To stream PS4 games to an Android phone or tablet, you need a PS4 with Remote Play enabled, the free PS Remote Play app, the same PlayStation account on both devices, a Remote Play-compatible game, and a reliable internet connection. PlayStation lists Android 9 or later for the app’s on-screen controls. A physical controller is optional: DUALSHOCK 4 Bluetooth support starts at Android 10, while DualSense support starts at Android 12. Sony lists 5 Mbps as the minimum connection speed and recommends 15 Mbps for a better experience.
The PS4 must be configured correctly rather than merely switched on. You also need to account for rest-mode settings, primary-console activation, mobile-data usage, controller-driver compatibility, and games that require VR or other unsupported peripherals.

What Android phone or tablet is compatible?
Android version for touch controls
PlayStation lists Android 9 or later for smartphones and tablets using the PS Remote Play app’s on-screen controls. That makes the phone’s operating-system version the first check: open Settings, look for About phone or Android version, and confirm that the device is running Android 9, Android 10, Android 11, Android 12, or a newer release.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
An Android version number alone does not describe the whole experience. Screen size, battery health, thermal performance, Wi-Fi hardware, and the manufacturer’s software can affect comfort and stability. A larger tablet gives the virtual controls more room but is less portable; a phone is easier to hold while travelling but may make touch buttons feel crowded.
Controller compatibility is a separate check
The Android 9 requirement applies to the app and touch controls. Bluetooth controller support starts later. PlayStation lists DUALSHOCK 4 support on Android 10 or later and DualSense support on Android 12 or later. The exact handset still matters because manufacturers can vary in Bluetooth profiles, driver behavior, button mapping, and support for newer controller features.
Before buying or relying on a controller, check the phone maker’s documentation for your specific model. A phone can meet Sony’s Android-version threshold and still have pairing, input-mapping, or firmware limitations that another handset does not.
Do you need a controller?
No. Android 9 or later can use the PS Remote Play app’s on-screen controls, so a separate controller is not a prerequisite. Touch controls are useful for testing the setup, turn-based games, menus, and short sessions. They can be less comfortable for games that need precise analog movement, rapid camera control, or many simultaneous buttons.
| Control method | Android requirement | Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|---|---|
| On-screen controls | Android 9 or later | No extra hardware or pairing; available immediately in the app | Buttons occupy part of the display and may feel less precise. |
| DUALSHOCK 4 over Bluetooth | Android 10 or later, with handset support | Familiar PS4 layout and wireless play | Requires a charged controller and a phone that supports its Bluetooth input correctly. |
| DualSense over Bluetooth | Android 12 or later, with handset support | Modern PlayStation layout and compatible wireless input | Higher Android threshold; advanced console features may not carry over to Android. |
| Backbone One – PlayStation Edition | Android phone devices running Android 10.0 or above, according to PlayStation | Phone-attached controls avoid holding a separate gamepad | Confirm the phone’s physical fit, connector type, and model compatibility before purchase. |
Try the free touch controls first if you are uncertain. A physical controller is a comfort and control decision, not a requirement for basic Remote Play.

- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
How fast must your internet connection be?
PlayStation states that broadband internet with at least 5 Mbps is required. For a better Remote Play experience, it recommends a high-speed connection of at least 15 Mbps using Wi-Fi or mobile data. These figures come from Sony Interactive Entertainment’s 2026 PlayStation guidance; they are service thresholds, not independent benchmark results and do not guarantee a particular frame rate, latency, or picture quality.
Remote Play depends on the complete path between the PS4 and Android device. Congestion, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, distance from the access point, carrier routing, and other household traffic can affect play even when a speed test shows more than 15 Mbps. Upload performance at the console’s location matters because the PS4 is sending the game stream to the phone.
Check both locations
- Measure the connection near the PS4, preferably at the time and location where you will play.
- Measure the Android device on the Wi-Fi network or mobile connection you intend to use.
- Repeat the test when the network is busy if sessions become blurry, delayed, or disconnected.
- Treat 5 Mbps as the minimum starting point and 15 Mbps as the recommended target, not as a promise of flawless play.
PlayStation does not prescribe one router model, Wi-Fi band, or universal latency number in its published overview. Choose the network arrangement that gives your devices a stable connection rather than assuming that a particular brand or band is mandatory.
Prepare the PS4 before opening the app
Remote Play will not work reliably if the PS4 has never been configured for it. Complete the console-side setup first.
- Enable Remote Play. On the PS4, open Settings and find the Remote Play connection settings, then enable Remote Play.
- Use the same PlayStation account. Sign in on the PS4 with the account you will use in the Android app. The app searches for consoles associated with that account.
- Activate the PS4 as your primary console. PlayStation’s troubleshooting guidance identifies primary-console activation as a requirement to check when Remote Play cannot find or connect to the system.
- Keep the console online. The PS4 must have an internet connection while you are using Remote Play, not only when you initially pair it.
- Update system software. PlayStation support recommends keeping the PS4 on the latest available system software before troubleshooting connection problems.
If you only plan to play while the PS4 is already awake, the console can remain on. If you want to wake it remotely from Rest Mode, complete the additional power settings below.

Allow Remote Play to wake a PS4 in Rest Mode
- On the PS4, open Settings.
- Choose Power Save Settings.
- Open Set Features Available in Rest Mode.
- Enable Stay Connected to the Internet.
- Enable Enable Turning on PS4 from Network.
Without both network options, the app may be unable to wake a sleeping console. Rest Mode also consumes some power, and a console that has been fully shut down cannot be awakened through this feature.

Install and sign in to PS Remote Play on Android
- Install the official app. Download PS Remote Play from the Android device’s app store. The core app is free.
- Sign in. Use the same PlayStation account that is active on the PS4. A different account can prevent the app from locating the console.
- Select PS4. Open the app and choose PS4. It searches for a PS4 associated with the signed-in account and attempts to connect.
- Allow the requested permissions. Android may request network, nearby-device, or notification permissions depending on the app and operating-system version. Denying a permission that the app needs can block discovery or controller pairing.
- Start with Wi-Fi. A Wi-Fi session is the simplest way to verify that the console, account, and app are configured correctly before testing mobile data.
When the app finds the PS4, the console’s display appears on the Android device and the available controls are shown. Connection time can vary with the network and whether the PS4 is awake or being resumed from Rest Mode.
Using mobile data away from home
PS Remote Play can use mobile data when enabled in the app’s settings. If mobile data is not enabled, an Android device connected to Wi-Fi continues using Wi-Fi. Streaming over a cellular network consumes the subscriber’s data allowance and may trigger carrier charges or slower service after an allowance is exceeded.
Before leaving Wi-Fi
- Confirm that your mobile plan permits the amount of streaming you expect.
- Check the phone’s data-usage panel after a short session so you know how quickly Remote Play consumes data on your network.
- Test from the locations where you expect to play; coverage and congestion can change substantially between places and times.
- Keep the phone charged or carry a power source, because sustained video decoding and radio use can drain the battery faster than ordinary browsing.
PlayStation’s 5 Mbps minimum and 15 Mbps recommendation apply to either Wi-Fi or mobile data, but a cellular speed test is not a guarantee that the connection will remain stable during a complete session.

Pair a DUALSHOCK 4 or DualSense controller
DUALSHOCK 4
PlayStation lists DUALSHOCK 4 Bluetooth support for Android 10 or later. Put the controller into pairing mode by holding the Share and PS buttons until the light bar flashes, then open the phone’s Bluetooth settings and select the controller when it appears. Exact menu names can vary by Android manufacturer. After pairing, reopen or reconnect to Remote Play if the app does not immediately detect the input.
DualSense
PlayStation lists DualSense support for Android 12 or later. Use the controller’s pairing mode, select it in Android Bluetooth settings, and verify that the buttons and analog sticks register correctly in Remote Play. Some DualSense features designed for PS5 hardware are not necessarily available when the controller is connected to an Android device.
When pairing fails
- Charge the controller and turn off Bluetooth on another device that may be claiming it.
- Forget the controller in Android Bluetooth settings, restart Bluetooth, and pair again.
- Update the phone and controller firmware where the manufacturer provides updates.
- Check the handset maker’s support pages; Sony’s Android threshold does not override a phone-specific driver limitation.
- Use touch controls temporarily to separate a controller problem from a Remote Play network problem.
Check whether a particular PS4 game can be streamed
Remote Play supports many PS4 games, but it is not universal. PlayStation identifies games that require PS VR, PS VR2, or additional peripherals beyond the supported controller types as exclusions or potential incompatibilities. A title that depends on a camera, specialist instrument, headset, or another accessory may fail even when ordinary controller-based games work.
Check the game’s own requirements before troubleshooting the phone. If the game requires hardware that cannot be represented through Remote Play, changing Android settings or increasing internet speed will not make it compatible.
A practical first-session checklist
- Android 9 or later is installed for touch controls.
- The PS Remote Play app is installed from the official app store.
- The same PlayStation account is signed in on the PS4 and Android device.
- Remote Play is enabled in PS4 settings.
- The PS4 is activated as the primary console.
- The PS4 is connected to the internet.
- Rest Mode networking is enabled if remote wake is required.
- The intended network reaches at least 5 Mbps, with 15 Mbps as Sony’s recommended target.
- A controller, if used, meets the Android version requirement and pairs with the exact handset.
- The game does not require PS VR, PS VR2, or unsupported specialist peripherals.
Troubleshoot by symptom
The app cannot find the PS4
- Confirm that both devices use the same PlayStation account.
- Verify that Remote Play is enabled on the console.
- Check that the PS4 is online and that the Android device has working internet access.
- Confirm primary-console activation.
- Restart the app, PS4, and phone, then try discovery again.
- If the PS4 is in Rest Mode, verify both network wake settings under Power Save Settings.
The picture is blurry or controls feel delayed
- Check actual speed and stability near both the PS4 and the phone.
- Move the phone closer to the Wi-Fi access point or test a less congested location.
- Pause other heavy downloads, uploads, and video streams on the same connection.
- Try the session with the PS4 awake to determine whether waking from Rest Mode is the variable.
- If mobile data is involved, test another location; cellular congestion can change without any change to the phone.
The controller connects but does not control the game
- Confirm the Android version threshold for DUALSHOCK 4 or DualSense.
- Forget and re-pair the controller in Bluetooth settings.
- Close other apps that may be capturing gamepad input.
- Test the app’s touch controls. If touch works but the controller does not, the issue is probably pairing, driver support, or button mapping.
A specific game refuses to start
Check whether it requires PS VR, PS VR2, a camera, or another peripheral. Remote Play cannot substitute for unsupported hardware, so this is a compatibility limitation rather than a network fault.

How to choose the right control setup
Use touch controls when you want the lowest-cost, quickest setup or mainly play menus and games that tolerate virtual buttons. Choose DUALSHOCK 4 when you already own one and your phone runs Android 10 or later. Choose DualSense when your phone runs Android 12 or later and you prefer that controller’s layout. Consider a phone-attached controller only after checking the handset’s dimensions, connector, case clearance, and Android compatibility.
In every case, verify the exact phone model rather than relying only on the Android version. The decision is a balance of precision, portability, battery use, and extra hardware cost; none of these controller choices is necessary to establish that Remote Play itself works.
What the speed numbers do—and do not—tell you
The 5 Mbps minimum answers whether your connection meets PlayStation’s published baseline. The 15 Mbps recommendation is a better starting target for image quality and responsiveness, but neither figure measures latency, jitter, packet loss, Wi-Fi interference, or carrier congestion. A fast connection can still feel poor if packets arrive unevenly, while a stable connection near the threshold may be playable for a less demanding title.
