Deshalb lässt sich das iPhone 5c nicht ohne Quellenabgleich als gesicherter Teil der Hauptliste ausgeben. Welche iPhones nicht automatisch betroffen waren
iPhone 6s und neuere Modelle konnten iOS 15.1 grundsätzlich unterstützen. Dazu gehören auch das iPhone SE der ersten Generation und spätere iPhones. Ein kompatibles Modell kann trotzdem Probleme melden, wenn noch eine ältere iOS-Version installiert ist. Prüfe daher nicht nur den Modellnamen, sondern auch das vorhandene oder angebotene Update. GameStar verweist für die Kompatibilitätsgrenze auf iPhone 6s und neuer.
Android: Version statt kopierter Modellliste prüfen
Für Android galt im Februar 2025 nach dem damaligen Informationsstand mindestens Android 5.0. Android 4.4 oder älter lag damit außerhalb dieser Mindestanforderung. Eine Liste mit angeblich allen betroffenen Samsung-, Huawei- oder Xiaomi-Modellen wäre jedoch irreführend: Gleichnamige Geräte können je nach Region, Firmware und Update-Stand unterschiedliche Android-Versionen verwenden. So prüfst du dein eigenes Smartphone
Android
- Öffne Einstellungen.
- Tippe auf Über das Telefon, Telefoninfo oder einen ähnlich benannten Menüpunkt.
- Öffne Android-Version beziehungsweise Softwareinformationen.
- Notiere die Versionsnummer. Android 5.0 oder neuer entsprach der damals genannten Mindestanforderung.
- Öffne den Play Store, suche nach WhatsApp und prüfe, ob ein Update angeboten wird.
Die Bezeichnungen unterscheiden sich je nach Hersteller und Android-Oberfläche.
iPhone
- Öffne Einstellungen und wähle Allgemein.
- Unter Info findest du Modellbezeichnung und installierte iOS-Version.
- Gehe zu Allgemein → Softwareupdate.
- Prüfe, ob iOS 15.1 oder eine neuere Version installiert werden kann.
Auf iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 und iPhone 6 Plus ist iOS 15.1 nicht verfügbar. Bei einem neueren iPhone kann ein ausstehendes Update die Ursache sein.

Eine bereits aktivierte Installation muss am Stichtag nicht sofort vollständig ausfallen. Sie kann zunächst noch funktionieren, obwohl neue App-Versionen oder Sicherheitsupdates fehlen. Später können Server- oder App-Änderungen den Betrieb beenden. Besonders riskant ist eine erneute Aktivierung: Nach dem Löschen der App, einem Zurücksetzen des Telefons oder einer erneuten Verifizierung der Rufnummer lässt sich die alte Installation möglicherweise nicht wieder einrichten. ComputerBase beschreibt diesen Unterschied zwischen bestehender Nutzung und Neuaktivierung.
Was Betroffene jetzt tun sollten
- Nicht zum Testen löschen: Deinstalliere WhatsApp nicht und setze das alte Telefon nicht zurück, solange du noch keinen Wechsel vorbereitet hast.
- Backup erstellen: Öffne WhatsApp, solange es normal startet, und sichere Chats und Medien nach deinen verfügbaren Konto- und Plattformoptionen.
- Systemupdate installieren: Wenn dein Modell ein kompatibles iOS- oder Android-Update anbietet, installiere es und prüfe WhatsApp anschließend erneut.
