For YouTube Live at 4K/2160p and 60 fps, plan for about 42 Mbps of sustained upload capacity with AV1 or H.265 (HEVC), or about 60 Mbps with H.264. Those practical targets apply YouTube’s recommended 20% upload headroom to its recommended video bitrates; they are planning calculations, not official minimum internet-plan speeds. Your actual stream also carries audio and other data, so test the setup you intend to use.
Upload targets for 4K/2160p at 60 fps
YouTube’s live-encoder guidance recommends different video bitrates depending on the codec. Its separate advice is to leave 20% room above the total stream bitrate. Applying that margin to the recommended video bitrate gives these approximate sustained-upload targets:
| Live video codec | YouTube recommended video bitrate at 2160p/60 | Practical upload target with 20% headroom |
|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265 (HEVC) | 35 Mbps | About 42 Mbps |
| H.264 | 50 Mbps | About 60 Mbps |
The calculation is 35 × 1.2 = 42 Mbps or 50 × 1.2 = 60 Mbps. YouTube describes 20% as recommended room, not as a separate minimum connection speed. Total stream bitrate can include audio and other stream components, so do not treat the calculation as a guarantee that every connection at exactly that speed will be stable. YouTube’s live encoder settings list the video recommendations; its streaming tips explain upload headroom.
Encoder minimums are not internet-speed recommendations
YouTube’s live-encoder table also lists minimum encoder bitrate settings of 10 Mbps for AV1/H.265 and 14 Mbps for H.264 at 2160p/60. These are encoder settings, not ISP upload-speed targets, and do not promise the picture quality every creator wants.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check upload capacity, not the plan’s download speed
A broadband plan’s headline download figure does not tell you how quickly it can send a live stream. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often higher than outbound bandwidth, so check the upload or outbound speed available to the streaming device.
- Run a speed test on the network and device you will actually stream with.
- Pay attention to results during a busy period as well as an isolated best-case result. Other people and devices using the same connection can reduce the capacity available to your stream.
- Compare the available upload capacity with your codec’s target, leaving room for audio, other stream data and normal network variation.
If your connection falls short, lower the stream’s resolution or frame rate, or use a codec and bitrate the encoder and YouTube support that fit the available upload. Do not assume an advertised download speed compensates for inadequate outbound capacity. YouTube’s network guidance recommends testing outbound capacity and warns that shared use affects bandwidth.

Rehearse with the real stream settings
- Set the encoder to the intended 2160p/60 configuration. Choose the codec and bitrate your encoder supports, using YouTube’s live settings as a reference: YouTube live encoder settings.
- Run a controlled test stream before the event. Include audio and a level of movement similar to the planned broadcast; a static desktop is not a realistic test for a high-motion event.
- Check YouTube’s stream-health information and messages. Watch during the test for connection or bitrate problems rather than relying only on the speed-test result.
- Repeat under realistic network conditions. If household or office network use changes, test when that competing use is present.
YouTube specifically recommends testing with audio and movement similar to the actual stream, then monitoring stream health. A wired Ethernet connection can be a useful reliability measure when your equipment supports it, but it cannot increase the upload capacity supplied by your internet service. YouTube’s streaming tips discuss network reliability and Ethernet in connection with backup-encoder testing.
4K latency and bitrate details to know
4K streams use normal latency
YouTube says its low-latency optimization option is unavailable for 4K/2160 streams; 4K streams are set to normal latency. If very low interaction delay matters more than 4K resolution, weigh that trade-off before choosing the stream format. YouTube’s live encoder guidance describes the limitation.

Live bitrate is not prerecorded-upload bitrate
For 2160p SDR prerecorded uploads at high frame rates, YouTube lists a video bitrate range of 53–68 Mbps. That recommendation is for uploading a finished video file, not for live ingestion. For a 4K/60 live broadcast, use the live encoder recommendations in the table above. YouTube’s upload encoding settings cover prerecorded files.

If the goal is to keep uploaded video playing as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative to running a live encoder at home. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud; it does not broadcast a camera feed. Because the stream runs in the cloud, your computer and home connection do not have to stay on. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream, and uploaded video streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, without re-encoding or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo or start the free first day.
