures do—and do not—tell you
The Reserve Bank of Australia’s 2025 consumer payment survey found that debit cards accounted for 49% of the number of consumer payments, while credit and charge cards accounted for 23%. The survey ran from October to early December 2025 and the RBA summarized it in May 2026. These are shares of transactions, not the percentages of Australians who own each kind of card, and they do not establish which payment options a game store accepts.
