Short answer: You do not need to read every Absolute Universe series before Absolute Justice. For the most focused preparation, read Absolute Evil #1 first, then Absolute Wonder Woman #15 and Absolute Batman #16 for the first Batman/Wonder Woman crossover. Add Absolute Superman #20–21 only if you want the separate ancient-League history thread, and use DC All In Special #1 as optional launch background.
Current October 2026 announcement coverage describes Absolute Justice as a five-issue Absolute Universe event written by Jason Aaron and drawn by Juan Ferreyra, with issue #1 planned for April 2027. DC has not yet established a complete required-reading checklist, final roster, or tie-in policy in the information currently available, so the route below separates useful context from material that is merely adjacent.

Why start with Absolute Evil #1?
The issue is the clearest single-issue entry point for readers asking about the event’s antagonistic side. Absolute Superman #20 and #21
These two issues are useful if you are interested in the Absolute Universe’s older history and the storyline involving an ancient League. Be careful with the terminology. The combatants named in the current Superman conflict should not automatically be presented as the confirmed roster of an ancient League. The available material discusses the history thread but does not verify a definitive event lineup from it. Read these issues for world-building, not as a guaranteed character checklist.
When to add them
Add Absolute Superman #20–21 after the three-issue focused route if you enjoy mythology, historical revelations, or seeing how the Absolute Universe’s past may shape its present. If your only goal is to understand the central crossover premise, they can wait until DC publishes formal solicitations that identify any connection.

DC All In Special #1
DC All In Special #1 provides background on the launch of the Absolute Universe. It is useful for readers who want the publishing and world-building setup behind the line, but the focused guides do not identify it as required preparation for the villain debut or the announced event.
Because it is launch background rather than a specific Absolute Justice setup issue, place it last in an expanded route. Reading it first will not replace Absolute Evil #1, and it is not necessary if you are trying to keep the catch-up list short.
Do you have to read every Absolute series?
No. Nothing in the October 2026 announcement coverage establishes that readers must complete every ongoing Absolute title before issue #1. The current evidence supports a selected route through connected stories, not a universal chronology.

Reading every series can be enjoyable, but it creates three practical problems:

- It increases the commitment without a confirmed payoff. The publisher has not yet listed every issue that will be referenced by the event.
- It blurs confirmed links and fan inference. A character, villain, or historical detail can be interesting without being part of the event.
- It becomes difficult to maintain. Ongoing books may publish additional issues before April 2027, changing any informal reading order.
Use the focused route now, then check DC’s formal solicitations as they are released. Solicitations may clarify final dates, tie-ins, collected-edition contents, and any issue-specific prerequisites.
What is confirmed about Absolute Justice?
October 2026 reports describe the project as a five-issue miniseries planned to begin with issue #1 in April 2027. Those reports name Jason Aaron as writer and Juan Ferreyra as artist. They are the latest scheduling details in the material currently available and supersede an earlier ComicsPRO planning reference that placed an Absolute Universe event in the fourth quarter of 2026.
The earlier Q4 2026 plan is therefore historical, not the current launch date. A planned April 2027 release can still change before final solicitation, so treat the date as announced scheduling rather than a guarantee of availability.
Details that remain unconfirmed
- The final hero roster.
- The final villain roster.
- Whether the event will have tie-in issues.
- Which ongoing series, if any, are mandatory reading.
- The exact release dates for all five issues.
- Whether a particular collected edition will contain every recommended prelude issue.
One October report describes the event as involving six heroes, but the available material does not include an official DC roster that verifies which six characters those are. Do not use that description as a substitute for a confirmed lineup.

Single issues
The clearest way to follow the recommended route is to obtain the individual issues: Absolute Evil #1, Absolute Wonder Woman #15, and Absolute Batman #16. This preserves the publication format and makes the two-part crossover easy to identify.
Availability, edition, and retailer details are not established here. Before buying, verify the issue number and contents, especially when a retailer lists a reprint, digital edition, variant, or similarly titled collection.
Collected editions

Which older “Absolute Justice” is this?
The announced crossover is not the only DC work associated with the title Absolute Justice. An older DC catalog entry uses the name in connection with the 2005 Justice series. That earlier work is distinct from the announced Absolute Universe event and is not shown by the available information to be required reading.
When searching a library, comic shop, digital storefront, or catalog, confirm that the listing refers to the planned 2027 five-issue Absolute Universe miniseries rather than the older work. The shared title can otherwise produce an apparently relevant result that belongs to a different continuity and era.
What to watch for as DC publishes more information
Because the event is planned for April 2027, the most useful updates will come from formal DC solicitations rather than early summaries. Check for these specific changes:
