Fortnite servers were back online by 10:02 UTC on October 15, 2026. Epic Games marked the scheduled maintenance for update v42.40 complete at that time. Matchmaking had been disabled from 07:30 UTC, 30 minutes before the planned 08:00 UTC maintenance start. Epic’s status components were operational at 18:20:19 UTC, the latest status time available for this report.
What time did Fortnite come back on October 15?
Epic’s incident record lists 10:02 UTC on October 15 as the completion time for the v42.40 maintenance. That is the clearest answer to “When will Fortnite servers be back up?” for this update: service restoration was posted at 10:02 UTC, rather than being merely estimated.

The maintenance window began at 08:00 UTC. Matchmaking stopped at 07:30 UTC, so players could be prevented from entering new matches before the update work officially started. From the matchmaking cutoff to the completion notice, the interruption lasted about two hours and 32 minutes; the scheduled maintenance itself ran for about two hours and two minutes.

Why were Fortnite servers down?
This was planned maintenance for Fortnite version 42.40, not an ongoing unplanned outage. Epic’s incident title identifies the v42.40 update as the reason for the downtime. Planned updates can make matchmaking, login, or other game services unavailable while files and backend systems are changed.

Epic’s published record does not promise a fixed duration before work begins. The completion timestamp is therefore more useful than an initial estimate: once Epic marks the incident complete, that is the authoritative endpoint for that maintenance event.
Is Fortnite down right now?
At 18:20:19 UTC on October 15, Epic listed its Fortnite-related status components as operational and the v42.40 incident as completed. That status confirms the scheduled event had ended at the time checked, but it is not a permanent guarantee. Service conditions can change after an incident is closed, so players should check the Epic Games Public Status page for the live state.

What to do if you still cannot log in
If the status page shows an active incident or maintenance, waiting is the correct response; restarting the game cannot make an unfinished server update complete. If Epic reports all services as operational, work through local connection checks instead:

- Restart your router or modem, then retry the connection.
- Check whether other online games or websites work on the same connection. A broader failure points to your network or internet provider rather than Fortnite’s servers.
- Apply Epic’s connection-troubleshooting guidance for your platform if the problem affects only your device or account.
- Continue monitoring Epic’s status page if no restoration timeframe is displayed. Epic Player Support says: “If no timeframe is listed on the statuses page, please continue monitoring it to see when the server is back online.”
A completed server incident does not rule out a local DNS, router, platform-network, account, or installation problem. Conversely, changing local settings will not restore service during an Epic maintenance window.

Where Epic posts the next downtime update
For future Fortnite outages and updates, use Epic Games Public Status as the primary source for the incident state, scheduled timing, and component health. Epic’s maintenance guidance also points players to the Fortnite Status social account for announcements. Planned emergency messaging may appear in-game about 24 hours before downtime, when Epic has advance notice.
When checking a future event, record four details: the scheduled start, the matchmaking cutoff, the incident’s completion time, and whether Epic lists the affected components as operational. Those details distinguish a planned update that has finished from a continuing service outage.
