To stream ESPN on Apple TV, you need an Apple TV (4th generation or later), the ESPN app, and a subscription or provider package that covers the content you want. You can subscribe directly to ESPN Unlimited for broader ESPN networks and services, use ESPN Select for ESPN+ programming, or sign in through an eligible TV provider. The device alone does not unlock ESPN content, and the right plan does not guarantee that every event is available in every location.
Choose access based on the content you want
There are two direct ESPN plans, and they do not include the same content. ESPN’s ESPN Partner Program listed the prices below when accessed October 4, 2026. Prices and rights can change, so check ESPN’s page before subscribing.

The catalogue for a particular event can depend on the event and your location. Check the event listing and your plan’s entitlement rather than assuming a plan includes every broadcast.
Check whether your existing provider package is enough
If you already pay for cable, satellite, or a live-TV streaming service, you may not need a separate direct subscription. ESPN’s support page identifies provider activation routes including Hulu + Live TV, DIRECTV, Fubo TV, Spectrum, Verizon FiOS, U-verse, Cox, Comcast Xfinity, and MLB.TV, among others. A provider’s name by itself does not establish eligibility: confirm that your specific package includes the ESPN access you need. See ESPN’s provider activation guidance.

What Apple TV models and software are supported?
ESPN lists Apple TV (4th generation and later) among its supported TV-connected devices in its Supported Devices guide. ESPN separately says ESPN Select and ESPN Unlimited subscriptions are supported on tvOS in its subscription device support article. Those pages do not specify a minimum tvOS version.
Install or update the ESPN app through the App Store on your Apple TV. If you have an older model, check ESPN’s current supported-device list before relying on it. ESPN’s documentation does not say that an Apple TV 4K is required; a supported fourth-generation Apple TV or later is the stated threshold.

How to sign in with a TV provider
For provider-based access, use the username and password for your TV-provider account, not simply your ESPN account credentials. ESPN says the provider package must include ESPN and the account must be in good standing. Its authentication instructions describe selecting a live event in the connected-TV app, using the activation code at ESPN’s activation page, then choosing the provider and signing in.

- If prompted, note the activation code and visit the ESPN activation page shown by the app.
- Choose your TV provider and sign in with the credentials for that provider account.
- Return to the ESPN app. If access is denied, verify that the package includes the relevant ESPN entitlement and that the provider account is active and in good standing.
For the specific ACC Network/ACCNX situation covered in ESPN’s support article, an ESPN Unlimited subscriber can sign in with the account tied to that subscription without a TV provider. That guidance concerns that access flow; it should not be read as a universal rule for every event or entitlement.

Why a stream may still be unavailable
- Your plan may not cover it. ESPN Select provides ESPN+ programming, while broader network access is a different entitlement.
- Your provider tier may not qualify. Having an account with a named provider does not prove that its package includes the channel or stream.
- The event may not be available to your location or package. ESPN’s general live-streaming access guidance and plan information do not establish a complete event-by-event availability matrix.
- You may be using the wrong login. Provider access requires the provider account’s credentials; a separate ESPN account login is not a substitute for provider authentication.
Quick checklist before you start
- Confirm your Apple TV is 4th generation or later and has the ESPN app.
- Decide whether ESPN+ programming via Select is sufficient, or whether you need the broader networks and services in Unlimited.
- If relying on a TV provider, check that your exact package qualifies and have that account’s login ready.
- Check the specific event and any location restrictions before subscribing solely for that event.
- Verify ESPN’s current plan prices and terms directly before purchase.
