The design is expected to use quiet electric propulsion, tilting propellers, app-based booking and dedicated skyports—but the passenger cabin mockup shown along the way is not itself a certified aircraft, and public service still depends on aviation approval.
Uber’s first flying-taxi concept
Uber’s original proposal was an app-requested electric vertical-takeoff-and-landing aircraft designed for short urban trips. Riders would request a flight much as they request a car, then travel between rooftop facilities instead of using congested streets.

The concept emphasized several small electric motors and propellers rather than one large engine. That distributed-propulsion layout was intended to support vertical takeoff, efficient forward flight and lower perceived noise than conventional helicopter service. Uber also imagined a network of skyports where aircraft could load passengers, recharge and move on to the next trip.
What Uber Elevate specified
Uber Elevate turned the broad idea into a more concrete aircraft brief. Its target was a piloted eVTOL with room for one pilot and four riders, a cruise speed of at least 150 mph and a range of up to 60 miles. Those were program targets, not proof that a production aircraft had achieved them.
#1 Best Overall
- Experience the Fascinating Lights and Demo Mode: The flying aircraft has brilliant lights that can change into 7 attractive colors, providing an eye-pleasing visual display. Children find this vibrant color diversity to be especially captivating. Under the demo mode, the helicopter performs auto-rotation or circle fly, providing an extra level of excitement and engagement. It's an excellent indoor activity for you and your kids to make priceless memories.
- Enjoy the Ease of Use: This radio controlled helicopter performs a stable hover with its an Upgraded Gyro system. Release your control, and it will hover in position, patiently awaiting your next command. The controls are simple to use, you can effortlessly make it ascend/descend, move forward/backward, and turn left/right. Besides, different skill levels can be accommodated by the customizable Speed settings; and functions like the one-key take-off/land button and trimmer button make it easy.
- Experience Great Durability: With a single modular battery, you can enjoy 15-17 minutes of flight time; two batteries doubles your joy to 30-34 minutes. The helicopter makes low battery alart when it is losing power. In collisions or crashes, the helicopter's sturdy PVC body, and landing gears work as great buffer lowering the possibility of damage. The Control Board, gears, and other delicate components are further protected from external impacts by the Alloy Structure. NOTE:The indicator light is OFF under charging and remains ON when fully charged.
- Safety Features: The rechargeable modular batteries are built with cutting-edge charging safety against over-charge,over-current,and low voltage scenarios. Simply control it from any angle or location inside your home without worrying about losing signal because it uses 2.4Ghz frequency, which has a long transmission distance and great anti-interference.When using several 2.4Ghz RC toys, there is no interference. Additionally, the propellers rotate at a reasonable speed, protect your home's decor.
- Unlock Educational Opportunities for Kids: The RC helicopter offers more than just fun; it enhances children's creativity, problem-solving skills, hand-eye coordination, and spatial awareness. Even better, it might spark a passion for engineering or aviation that could lead to future employment prospects or financial aid. Children can learn valuable skills while having fun and learning via the thrill of helicopter flying.
The Elevate approach also formalized distributed propulsion: several electric propulsors would handle takeoff and landing before supporting efficient cruise flight. The operating model depended on skyports, short urban routes and an app that could combine an air leg with conventional ground transportation.
What the Safran cabin revealed—and what it did not
Safran’s Mission Driven Cabin was a full-scale passenger-cabin mockup developed through six design iterations. It was arranged around the experience of a 15-minute urban flight, giving designers a way to examine seating, boarding, visibility and the use of a compact cabin before an aircraft entered service.

- 2 Selectable Frequencies to Switch
- Upgrade Gyro System
- Small Size but Powerful
- Colorful Flashing Light
That distinction matters: the Safran exhibit was a mockup, not a certified flying vehicle. Its cabin layout should not be read as the final interior of the aircraft Uber passengers will eventually use, and the mockup’s 15-minute mission was a design scenario rather than a demonstrated commercial performance figure.

With intuitive one-button functions for takeoff and landing, Altitude Hold for stable hovering, and an advanced built-in gyroscope, this chopper is capable of helping beginners fly like pros in no time. It’s an excellent choice for young kids, teens, and even adults who want to experience flying without complicated controls
- Dual Speed Modes: Equipped with two speed settings — low speed is perfect for learning and practicing in smaller spaces, while high speed lets you zip around like a pro once you’ve mastered the basics. It’s a toy that grows with your child, adapting to their abilities and keeping them engaged
- Multi-Heli Flying Fun: With advanced 2.4GHz frequency technology, multiple helicopters can fly simultaneously without interference. Ideal for indoor family fun or backyard races on sunny days — it’s a great way to encourage bonding and teamwork
- A Gift with Meaning and Fun: This RC helicopter is more than just a cool toy—it’s a memorable gift experience. Perfect for birthdays, Christmas, Easter, or simply as a surprise. It sparks hands-on exploration, sharpens coordination, and creates memorable parent-child playtime moments
Joby’s configuration uses six tilting propellers. They rotate to provide vertical lift for takeoff and landing, then change orientation for forward flight. The published target is up to 200 mph and up to 100 miles of range, with capacity for up to four passengers. “Up to” is important: actual routes, payload, weather and regulatory limits can reduce usable speed or range.
The intended customer flow is one-tap booking in Uber’s app rather than a separate aviation reservation system. The aircraft would operate through purpose-built skyports, so the service depends on both aircraft certification and the construction and approval of suitable takeoff-and-landing sites.

Is Uber’s flying taxi real yet?
There is a real aircraft-development program behind the current plan, but “real” does not yet mean a universally bookable Uber ride. The Safran display was a cabin mockup, and the earlier Elevate figures described a program target. The commercial aircraft now associated with Uber Air is Joby’s eVTOL, whose operation still requires the relevant aviation certifications and approvals.

Dubai service is expected later in 2026, subject to certification. That wording describes a target, not a guaranteed launch date. It also does not establish that service is already open to the public or that the same timing applies to other cities.

When can you book one?
The intended booking method is a one-tap request through Uber, but a public booking window is not specified. Until certification is complete and an approved skyport network is operating, the app experience remains a planned part of the service rather than a normal Uber option.
For a prospective rider, the meaningful milestones are:
- Certification of Joby’s aircraft and its operating procedures.
- Approval and readiness of the skyports needed for the route.
- A confirmed launch date and service area, beginning with the proposed Dubai operation.
- Publication of actual routes, fares and booking availability in the Uber app.
What riders should expect from the final design
The finished vehicle is likely to feel more like a compact aircraft than a flying car: passengers board at a designated facility, fly a short scheduled urban route and leave at another skyport. Electric motors and distributed propellers are central to the noise and emissions goals, while tilting propellers allow one vehicle to combine vertical takeoff with airplane-style cruise.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsThe exact cabin, exterior styling, route network and passenger procedures can still change as Joby completes certification and operators refine the service. The clearest current picture is therefore a Joby-built electric eVTOL accessed through Uber’s app—not the Safran mockup or the earliest Elevate sketch as a finished product.
