Where the new GTA 6 details come from
Game Informer announced its 14-page GTA 6 cover story on September 25, describing interviews with several Rockstar lead designers and a focus on Vice City and Leonida, weather, wildlife and research into Miami and Florida. The magazine said its digital edition would be available September 29. Its feature index subsequently listed separate exclusives on more than 170 animal species and tropical storms and hurricanes. Game Informer’s cover reveal and feature index establish the scope of the coverage; the more specific feature descriptions below are reported details, not hands-on findings or a Rockstar press release.

TechRadar’s October 1 account summarizes the interview details and quotes Rockstar staff. Because GTA 6 remains unreleased as of October 3, 2026, these are reported design intentions and features, not independently verified behavior in a final build.

The reported count is over 170 animal species across Leonida. TechRadar’s October 1 summary breaks that down as more than 60 bird types and more than 30 land mammals, with fish and reptiles also represented. These are figures attributed to the Game Informer interview, not an independently audited species census.

Examples named in the report include flamingos, pelicans and alligators. It also says players can pet dogs. Rockstar’s Michael Kane, vice president of dynamic art, described the goal as covering the state-inspired variety of the setting: urban and rural areas, inland and ocean waters, and wetland habitats such as swamps and the Everglades. His comments connect the animal count to Leonida’s different biomes, rather than suggesting wildlife is limited to one showcase area.
Kane also said Rockstar’s animal art and population teams were focused on research, visual accuracy, movement and animation. That describes the studio’s stated approach; it does not establish how frequently particular animals appear or how they behave during play.

Will GTA 6 have hurricanes?
Game Informer’s feature index identifies tropical storms and hurricanes as a subject of its GTA 6 coverage. TechRadar’s summary describes localized, persistent weather, dynamic cloud formations, rain showers, lightning storms, puddles that remain after rain, rainbows and changing light. The reports establish that severe tropical weather is part of the feature discussion, but do not promise that every storm or effect will occur on every playthrough.

Shepherd also described clouds that move across the map and weather ranging from clear winter skies to towering cumulonimbus clouds with sporadic lightning in Florida’s summer and autumn. Taken together with the reported lingering puddles and rainbows, the coverage suggests Rockstar is aiming for weather that changes both the look and short-term state of the environment. The sources do not provide performance measurements or a detailed storm simulation breakdown.

The new coverage places activities within a broader open-world feature set, but it does not establish a complete activity list. TechRadar refers generally to a range of side activities, while the available Game Informer announcement describes the cover story’s subjects without cataloguing those activities. Specific lists circulating beyond that material should not be treated as confirmed here.

The stronger world-design detail is about density and environmental texture. Rockstar North co-studio head Aaron Garbut told Game Informer, as quoted by TechRadar, that the team worked on “the rooftops, the alleys, the internals and everything in between,” describing a world with enough interiors and detail to make buildings feel more real inside and out. That supports a picture of a more filled-in setting, but it does not confirm particular missions, minigames or side activities.

Rockstar’s support page lists GTA 6 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with Standard and Ultimate editions. Take-Two announced a November 19, 2026 release date and a US Standard Edition price of $79.99 on June 24, 2026; that price is a dated US announcement, so check the current listing for your region before buying. Rockstar’s platform and edition support information says the physical retail package contains a download code rather than a disc, and that an Ultimate Edition upgrade can be purchased separately after redeeming the Standard code. Take-Two’s announcement provides the release date and announced US price: Grand Theft Auto VI pre-orders announcement.
