Yes. WhatsApp’s new guest calling feature lets someone without a WhatsApp account join a voice or video call from a computer browser. A WhatsApp user must create and send the call link, while the guest enters a name, waits for approval and joins without registering. Meta announced the feature on October 14, 2026.
What WhatsApp guest calling does
Guest calling removes the account requirement for invitees. A person who does not use WhatsApp can join a call through a browser link supplied by an account holder. Meta says guest calls are free, end-to-end encrypted and have no time limits. The feature supports both voice and video conversations, including one-to-one calls and groups of up to 32 participants.

The account requirement applies only to the host: guests cannot create call links themselves. WhatsApp’s calling documentation says calls work across iOS, Android and the web, although a mobile provider may charge for the data used.

For the WhatsApp host
- Open WhatsApp and select the Calls tab.
- Tap the + icon and choose the option to create a call link.
- Send the generated link to the people you want to invite.
- Keep WhatsApp open to review arrivals. You control who enters the call and can remove guests after they join.
For a guest without WhatsApp
- Open the invitation link in a computer browser.
- Type a name when prompted. No WhatsApp account or app installation is required.
- Enter the waiting room and remain there until the host approves entry.
- Once admitted, use the available call controls to speak, enable video or participate in the meeting.
The waiting room is deliberate: opening the link does not give immediate access. The host must approve each guest, and can remove a participant later if circumstances change.

What guests can do after admission
- Join a voice or video call from a computer browser.
- Use screen sharing from a computer.
- Send reactions, including a thumbs-up or heart.
- Raise a hand to signal that they want to speak.
Guests have a restricted role compared with account holders. They cannot see the other participants’ phone numbers, send WhatsApp messages or add additional people directly to the call. The host remains responsible for distributing the link and managing entry.
Limits, privacy and cost
| Feature | Guest-calling detail |
|---|---|
| WhatsApp account | Required for the host; not required for guests |
| Call types | Voice and video |
| Group size | Up to 32 participants |
| Duration | No time limit stated by Meta |
| Encryption | End-to-end encrypted, according to Meta |
| Price | Free from WhatsApp; mobile data charges may still apply |
| Entry control | Host approval in a waiting room; host can remove guests |
| Browser access | Guests join through a computer browser |
“Free” refers to WhatsApp’s service. An internet or mobile provider can still bill for data, particularly when video is enabled or a guest uses a metered connection. Meta’s no-time-limit statement means the service does not impose a published cutoff; call quality and battery life can still depend on the device and connection.

How guest calling changes invitations
Previously, inviting a non-user to a WhatsApp conversation generally meant asking that person to install the app and create an account first. Guest calling separates the call from that registration step. It is useful for a one-off family conversation, a customer or colleague who does not use WhatsApp, or a group where only some participants already have accounts.

A guest cannot turn the link into a general meeting room, forward the call to new participants from inside the call or use it to start WhatsApp messaging.

Calendar integrations planned for later in 2026
Meta says WhatsApp plans to add Google Calendar and Outlook integrations later in 2026. With a connected WhatsApp account, a user will be able to place a WhatsApp call link in a calendar invitation. Invitees are expected to join with or without WhatsApp accounts. Meta has not provided a precise release date, so the integration should not be treated as available until it appears in the relevant calendar and WhatsApp interfaces.
Practical checks before you share a link
- Confirm that the guest can open the link in a computer browser.
- Tell invitees to enter a recognizable name so you can identify them in the waiting room.
- Plan to watch the waiting room at the start time; guests cannot enter until you approve them.
- Remind mobile users that their provider may charge for data.
- Remove anyone who should no longer participate, using the host controls.
The bottom line
WhatsApp guest calling answers the account question directly: a guest can join a WhatsApp voice or video call without signing up. The trade-off is that an account holder must create the link and approve entry, while guests have limited controls. For calls of up to 32 people, Meta presents the feature as free, end-to-end encrypted and free of time limits, with ordinary internet-data charges still possible.
