You need a game engine that can import and run the generated assets, a tested build for a specific platform, records proving you can ship every asset, and storefront disclosures that match how AI appears in the game. Steam is usually the simpler desktop release path; console publication adds developer admission, platform hardware and tools, porting, and regional ratings.
Start with the engine and release platform
Choose the engine and the first release platform before generating a large library of meshes, textures, rigs, or animations. Import formats, material support, build settings, licensing obligations, storefront surveys, and platform approvals all vary. A model that looks correct in a standalone viewer can still arrive in an engine with the wrong scale, orientation, shaders, skeleton, or collision.

The available documentation covers Godot, Unreal Engine, and Unity features, but it does not establish one universally best engine. Make the choice against your project’s actual requirements:
- Can the engine import the asset format and preserve the materials, UVs, rigging, animation, and blend shapes you need?
- Can your team use the engine’s terms, notices, subscriptions, and third-party license requirements?
- Where will AI-generated content appear: only as files shipped with the game, or generated while players are running it?
- Can you produce and test a build for the intended desktop or console hardware?
Deciding early prevents a costly re-export when the target engine or store requires a different pipeline.

What you need on the development machine
A game engine project
Create a project in the engine you selected and establish its target platform configuration immediately. The engine is where generated meshes become scenes, characters receive collision and gameplay scripts, and the finished project is turned into a distributable build. Asset generation alone does not create game logic, input handling, scenes, audio, menus, save systems, accessibility behavior, or platform packaging.
An asset-generation workflow with traceable origins
Save the original prompts or settings where practical, the service or model used, the date, the unedited output, your modifications, and the applicable terms. This record lets you identify which files contain generated material and investigate a rights question later. The terms of an AI asset service were not established here, so verify commercial-use, redistribution, training-data, and indemnity provisions for every service you actually use.
Export and conversion tools
For the documented Godot 4.0 Blender workflow, glTF 2.0 is the recommended interchange format. Its binary GLB form packages the mesh and textures into one file and is the smallest of the three glTF forms described in that guidance. Direct .blend import in Godot 4.0 requires Blender 3.0 or later; Blender 3.5 or later is recommended for the best results. These requirements are version-specific, so match the documentation to the Godot and Blender versions installed on your machine.

Import generated assets correctly
Use a predictable format
Export a test asset before producing hundreds of files. In the Godot route, start with glTF 2.0 and decide whether GLB’s single-file packaging suits your collaboration and source-control workflow. Keep source files as well as exported files; an engine import is not a replacement for an editable master.
Validate coordinate systems and orientation
Godot uses a right-handed, Y-up coordinate system. Check an imported model’s forward direction, vertical axis, origin, and scale in an actual scene. A model that is rotated or scaled incorrectly can produce wrong character movement, camera framing, physics, and animation even when its geometry is intact.
Check material and texture behavior
Inspect base color, normal, roughness, metallic, opacity, and emissive channels in the engine’s renderer. Older Blender versions have specific export limits: Blender versions before 3.2 do not export emissive textures with glTF. Re-exporting from a newer compatible Blender version may be necessary when an AI-created material appears visually incomplete.

Confirm animation, skinning, and blend shapes
Do not assume that a generated rig is usable because an animation plays in a modeling tool. Test skeleton binding, retargeting, root motion, looping, and compression in the engine. Godot’s import guidance notes that OBJ does not support skinning, animation, UV2, or physically based rendering materials. Choose a format that carries the data your game requires.
Blend-shape exports also depend on a particular deformation-bone setting. If facial expressions or other shape keys disappear, inspect that setting in the Blender export configuration and verify the imported shape names and weights in the engine.
Generate collision and performance data deliberately
Review collision meshes rather than relying on a detailed render mesh for physics. Check triangle counts, texture memory, material slots, skeleton complexity, animation size, and scene draw calls in representative gameplay scenes. Generated assets can contain unnecessary geometry or oversized textures; optimize them after import and measure the result in the target build.
Turn assets into a playable game
Implement the missing game systems
The engine project still needs player controls, camera behavior, game rules, enemy or non-player behavior, scene transitions, audio, interface screens, saving, settings, and error handling. AI-generated meshes and textures are inputs to those systems, not a substitute for them. Build a small vertical slice first: one playable scene, one complete interaction loop, and the same packaging path you intend to use for release.
Test inside the engine, not only in an asset viewer
Run every imported asset in its actual gameplay context. Check:
Recommended Free Tools
- visual scale and camera distance;
- orientation and pivot placement;
- material appearance under the game’s lighting and post-processing;
- animation transitions, foot placement, and root motion;
- collision, navigation, physics, and interaction points;
- frame time, memory use, loading time, and streaming behavior;
- controller, keyboard, mouse, and accessibility behavior where supported.
No universal hardware minimum is established by the available documentation. Profile your own build on the processor, graphics hardware, memory, storage, display modes, and input devices you plan to support, then publish requirements based on those measurements rather than an assumed specification.

Prepare a distributable desktop build
Choose the build configuration early
Set the release platform, architecture, renderer, resolution behavior, save location, and packaging method before final testing. A development editor run can hide missing files, permissive debug settings, or machine-specific dependencies. Test the packaged build from a clean environment that does not contain your source project or editor installation.
Test the exact release candidate
Install the candidate as a player would. Exercise a fresh install, upgrade from an older build if you support one, first launch, save creation, failure recovery, controller reconnection, display changes, and uninstall behavior. Record crashes, corrupted saves, missing textures, shader compilation stalls, and unacceptable loading times. Fix issues in the project and repeat the test on the same platform configuration you will upload.
Handle engine and asset licenses before release
Rights management covers the whole shipped project: generated files, edited files, purchased or downloaded components, fonts, sounds, code libraries, engine runtime components, and any service used to make the content. Keep a manifest that maps each shipped file or package to its origin and license.
Godot obligations
Godot uses the MIT license. Its guidance says the license text must be made available to users, and third-party components can impose separate attribution requirements. A credits screen, license screen, accompanying license file, or license link can satisfy those presentation needs depending on the component and its terms. Include the notices in the release package or in an in-game location that players can reach.
Unreal Engine obligations
Read the current Unreal Engine EULA and any addenda that apply to your project category. Epic distinguishes royalty-free products from royalty products and explains when seat subscriptions apply. The payment result depends on the product and the terms in force, so do not describe the engine as simply “free” or universally royalty-based. If your product has credits, Epic specifies Unreal Engine notices to include; place them exactly as the applicable terms require.
Unity AI and organization controls
Unity says assets created with AI in the Editor include “UnityAI” metadata, which helps teams find and manage those files. Its principles describe plan-based monthly credits and organization controls for enabling AI and allowing developer data to improve Unity AI. Check the plan, workspace settings, and data controls at the time you use the feature; these terms can change.

Audit generated-content rights
Keep evidence for each AI output and confirm that the service permits your intended commercial distribution. Also check whether the output includes third-party likenesses, trademarks, recognizable characters, copyrighted source material, or restricted datasets. A storefront disclosure does not grant you rights to content that you were not allowed to ship.

Complete Steam’s AI disclosure
Steam’s Content Survey distinguishes between “Pre-Generated” and “Live-Generated” AI content. Its AI section concerns “the use of AI in creating content that ships with your game, and is consumed by players.” In other words, a model used only to speed up internal development is treated differently from generated art, dialogue, voices, or other material delivered to players.
Pre-Generated content
Identify the AI services used during development or incorporated into the product and describe the player-facing content they produced. Include generated material that is packaged in the game even if it was created once and never changes during play. Keep the submission consistent with the content actually present in the release build.
Live-Generated content
If the game creates content while it runs, explain the safeguards that prevent illegal content. Describe moderation, filtering, reporting, blocking, or other controls that are genuinely implemented. Valve says AI output is reviewed under the same standards as other content; disclosing AI use does not excuse violations of Steam’s content rules.
Complete the survey for the product and recheck the current questions before submission. Storefront forms and policies can change, so preserve a copy of what you submitted and the build it described.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTreat console publication as a separate milestone
A desktop export cannot simply be uploaded to a console store. Godot’s console guidance describes a process that includes developer registration, legal agreements, an acceptance process, access to platform tools and a devkit, porting work, and regional ratings. Devkit cost is confidential in that guidance, so do not budget from an assumed public price.
Best Value
Plan for access and confidentiality
Console platform holders control developer access and provide the technical requirements after acceptance. You may need approved accounts, nondisclosure agreements, platform SDKs, certification tools, and a physical or authorized development kit. Start this process early because access is not guaranteed merely because the game runs on a desktop.
Budget porting work
Porting can require changes to rendering, memory management, input, suspend and resume behavior, storage, networking, performance targets, and platform services. Godot’s guidance also names third-party services that port Godot games, but selecting a porting partner is a project decision rather than a universal requirement. Test on the actual target hardware and follow the platform holder’s technical checklists.
Obtain ratings for target regions
Console release planning includes ratings in the regions where you intend to sell. Prepare accurate descriptions of violence, language, gambling-like mechanics, user interaction, and other relevant content. A change to generated dialogue, imagery, or live-generation safeguards can alter the information you need to submit.

Common failure points and fixes
The model imports but looks wrong
Check coordinate system, unit scale, transforms, normals, material channel mapping, and texture paths. Re-export a minimal asset and compare it in a clean scene before changing the whole library.
Animation or facial shapes are missing
OBJ cannot carry the required skinning and animation data. Use a format that supports rigs, verify the skeleton and export settings, and inspect the deformation-bone requirement for blend shapes.
The game passes a desktop test but fails on a target device
Use the packaged release build, capture profiling data on the intended hardware, reduce expensive assets or effects, and retest after each optimization. Do not publish hardware requirements until that profiling is complete.
The store asks about AI you did not think was relevant
Answer based on what players receive. Internal productivity use is not the same as AI-created content shipped with the game. If the game generates content at runtime, provide the requested guardrail details and ensure the generated output follows the same content rules as authored material.
