Buy early—ideally in September or October—if you want a particular popular Advent calendar or need it delivered before December 1. If you are flexible, use Black Friday as a price-check rather than a promise of the lowest price: some calendars get discounted, but sought-after ones may sell out first. December markdowns are possible, though the remaining choices and delivery windows can be limited.
When should you buy an Advent calendar?
The right time depends on whether your priority is getting a specific calendar or taking a chance on a lower price. The Better Business Bureau says many brands begin selling calendars in early fall and advises shoppers to buy early for coveted products. The Independent’s 2026 beauty-calendar coverage also reports that some sought-after calendars sell out before November, while some brands have discounted around Black Friday. Early fall through October: shop for selection
Start early if a particular brand, licensed theme, or beauty or fragrance calendar matters to you. Waiting may save money, but there is no assured discount, and the calendar you want may disappear before the sale period. Early shopping also gives you more time to confirm delivery before December begins.

November and Black Friday: compare, but do not assume
Black Friday is a useful checkpoint for comparing current offers, not a guaranteed best-buy date. Discounts vary by calendar, retailer, and year; stock can be a bigger constraint for high-demand releases.
#1 Best Overall
- The 2026 Bonne Maman Advent Calendar holds 24 mini glass jars, each filled with a different limited-edition holiday spread — flavors made once a year, for December only.
- EXCLUSIVE SEASONAL FLAVORS: Each door reveals something new — festive fruit combinations and seasonal pairings that can't be found on the regular shelf any time of year.
- Every jar is made in France with real fruit, no high fructose corn syrup, no artificial additives. Non-GMO Project Verified, gluten-free, and kosher.
- The mini glass jars with their red-check lids are reusable long after December — for spices, small gifts, or holiday place settings that guests will want to keep.
- One of the few food gifts that sells out annually. Thoughtful, collectible, and genuinely delicious — for the host, the foodie, the person who has everything.
For example, GamesRadar reported a 2026 LEGO Marvel Advent Calendar offer at Amazon for $35 against a stated $44.99 price. That is a dated US deal report, not a standing price or a promise that the calendar will remain in stock. GamesRadar’s deal report
MoneySavingExpert’s comparison of 50 popular products—not Advent calendars—found that Black Friday 2024 was the cheaper of two compared dates, Black Friday and December 18, for 37 items (74%); December 18 was cheaper for 3 (6%), and 10 (20%) tied. Its reported average discount was 34% on Black Friday and 25% on December 18. This historical sample offers general shopping context, not a calendar-specific result or a forecast for 2026. December and after Christmas: check stock and delivery first
Leftover calendars can be marked down in December, but a discount is useful only if the calendar is still available and will arrive in time for its intended use. Which? reported in December 2025 that many popular calendars had sold out even as some remaining products were discounted. One Candy Kittens order was estimated to ship December 19–January 5, too late to start a December 1 countdown; it might instead suit someone buying a post-Christmas treat. Its examples included UK prices and availability, which may not match US offers. Which? December 2025 report

Post-Christmas clearance can make sense if you are buying for next year or want a non-time-sensitive gift. It cannot restore the days already passed in this year’s countdown.
How to tell whether a calendar is a good deal
A discount label or advertised contents value does not tell you whether a calendar is worth buying. Judge the exact box, the total cost, and whether it suits the recipient.
- Check what is behind the doors. Look for the actual products, their quantity, and whether they are miniature or full-size. Ask whether the recipient would use them; a headline “worth” figure is not the same as value to that person.
- Compare the exact edition. Match the calendar year, contents, seller, and delivery terms across stores. Contents can change from year to year, so an older review may describe a different box.
- Work out the total cost. Include shipping, tax, coupon conditions, any membership requirement, and the seller or fulfillment identity. Check the promised arrival date if it must be ready by December 1.
- Question the reference price. Compare current offers and, where available, price history. A crossed-out price by itself does not prove the offer is the lowest available.
- Check the seller and terms. Read shipping and return restrictions, and use a retailer you can verify. Be cautious of unusually low prices for popular sold-out calendars, social-media ads, and glowing reviews that cannot be verified.
The Better Business Bureau advises shoppers to “Shop early” and warns that “Deals that seem too good to be true are often a telltale sign of a scam.” Its guidance recommends using reputable sellers and researching a company before buying. BBB shopping guidance

Retailer promotions are not universal
Sale events and price-match terms can be limited to one retailer, specific eligible products, and a defined period. As a historical US example, Target announced weekly holiday deal drops and a Holiday Price Match Guarantee for November 1–December 24, 2025. The guarantee applied to eligible items if Target later offered a lower price; it was not a general competitor price-match policy and does not establish Target’s terms for 2026. Check the retailer’s current policy before relying on a price adjustment. Target’s 2025 holiday announcement
Quick Recap
A practical decision rule
- Buy early if you want a particular high-demand calendar, need it before December 1, or would be disappointed with a substitute.
- Wait and compare if you are open to alternatives and can accept the risk that your first choice sells out. Check Black Friday prices, but do not treat the date as a guaranteed low.
- Consider a December or post-Christmas offer only after checking what remains and when it will arrive; late delivery may make it a gift or next-year purchase rather than a usable countdown.
