The 10 Mbps figure is a minimum for streaming, not a guarantee of a particular resolution, frame rate, or latency. Luna’s stream quality can change with network stability, congestion, device, location, available bandwidth, and subscription status.

Internet speed and network requirements
The minimum speed is 10 Mbps
Amazon’s official compatibility guidance states: “Minimum internet speed needed to stream with Luna is 10 Mbps.” That is the only universal speed floor Amazon specifies in the cited support information. It is not presented as a promise that every 10 Mbps connection will deliver a particular picture quality or response time.
Amazon does not publish a separate universal upload-speed minimum or a single latency ceiling for all Luna users. A connection can pass a speed test and still feel inconsistent if its latency fluctuates, Wi-Fi signal is weak, other devices consume bandwidth, or the route to Amazon’s servers is congested.

What Amazon recommends for the connection
For best performance, Amazon recommends either a wired Ethernet connection or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Ethernet usually avoids wireless interference and signal changes. A 5 GHz network can be faster and less congested than 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi when the player is close enough to the router, but Amazon does not describe 5 GHz as mandatory.
- Wired Ethernet: the most consistent option when your computer, streaming device, or television is near the router.
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi: Amazon’s preferred wireless band for Luna, provided coverage is strong in the play area.
- Other connections: they may work, but distance, walls, interference, and competing traffic can make play less stable even when the measured speed exceeds 10 Mbps.
Why meeting 10 Mbps may not be enough
Luna is a cloud-streaming service, so every frame travels from Amazon to your device while your controls travel back. The Luna Terms of Use explain that streaming resolution, quality, and latency depend on the compatible device, your location, network connection, available bandwidth, and subscription status. Amazon may reduce or optimize stream quality when bandwidth constraints could otherwise cause an interruption.
The same terms warn that playback can be interrupted when minimum requirements are not met or connectivity problems occur. Treat 10 Mbps as a starting check, then test the connection at the time and location where you will play. Pause large downloads, video streams, cloud backups, and other traffic if the connection is shared.

Supported devices and browser versions
Amazon’s current compatibility list covers computers, mobile devices, Chromebooks, and selected Fire TV hardware. The browser and operating-system combination matters; having a newer device does not automatically make every browser supported.

Amazon says other devices may be able to access Luna through Chrome, but gameplay quality and features may not work as expected. Fire TV support is model-specific, not just an operating-system number, so check the live compatibility list for the exact television or Fire TV device before relying on it.
Compatibility is not permanent. Amazon’s Luna Terms, last updated June 10, 2026, say that the company may add devices or change requirements and that a device’s compatibility can depend on software or systems maintained by the manufacturer or another third party. Check the current support page after a major operating-system, browser, or device update.
Keyboard and mouse support
On supported computers, Luna can be played with a keyboard and mouse instead of a gamepad. If the browser asks for keyboard or mouse permission, allow it; denying that permission can prevent input from reaching the game. This option is useful for players who already have a computer setup and do not want to purchase a controller.

A controller is optional in some setups
There is no universal requirement to buy a dedicated Luna gamepad. Amazon supports compatible third-party controllers, and supported computers can use keyboard and mouse. The Amazon Luna Controller is one optional solution, not a prerequisite.

Amazon organizes compatibility by target device. A controller listed for Windows, for example, should not be assumed to work identically on an iPhone, Android device, Mac, or Fire TV. Use the row for the device you actually plan to use.

Amazon notes that other controllers may work, but some features may be unavailable and third-party hardware may require additional drivers. “Works” can therefore mean basic button input rather than complete feature parity on every device.
Bluetooth versus USB
Amazon’s setup instructions support connecting a compatible controller over Bluetooth or with a data-capable USB cable. A charging-only cable will not carry controller data. Bluetooth avoids a cable but requires pairing and a compatible Bluetooth implementation; USB is often the simpler troubleshooting choice on a computer.
Using a phone as a controller
Amazon supports compatible phones and tablets as virtual controllers for GameNight. That feature is specific to GameNight and should not be treated as a controller for every Luna game. Check the game’s feature support and the current GameNight requirements before relying on a phone-only setup.

What to prepare before launching Luna
- A device and browser combination from Amazon’s current compatibility list.
- An internet connection that measures at least 10 Mbps at the place where you will play.
- Preferably, Ethernet or a stable 5 GHz Wi-Fi connection.
- A compatible controller, a data-capable USB cable, or a supported computer keyboard and mouse.
- Any Luna access or subscription entitlement required for the games you intend to play; Amazon identifies subscription status as one factor in streaming quality.
- Permission for keyboard and mouse input if your browser requests it.
How to set up Amazon Luna
- Confirm the device and browser. Match your hardware and operating system to Amazon’s table. Update Chrome, Edge, Safari, or Android as needed, but recheck the current compatibility page because requirements can change.
- Check the connection. Run a speed test on the same network and near the same location where you will play. Continue only if the measured download speed is at least 10 Mbps; remember that the number alone does not establish acceptable latency or stability.
- Choose the most stable network path. Connect by Ethernet when practical. Otherwise select the 5 GHz Wi-Fi network and reduce distance or obstructions between the device and router.
- Connect your input device. Pair a supported controller over Bluetooth or plug it in with a data-capable USB cable. On a compatible computer, connect a keyboard and mouse instead.
- Open Luna. Start the Luna app where one is available, or open Luna in the compatible browser. If the browser asks for keyboard or mouse permissions, allow them for the session.
- Test input before a long session. Confirm that buttons, sticks, or keyboard keys register. If the controller is not detected, reconnect it by USB, re-pair Bluetooth, and verify that it appears in the compatibility list for that device.
- Start the game and watch for network symptoms. A blurry picture, delayed controls, or repeated interruptions can indicate congestion or instability even when the speed test passed. Stop other bandwidth-heavy activity and retest before replacing hardware.
Choosing a setup by device
PC or Mac
A PC or Mac offers the broadest input choice in the listed combinations: Chrome or Edge at the required version, plus a compatible controller or keyboard and mouse. Ethernet is practical for a desk setup. If a controller works over USB but not Bluetooth, use the wired connection while checking drivers and pairing settings.
Chromebook
Chromebooks use Chrome 86 or later in Amazon’s table. A supported controller may be connected by Bluetooth or USB, while keyboard and mouse remain the natural fallback. Confirm that the particular controller is supported on ChromeOS rather than assuming Windows compatibility carries over.
iPhone or iPad
Amazon lists Safari on iOS 15 or later for iPhone and Safari on iPadOS 15 or later for iPad. Controller support is device-specific, so check Amazon’s controller table for the exact Apple device. A phone used as a virtual controller is documented for GameNight, not as a universal control method for all Luna titles.
Android
Amazon lists Chrome 86 or later on Android 10 or later. Android hardware varies considerably, making the live compatibility list and the controller table especially important. Bluetooth pairing may be convenient, while a compatible USB connection can help isolate wireless problems.

Fire TV
Amazon lists compatible Fire TV devices running Fire OS 5, Vega OS 1.1, or later. The operating-system requirement alone is insufficient: verify the exact Fire TV model. Use a controller listed for that device rather than transferring assumptions from the Windows or mobile tables.
Troubleshooting common failures
The speed test is below 10 Mbps
Move closer to the router, switch to Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi, stop competing downloads and streams, and test again. If the connection remains below Amazon’s minimum, Luna may not stream reliably; changing controllers will not solve a bandwidth shortfall.
The speed is adequate but play is laggy or interrupted
Check stability rather than only the headline speed. Wireless interference, congestion, and changing bandwidth can produce latency or interruptions. Try Ethernet, reduce traffic from other devices, and repeat the test at the time problems occur. Amazon’s terms allow stream quality to be optimized when bandwidth is constrained.
Luna will not open or features are missing
Verify the exact browser, operating-system version, and device model against Amazon’s current list. An unsupported device may load Luna through Chrome while still lacking expected gameplay quality or features. Browser permission prompts can also block keyboard and mouse input.
The controller is not recognized
Confirm that the controller appears in the compatibility row for your target device. Reconnect it with a data-capable USB cable, or remove and recreate the Bluetooth pairing. If it is a third-party model, check whether the device needs an additional driver and whether Amazon warns that some features are unavailable.
A previously compatible device stopped working
Recheck Amazon’s live compatibility page after operating-system or manufacturer updates. The Luna Terms state that requirements and compatible-device status may change, including because of software maintained by another company.
Bottom line for a first-time setup
Start with a supported device and browser, verify at least 10 Mbps, and use Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi if possible. Add the controller you already own if Amazon lists it for that device; otherwise use keyboard and mouse on a supported computer or consider the optional Amazon Luna Controller. The deciding factors are device-specific compatibility and network stability, not simply buying a particular accessory.
