A Hugging Face dataset page describes a collection of nearly 5.6 billion public TikTok videos, but the release is structured metadata—not billions of playable video files. The page labels it CC BY-NC 4.0 and describes research and personal use as free; that label does not settle rights to every record or other legal obligations.
What the dataset page reports
The dataset card describes 5,597,462,038 public TikTok videos covering 2014 through October 2026, with a snapshot date of October 3, 2026. The Hugging Face repository page separately reports 5,598,141,717 rows and a size of 460 GB. These are different page-reported figures: the card’s described video count is not interchangeable with the repository’s live row count. Counts and size may change if the repository is updated.

What is in the files—and what is not
The release is a structured dataset of fields describing posts. The schema lists video IDs, posting timestamps, region and language, video or photo type, duration, captions, hashtags, mentions, on-screen text, sounds, ad and branded-content flags, TikTok Shop product and seller IDs, and engagement counts. It also includes nullable flags for AI-generated content and recommendation eligibility.

It does not contain the underlying video footage. A row can describe a post without providing the media itself, so this is not a downloadable library of billions of videos.
Coverage and data-quality caveats
The card says older records come from an archive. Some fields in those records may be zero or null, and older video durations may be rounded to the nearest second. Those caveats matter when comparing older posts with newer ones or interpreting missing values: a zero or null should not automatically be treated as a genuine measured value.
Rank #2
The stated coverage runs from 2014 through October 2026, while the snapshot is dated October 3, 2026. The date labels describe the card’s claimed coverage and snapshot; they are not proof that every post in that period is present or that collection was complete.
Who collected it, and what is known about the method?
The uploader, posting as DataShack, says the collection was assembled by reverse engineering TikTok’s mobile app and that the information was public and available without logging in. Those are the uploader’s claims, not independently audited findings. The repository advertises a technical guide and source code concerning mobile API endpoints, request signing, and device registration; those materials do not independently verify the total count, completeness, or continued access.
The uploader’s account is described in an October 2026 Reddit post. The available information does not establish that TikTok approved the collection or that the described access method will continue to work.

The dataset card labels the release CC BY-NC 4.0 and describes research and personal use as free. It directs users seeking commercial use, creator profiles, and daily updates to datasocial.ai. The license label is the page’s representation; it does not by itself establish rights to every underlying record or resolve questions involving platform terms, privacy, or other legal duties. Anyone considering reuse should review the live dataset terms and assess their own obligations rather than treating “free” as permission for every purpose.
Who may find it useful?
Researchers and analysts interested in large-scale post metadata may find the fields useful for questions about captions, hashtags, posting patterns, sounds, and engagement. The release is less suitable when a project needs the actual video files, uniformly complete historical fields, a verified census of TikTok posts, or an independently audited account of how the data was gathered. Commercial users should not assume the card’s research/personal-use description grants commercial rights.
