A $10,000 investment in SpaceX at the $150 opening price used by The Motley Fool would have been worth $9,137 on September 29, 2026, according to the article’s calculation. That is a dated share-price comparison, not a current quote or a forecast. The assigned title, “SpaceX on black filter with Earth’s outline in background,” is the image caption accompanying that Motley Fool article—not a separate SpaceX product or service.
How the $9,137 estimate was calculated
The Motley Fool’s October 1, 2026 article, “If You’d Invested $10,000 in SpaceX at Its IPO, Here’s How Much You’d Have Today,” uses a $150 IPO opening price and a September 29, 2026 comparison price to estimate that $10,000 would be worth $9,137. The result reflects those stated assumptions and dates. It should not be read as the value on October 1, 2026, or on any later date.
The $150 opening price in that calculation is different from SpaceX’s $135 IPO offer price. SpaceX said it priced 555,555,555 Class A shares at $135 each. The company’s shares began trading on June 12, 2026, under ticker SPCX on the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas. An offer price and a market opening price are distinct reference points; the Motley Fool’s hypothetical uses the latter.
What the IPO figures tell you—and what they do not
SpaceX’s closing announcement reported approximately $85.7 billion in gross proceeds to the company from the offering. That is the company’s reported gross proceeds, not the gain or loss of an individual investor and not the amount raised by every shareholder selling stock.

The Motley Fool presents the $9,137 figure as a retrospective hypothetical. It is not a guarantee about future performance, and it does not by itself describe an investor’s full after-tax return. A real comparison would depend on the actual purchase and sale prices, transaction costs, taxes, and any distributions.
SpaceX’s reported business results at the time
For the quarter ended June 30, 2026, SpaceX reported $7.8 billion in revenue, up 92% from $4.1 billion in the year-earlier quarter, and a net loss of $541 million. These are company-reported quarterly results; revenue growth does not mean the company was profitable.

SpaceX’s SEC quarterly filing also describes higher capital spending on data centers, related infrastructure, and space launch facilities. Capital investment can support future operations, but spending is not itself evidence that those investments will produce a particular return. The Motley Fool article discusses valuation, share-price volatility, losses, and capital spending as part of its analysis; those interpretations should be distinguished from the company’s reported financial figures.

How to interpret the hypothetical
- Keep the date attached: $9,137 is the Motley Fool’s estimate using its September 29, 2026 comparison, not a live SPCX valuation.
- Keep the price assumption attached: its calculation starts from a stated $150 opening price, while SpaceX’s announced IPO offer price was $135.
- Compare like with like: when comparing SPCX with another investment, use matching start and end dates and consistent price or total-return methods, and account for fees, taxes, and dividends where relevant.
- Do not infer a forecast: a past hypothetical says what a specified investment would have been worth under specified assumptions; it does not predict what the shares will do next.
