For a story-focused prologue, prioritize the quests in PC Gamer’s recommended order below, and finish Deep Down before evening if you want to find Lazar alive. This is one guide’s route—not an official or universal best path. The game advances time as you take on quests, and the publisher warns that you will not be able to help everyone.
Why quest order matters
The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy action RPG set in 14th-century Europe. Its protagonist, Coen, is human by day and a vampire by night. The publisher describes distinct day and night gameplay loops, with different abilities, mysteries, and approaches; it also says quests move time forward. As the official game page puts it, “Every action – and inaction – shapes the world around you.” Official game page Official game page quote

That time pressure means a prologue route is a set of priorities, not a checklist that completes everything. PC Gamer says nearly every prologue quest is marked time-sensitive and that there is not enough time to do them all. Its suggested sequence reflects the guide’s prologue playthroughs, rather than a publisher-designated route. PC Gamer’s prologue guidance

#1 Best Overall
- Day 1 Edition includes the Base Game Disc, Steelbook, and World Map.
- Make The Story Your Own - Experience and shape the plot the way you want. Embark on the quest to save your family, or swear revenge on your sire and destroy everyone standing in your way. Discover ancient secrets lurking in the valley. Rush in head first or risk taking time to prepare. Go alone or search for friends and forge unlikely alliances.
- Day And Night - Experience two different gameplay loops, offering distinct abilities to choose from, mysteries to uncover, and varying ways to achieve your goals. Experiment with different approaches and discover how the world reacts to your actions.
- Every Action Matters - Every action - and inaction - shapes the world around you. Your family’s days are numbered, and every time you take on a quest, time moves forward, compelling you closer to the end. Choose carefully whom to help and whom to leave behind. You will not have time for everyone. The world waits for no one. And neither does the villain.
| Time segment | Recommended quests |
|---|---|
| Morning 1 | Live Bait |
| Morning 2 | Dead Drop; Withering Away |
| Noon 3 | Optional: Page-Turner. Alternatively, take Into The Den in the afternoon. |
| Noon 4 | Withering Away, part 2 |
| Afternoon 5 | Enter Not; If A Tree Falls; Deep Down |
| Afternoon 6 | Blasphemy |
| Evening 7 | Disturbed |
| Evening 8 | Like Father, Like Son |
What the suggested skips mean
PC Gamer’s route leaves out Someone Needs A Lesson and On The Run. The guide describes Into The Den as not time-sensitive and says it can be done after the prologue. Those are prioritization choices: taking a different route does not mean your playthrough has failed. PC Gamer’s prologue guidance
Time-sensitive decisions and quest details
Deep Down: go before evening to find Lazar alive
If finding Lazar alive is your goal, complete Deep Down before evening. PC Gamer reports that arriving in the evening instead leaves you with his corpse. PC Gamer’s quest details

- BECOME THE DAWNWALKER — Play as Coen, a man transformed into a Dawnwalker who walks the line between humanity and vampiric power as he fights to save those he loves.
- SHAPE YOUR OWN DESTINY — Make meaningful choices that determine alliances, revenge, family loyalties, and the fate of the valley through a branching narrative RPG experience.
- DAY AND NIGHT GAMEPLAY — Master two distinct gameplay styles with different abilities, opportunities, mysteries, and approaches that change depending on the time of day.
- SWORD CLAWS AND DARK POWERS — Wield weapons and magic as a human by day or unleash supernatural vampire abilities, enhanced mobility, and devastating combat skills by night.
- A WORLD WHERE TIME MATTERS — Every quest advances time and brings your family closer to their fate, forcing difficult decisions about who to save and what to sacrifice.
Withering Away: Anca and the optional activity
PC Gamer recommends paying Anca the double rate, noting that you can afford it after looting the nearby cave. The guide also suggests the optional Page-Turner activity if you are interested in a later relationship with Anca. These are guide recommendations, not official requirements. PC Gamer’s quest details

What this route does—and does not—promise
The publisher’s framing is that player actions shape the world and that some people will be left unaided. PC Gamer’s sequence gives you a practical way to prioritize prologue content, but it does not establish that this order completes the most quests, produces a particular ending, or is best for every relationship or collectible. The guide’s route details are editorial advice, and may change with game updates. Official game page PC Gamer walkthrough
