Capcom Fighting Collection 2 is a Nintendo Switch release, not a separately announced Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. On Switch 2, you can use the physical Nintendo Switch game card or the digital Nintendo Switch version, provided the software is compatible with your console. The package contains eight arcade fighting games, plus training tools, museum and gallery content, quick-save support, display options, and online and local multiplayer.

Capcom and Nintendo’s product information reviewed for this release do not list a dedicated Switch 2 cartridge, Switch 2 upgrade pack, or Switch 2-exclusive graphics mode. Treat it as the standard Switch version running through Switch 2 backward compatibility rather than as a native Switch 2 game.

Which games are included?

The collection includes eight arcade titles. Capcom says regional versions contain the same game content, although selectable ROM versions can change Japanese and English title or character names and some presentation details.

Game Original format in the collection
Capcom vs. SNK Millennium Fight 2000 PRO Arcade fighting game
Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 Arcade fighting game
Capcom Fighting Evolution Arcade fighting game
Street Fighter Alpha 3 UPPER Arcade fighting game
Power Stone Arcade fighting game
Power Stone 2 Arcade fighting game
Project Justice Arcade fighting game
Plasma Sword: Nightmare of Bilstein Arcade fighting game

Because the ROM version can be selected, a player may see different spellings or names when switching between Japanese and English versions. That is a presentation and version-selection difference, not a different regional game lineup.

Is there a Switch 2 Edition?

No separate Nintendo Switch 2 Edition or dedicated upgrade pack is identified for Capcom Fighting Collection 2 in the Capcom and Nintendo product information covered here. Nintendo uses “Nintendo Switch 2 Edition” for a bundle containing the original Switch game and a title-specific upgrade pack. Those packs are available only for selected games, and their enhancements vary by title.

Capcom’s listing identifies Capcom Fighting Collection 2 as a Nintendo Switch release. Nintendo’s compatibility guidance says Switch 2 can play compatible physical and digital games released for the original Switch, while warning that some Switch software may not be fully compatible. Consequently, the safe description is:

  • Physical purchase: a Nintendo Switch game card that can run on Switch 2 when the title is supported.
  • Digital purchase: the Nintendo Switch software license downloaded to a Switch 2, subject to compatibility.
  • Not included: a separately advertised Switch 2 cartridge, automatic upgrade pack, or confirmed Switch 2-only enhancement set.

Do not pay a premium assuming that a “Switch 2 version” exists unless Capcom or Nintendo later publishes a specific edition or upgrade announcement.

What does the Nintendo Switch release contain?

Physical and digital versions

Capcom confirms physical copies for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. Nintendo’s product listing gives the Nintendo Switch game-card release date as 16 May 2025. Nintendo also lists a digital Nintendo Switch storefront version.

The basic game content is intended to be the same across platform versions. Capcom qualifies that statement by noting partial differences caused by hardware and controllers. On Switch, the listed display targets are 1080p in TV mode and 720p in handheld mode.

Multiplayer limits

Nintendo’s product specifications list the following play configurations for the Switch release:

Mode Players What it means
Single system 1–4 Players share one Switch system.
Local wireless 2–8 Players connect compatible systems locally without using online matchmaking.
Online 1–9 Online play supports up to nine players as specified by Nintendo; a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership is required.

Online play is restricted by platform. Capcom’s FAQ states: “No, you can only play online with other players on the same platform.” A Switch player and a PlayStation player therefore cannot play together online. Switch 2 compatibility does not change that platform boundary: someone running the Switch version on Switch 2 should not expect cross-platform matches with PlayStation users.

What extras are bundled with the games?

The collection is more than a set of untouched arcade ROMs. Capcom’s launch information describes a common feature set across the eight titles, with some tools specific to particular games or display types.

Training, difficulty and challenges

  • Every title has a training mode for practicing moves, matchups and timing.
  • Difficulty can be adjusted instead of being locked to the original arcade setting.
  • Each game includes its own in-game challenges.

Arcade conveniences

  • Quick save for Arcade Mode: pause an arcade run and return to it later instead of starting over after every interruption.
  • One-button special-move controls: an optional control approach intended to make special moves easier to execute. Traditional inputs remain relevant for players who want the original style of play.
  • Hit-box displays: the 2D titles can show hit boxes, which is useful for studying attack ranges, collision behavior and defensive timing.

Visual customization

  • Screen filters can alter the presentation of the original arcade imagery.
  • Wallpaper options fill the unused area around the game image when the selected display size does not occupy the entire screen.
  • Display-size controls let players choose how large the game image appears.

Museum and gallery material

A Museum includes music and artwork from all eight games. The Gallery adds concept art, development sketches, original marquee art and game information, along with a bonus illustration by Shinkiro. These archival items are available alongside the playable games rather than as a separate purchase.

Optional new music arrangements

Project Justice, Power Stone 2 and Capcom vs. SNK 2: Mark of the Millennium 2001 have optional new arrangements. In the relevant game’s music settings, players can choose the original soundtrack or “Ver. 2K25.” The revised arrangements are therefore selectable, not forced replacements for the arcade music.

How the physical Switch card works on Switch 2

A physical copy is still a Nintendo Switch game card. It is not a special Switch 2 cartridge, but Nintendo says Switch 2 can play compatible physical Switch software. Use this process:

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Check compatibility before buying. Nintendo cautions that some Switch games may not be fully compatible on Switch 2. Confirm the current compatibility information for your console and the title.
  2. Insert the game card. Place the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 Nintendo Switch card in the Switch 2 game-card slot with the contacts oriented as indicated by the console.
  3. Allow software updates if prompted. The console may request a system or game update before launching.
  4. Start the game from the Home menu. The collection runs as Switch software; the presence of a Switch 2 console does not by itself add an upgrade pack.
  5. Keep the card inserted to play. As with other physical software, the card acts as the ownership check when launching the game.

Physical ownership can be preferable if you want to lend or resell the game, or if you regularly move between consoles and prefer carrying a card. It also avoids downloading the full game before the first launch, although updates may still require storage and an internet connection.

How the digital Switch version works on Switch 2

The digital storefront listing is for Nintendo Switch software. On a Switch 2, download or redownload it through the Nintendo account that owns the license, then launch it from the Home menu. The license is account-based rather than transferable like a physical card.

Digital is the more convenient choice if you switch games frequently, want the collection available without changing cards, or share software through Nintendo’s account and console rules. It does not, however, turn the game into a native Switch 2 Edition. The same compatibility qualification applies, and a digital purchase does not include an unannounced upgrade pack.

Purchase option Advantages Important limitation
Physical Nintendo Switch game card Can be lent or resold; no large initial download; easy to move between compatible consoles. Card must be inserted to play; it remains Switch software on Switch 2.
Digital Nintendo Switch license Immediate download convenience; no card swapping; always available from the owning account. License is account-based and still depends on Switch 2 compatibility; no separate Switch 2 upgrade is included.

Resolution, modes and hardware differences

For Nintendo Switch, Capcom lists 1080p output in TV mode and 720p in handheld mode. Nintendo Switch 2 may display compatible Switch software through its own hardware and output configuration, but the cited Capcom specifications are for the Switch release; they should not be read as a promise of a new native-resolution mode, upgraded textures or other Switch 2-exclusive enhancements.

Capcom’s wording is that “There are partial differences due to the specifications for the hardware and controllers, but the basic game contents are the same.” That distinction matters when comparing the Switch release with PlayStation 4 or another platform: the eight games and principal collection features are shared, while controls, display behavior and some hardware-dependent details can differ.

Regional versions and ROM selection

Capcom says all regional versions contain the same game contents. Within the collection, however, players can switch ROM versions. Japanese and English ROMs may use different game or character names and may present certain text or title elements differently.

Choose the ROM version based on the presentation you prefer, not because one region contains extra games. The regional release does not change the eight-title lineup listed above.

What to verify before purchasing for Switch 2

  • Edition: confirm that the listing says Nintendo Switch game card or Nintendo Switch digital software, rather than assuming “Switch 2” wording means an upgrade edition.
  • Compatibility: check Nintendo’s current Switch 2 compatibility information, since Nintendo warns that some Switch games may not be fully compatible.
  • Multiplayer: remember that online play requires a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership and is limited to players on the same platform.
  • Players nearby: single-system play supports 1–4, local wireless supports 2–8, and Nintendo lists online play for 1–9.
  • Preferred extras: the collection includes training, challenges, quick save, filters, wallpapers, display-size controls, hit-box displays for 2D titles, Museum and Gallery content, and optional Ver. 2K25 arrangements for three games.

Bottom line for a Switch 2 buyer

Buy Capcom Fighting Collection 2 as the standard Nintendo Switch release. Its eight-game lineup and substantial archive and training extras run on Switch 2 when the software is compatible, whether you choose the physical game card or the digital license. There is no separately identified Switch 2 Edition or upgrade pack in the official product information covered here, and online competition remains platform-specific rather than cross-platform.
