Yes—but only for camera switching in supported apps, not for a proven synchronized, multi-phone recording rig. Google’s Connected Cameras feature lets an eligible Pixel use one other eligible Pixel as an external camera. In Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok, you can open the Camera Picker and switch between the host phone and the connected phone while creating supported content. Google’s documentation describes changing the active view; it does not promise simultaneous capture of several Pixel feeds.

Your setup therefore depends on three decisions: whether both phones are eligible, whether your app supports Connected Cameras, and whether switching views is sufficient. If you need every phone to record at the same time for later editing, this feature alone is not documented as a solution.

What Connected Cameras actually does

Connected Cameras is a Pixel feature for making another device available as an external camera inside selected apps. The controlling Pixel remains the host. A second eligible Pixel is added through the app’s Camera Picker, and you can select which camera is live at a given moment.

The important distinction is between switching and simultaneous recording:

  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Switching: the app changes from the host Pixel’s camera to the connected Pixel’s camera, then back again.
  • Simultaneous recording: two or more phones capture independent video feeds at the same time so you can edit them later.

Google’s instructions establish the first behavior. They do not describe synchronized recording from multiple Pixel phones, a multiview layout, or a way to save all connected feeds as separate files. Plan around one active camera view unless the specific app independently documents a different workflow.

For a live stream, switching can provide a quick change from a presenter-facing angle to a second position. For a film, interview, event, or tutorial that requires several angles recorded continuously, use a workflow that explicitly supports multi-camera capture rather than assuming Connected Cameras will create it.

Google’s feature documentation is available at Connect external cameras to your Pixel device.

Check Pixel compatibility before you plan the shoot

Pixel-to-Pixel Connected Cameras support starts with Pixel 6 and later, with significant exclusions. A Pixel 10 cannot connect to another Pixel through this feature, and Pixel A-series phones are also excluded from Pixel-to-Pixel connections. Google separately says Pixel 10 and Pixel A-series devices from Pixel 6a onward can connect to GoPro and USB cameras, but that is a different compatibility path and does not make them compatible with another Pixel.

Phone category Can connect to another Pixel through Connected Cameras? Qualification
Pixel 6 and later, non-A-series and not Pixel 10 Yes, when the other phone is also eligible and all requirements are met Both phones must meet the feature’s model and software conditions shown by Google
Pixel 10 No Google’s current guidance excludes Pixel 10 from Pixel-to-Pixel Connected Cameras
Pixel A-series, including Pixel 6a and later A-series models No These models may connect to GoPro or USB cameras, but not another Pixel through Connected Cameras
Other or older Pixel models Not established as supported Do not assume compatibility without confirmation in Google’s current guidance

Eligibility is not determined only by the camera hardware. A phone can have a capable camera and still be outside the Connected Cameras model list. Check both model names before buying mounts, arranging a set, or promising a client a two-angle stream.

Requirements for a Pixel-to-Pixel connection

The feature has account, device, and app requirements. Complete these checks on both phones before opening the streaming app.

  • A supported app: Google lists Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
  • Permission approval on the second phone: the external Pixel must accept the on-screen request when the host sends it.

Google does not list a particular tripod, clamp, cable, battery pack, or mount as a requirement. Those are production choices for keeping phones aimed correctly and powered during a longer session.

How to connect a second Pixel

  1. Verify both models. Confirm that neither phone is a Pixel 10 or an A-series model, and that each is within the Pixel 6-and-later eligibility range.
  2. Use the same Google Account. Check the signed-in account on both phones. A different account can prevent the devices from being offered as a Connected Camera.
  3. Enable cross-device services. Turn on cross-device services on both phones so discovery and authorization can work.
  4. Enable Connected Cameras on the controller. On the Pixel that will run the stream or recording app, go to Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras and enable Use Connected Cameras.
  5. Open a supported app. Use Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok. The feature is not described as an unrestricted camera mode that works in every app.
  6. Open the Camera Picker. In the app’s camera interface, locate the control for choosing the active camera.
  7. Tap Add Pixel. Select Add Pixel and choose the second phone from the available devices.
  8. Approve the request. On the second Pixel, accept the on-screen permission prompt. Keep both phones unlocked and nearby while pairing.
  9. Test the view before going live. Confirm that the preview changes to the external phone, then switch back to the host camera. Check framing, focus, exposure, and audio before starting the session.

Only one external camera can be connected at a time. If you want to use a different Pixel, disconnect the current external camera first, then repeat the Add Pixel process. Google states: “You can only connect to one external camera at a time, to connect another external camera, you’ll need to disconnect the first external camera.”

Switching views during a live stream

Once the second Pixel is connected, the Camera Picker is the control point for changing the active view. The host phone’s camera and the external Pixel appear as selectable sources. Select the external phone when you want its angle, and select the host phone to return to the original view.

This is best suited to a deliberately staged two-angle stream:

  1. Place the host Pixel where it can run the app and remain accessible to the operator.
  2. Place the second Pixel at the alternate angle, such as a wider shot or an overhead view.
  3. Frame both shots before starting. Leave enough room for the subject to move without leaving the frame.
  4. Start the supported live or capture mode on the host.
  5. Use the Camera Picker for intentional transitions rather than repeatedly tapping at random; every change can interrupt the viewer’s sense of continuity.
  6. Monitor the active view and audio after each switch.

The feature changes which camera is in use; it does not establish that both feeds are being recorded in parallel. If the stream must include two angles at once in a split-screen layout, that capability is not documented here.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

How audio behaves when you switch

Audio comes from the camera currently in use. Switching to the external Pixel therefore changes not only the picture but also the active camera’s audio source. A phone positioned farther from the speaker may produce a quieter or more reverberant track than the host phone.

  • Flawless 4K@60Hz Video with HDMI: Delivers exceptional clarity and smoothness with its 4K@60Hz HDMI port, making it ideal for high-definition presentations and entertainment. (Note: Only the HDMI port supports video projection; the USB-C port is for data transfer only.)

  • What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.

Plan the physical layout around that behavior. Put the phone whose microphone should capture a particular segment close enough to the subject when that angle is active, and monitor for handling noise when a phone is moved. Google cautions that Bluetooth audio may degrade streaming quality, so avoid treating a Bluetooth microphone or headset as automatically lossless for this workflow.

Because the documented behavior follows the selected camera, Connected Cameras should not be treated as a way to mix two phone microphones continuously. Test the audio transition in a private stream or short recording before a public broadcast.

Positioning, mounting, and power: practical choices, not feature requirements

Google’s setup instructions do not require a tripod mount. In practice, a stable adjustable smartphone mount can keep the second Pixel aimed at a repeatable angle and reduce the chance that a tap or cable movement changes the composition. Choose a mount that matches the phone’s size and case thickness, and place it where the display and side buttons are not pressed by the clamp.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

For sessions longer than a short live segment, plan power separately. Connected Cameras documentation does not specify battery duration, charging limits, or a required power accessory. Keep each phone charged, use a safe power source appropriate to the venue, and route cables so they cannot pull a phone off its mount. These are production safeguards, not Google-mandated prerequisites.

Also check network conditions. The cited feature requirements do not provide a bandwidth figure or promise performance under a particular Wi-Fi or cellular condition. A stable connection is a sensible operational check for any live stream, but do not present a specific speed threshold as a Google requirement.

What Connected Cameras cannot currently establish

  • It is not documented as synchronized multi-phone recording. Google explains switching camera views, not saving every Pixel’s feed at once.
  • It is not an all-app camera framework. The listed supported apps are Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok.
  • It does not connect several external Pixels at once. The limit is one external camera at a time.
  • It does not combine audio from all connected phones. Audio follows the camera currently in use.
  • It does not make Pixel 10 or A-series phones Pixel-to-Pixel compatible. Their ability to connect to other camera types is a separate matter.

These limits matter when choosing equipment. If your editor needs isolated files from three angles, Connected Cameras is not evidence that the host app will create them. You would need a separately supported multi-camera recording workflow, with each device recording independently or with a production system designed for simultaneous sources.

Do not confuse this with Pixel USB webcam mode

Pixel phones also have a USB webcam mode, but it solves a different problem. Google documents connecting a Pixel to a receiving device with a data-capable USB cable, opening the phone’s USB options, and choosing Webcam. The receiving device must support UVC (USB Video Class).

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A Pixel cannot use another Pixel as the webcam in that arrangement. In other words, plugging two Pixels together with a USB cable is not a wired substitute for Pixel-to-Pixel Connected Cameras. USB webcam mode is intended for a Pixel serving as a webcam to a compatible computer or other receiving device, not for making one Pixel the webcam host for another Pixel.

Troubleshooting a Pixel that does not appear

The second phone is missing from Add Pixel

  • Recheck the model. Pixel 10 and A-series phones are excluded from Pixel-to-Pixel Connected Cameras.
  • Confirm both phones use the same Google Account.
  • Verify cross-device services are enabled on both devices.
  • On the controlling phone, confirm Use Connected Cameras is enabled at Settings → Connected devices → Connection preferences → Connected Cameras.
  • Make sure you are using Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok rather than an unlisted app.
  • Keep both phones unlocked and nearby while reopening the Camera Picker.

The permission request is not completed

Look at the second Pixel for the on-screen approval request. If it was dismissed, return to the Camera Picker on the host and select Add Pixel again. Do not assume that a prior pairing attempt completed unless the external camera appears as a selectable source.

The view switches but the sound is wrong

Remember that audio follows the active camera. Reposition the phone that should capture the segment, reduce handling noise, and test without Bluetooth audio if quality drops. The documentation specifically warns that Bluetooth audio may degrade streaming quality.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You need a third angle

Disconnect the first external camera before adding another. The documented one-external-camera limit means you cannot keep two remote Pixels connected simultaneously through this feature.

You need all angles recorded

Do not keep troubleshooting Connected Cameras as though a hidden setting will enable synchronized capture. The official guidance does not describe that mode. Use independent recording on each phone or another production method that explicitly supports multiple simultaneous inputs.

Choose the right workflow for your goal

Goal Best fit from the documented options What to expect
Switch between two Pixel angles during a supported social live stream Connected Cameras One host Pixel plus one external eligible Pixel; switch views in the Camera Picker
Use an A-series or Pixel 10 with another camera Camera connection type documented by Google for that model Google lists GoPro and USB-camera connections for these models, not another Pixel
Use a Pixel as a webcam for a computer or UVC receiver USB Webcam mode Use a data-capable USB cable and select Webcam; another Pixel cannot be the webcam receiver
Record several angles simultaneously for editing A separately supported multi-camera workflow Connected Cameras documentation does not establish synchronized multi-feed recording

Use the first row only when a live switch is the actual requirement. If the editorial plan calls for cutting between continuously recorded angles, choose the last row and verify that every device records independently before the shoot.

Pre-stream checklist

  • Both phones are eligible non-A-series Pixels from the Pixel 6 generation or later, excluding Pixel 10.
  • The same Google Account is active on both phones.
  • Cross-device services are enabled on both phones.
  • Use Connected Cameras is enabled on the controlling Pixel.
  • The app is Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
  • The second phone appears after Add Pixel and its permission request is approved.
  • The Camera Picker can switch to the external view and back.
  • Framing is locked down with stable placement; any mount is optional, not a Google requirement.
  • Audio is acceptable from each active camera, and Bluetooth audio has been tested rather than assumed.
  • Both phones have enough charge and safe cable routing for the planned session.
  • You have confirmed whether the production needs switching or simultaneous recording.

Bottom line for a multi-Pixel setup

Eligible Pixel 6-and-later phones can work as a two-angle switching setup in Google’s supported apps when the phones share a Google Account, cross-device services are on, and Connected Cameras is enabled on the host. The Camera Picker lets you add one Pixel and change the active view; audio follows that active camera.

Do not describe this as a full multi-camera recorder. Pixel 10 and A-series models cannot connect to another Pixel through Connected Cameras, only one external camera can be connected at a time, and Google’s instructions do not establish synchronized recording of several Pixel feeds. Decide whether live switching is enough before you build the rig.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I connect two external Pixel phones at the same time?

No. Google’s Connected Cameras guidance limits the setup to one external camera at a time; disconnect the first before adding another.

Will both Pixel phones record separate files automatically?

That behavior is not documented. The official feature description covers switching the active camera view, not synchronized multi-phone capture or automatic separate files.

Can a Pixel 10 connect to another Pixel with Connected Cameras?

No. Google’s current guidance excludes Pixel 10 from Pixel-to-Pixel Connected Cameras. It separately lists connections to GoPro and USB cameras for Pixel 10.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Does Pixel USB Webcam mode let one Pixel use another Pixel as its webcam?

No. USB Webcam mode uses a data-capable cable to a UVC-compatible receiving device, and Google says a Pixel cannot use another Pixel as the webcam.
