What to Read After Naruto: Manga Recommendations for Fans

The best next manga depends on which part of Naruto you want to repeat. Start with Hunter x Hunter for a young lead, a personal quest and demanding tests; choose One Piece for a huge adventure built around a clear ambition; or pick My Hero Academia for an aspirational hero story. YuYu Hakusho is the creator-linked choice, while Boruto: Naruto Next Generations keeps you in the Naruto universe. Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen are sensible additional options, but the official catalogue information available here does not establish detailed tone or premise comparisons.

Choose by the Naruto element you miss most

Naruto combines several ideas that do not always lead to the same recommendation: a young protagonist with a defining goal, a widening circle of companions, training and examinations, idealistic heroism, and a long adventure that grows in scope. Rather than claiming that one series is objectively closest, use the table below to identify the feature you want next.

A young hero reaching for an aspirational role My Hero Academia Izuku Midoriya wants to become a hero despite beginning without power, then receives an opportunity after meeting All Might.
Another series by the Hunter x Hunter creator YuYu Hakusho VIZ identifies Yoshihiro Togashi as Hunter x Hunter’s creator and describes YuYu Hakusho as his earlier hit.

1. Hunter x Hunter: the closest match for journey and tests

Choose Hunter x Hunter first if what hooked you was watching a young character pursue a personal goal while each trial opens into a larger world. Shueisha’s MANGA Plus description says Gon sets out to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a Hunter, with applicants facing tests along the way. VIZ similarly presents Gon’s quest to find his father and the difficult license examination.

That setup echoes Naruto’s combination of an ambitious young lead, structured challenges and an expanding adventure without implying that the two stories are identical. The official VIZ page captures the scale of the premise in one line: “Plucky Gon’s quest to find his dad leads him into a whole world of crazy adventure.” Read the VIZ Hunter x Hunter series page for the premise, creator information and available editions.

How to try it without a large commitment

VIZ lists Hunter x Hunter, Vol. 1, later individual volumes and 3-in-1 editions. Start with the first volume if you want to test the protagonist and examination setup before collecting more. A 3-in-1 edition can make sense when you already know you want several volumes, but formats and stock can change.

Why it is a practical first recommendation

VIZ’s editor recommendations for the series include YuYu Hakusho, Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece. That does not establish a universal ranking, but it gives readers useful nearby routes once they finish a volume. The page also identifies Yoshihiro Togashi as the creator, which makes his earlier work an especially direct follow-up for readers who respond to his storytelling.

2. One Piece: for a central ambition and a vast adventure

Pick One Piece when the part of Naruto you most want is a hero with a clearly stated dream and a journey that keeps opening outward. Shueisha introduces Luffy’s ambition to become king of the pirates and his search for the legendary One Piece. Its official Action-adventure page places One Piece alongside Naruto, Hunter x Hunter and My Hero Academia, making the premise connection explicit without requiring a claim about identical tone or pacing.

This is the choice for readers who enjoy the forward pull of a long quest: the goal is simple to understand, while the route toward it can broaden into new places, challenges and companions. The available source does not establish an exact reading time or a reliable total-length comparison, so decide based on your willingness to begin a long-running adventure rather than an invented volume estimate.

Best buying approach

For a low-risk start, buy or borrow the first collected volume and decide after meeting Luffy and the series’ core premise. VIZ lists One Piece box sets in its catalogue, which can suit readers who already know they want to collect several volumes. Availability, edition contents and pricing are changeable; verify the current listing before ordering.

3. My Hero Academia: for aspirational heroism

My Hero Academia fits readers who most enjoyed Naruto’s ideal of a young person striving toward a role that initially seems out of reach. Shueisha describes Izuku Midoriya as wanting to become a hero even though he starts without power, then receiving an opportunity after meeting All Might. The emotional engine is therefore aspiration: the protagonist’s goal is defined before he has the obvious ability to achieve it.

Choose this over One Piece when the role itself matters more to you than an open-ended treasure hunt. Choose it over Hunter x Hunter when you want the clearest “ordinary beginning, extraordinary ambition” setup. Those distinctions come from the published premises, not from a measured audience-preference survey.

Shueisha’s Action-adventure guide groups My Hero Academia with recognizable shonen titles including Naruto and One Piece. VIZ also lists the series in its manga catalogue and offers box-set listings. A first volume is the sensible trial; a box set is better reserved for readers who already know they want a larger collection.

4. YuYu Hakusho: a creator-linked next read

YuYu Hakusho is the most concrete choice when your priority is reading another work by the creator of Hunter x Hunter. VIZ identifies Yoshihiro Togashi as the creator of Hunter x Hunter, describes YuYu Hakusho as his earlier hit manga and dates its run to 1990–1994. VIZ also includes it among the editor recommendations attached to Hunter x Hunter.

That connection is meaningful, but it is not evidence that the premise, tone or character dynamics are identical to Naruto or Hunter x Hunter. Approach it as a chance to see Togashi’s earlier work rather than as a guaranteed substitute for a particular Naruto arc.

5. Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen: additional shonen routes

Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen are reasonable titles to browse after Naruto, especially if you want to remain within the broad shonen field. VIZ’s catalogue features both series; it calls Bleach a fan favorite, and its box-set listings include Jujutsu Kaisen. A publisher-produced guide from Hachette Book Group and Running Press Kids lists both among its “Super Shonen” examples, alongside Hunter x Hunter, YuYu Hakusho and Dr. Stone.

The available official pages do not provide enough detail here to make responsible claims about horror elements, romance, violence, completion status or age suitability. Check each title’s current official series page and the rating or content information supplied by the bookseller before committing. Treat these as discovery options rather than as ranked matches.

6. Boruto: Naruto Next Generations: stay in the same world

If a new setting is not what you want, Boruto: Naruto Next Generations is the obvious franchise-continuation route. VIZ lists the title in its official catalogue. However, the catalogue entry alone does not establish the full continuity explanation, the recommended reading order or whether the series is designed for someone seeking a fresh start after Naruto.

Before buying, open the current VIZ manga catalogue and the official Boruto series listing, then confirm how the edition you are considering fits your existing Naruto collection. This check matters more here than with a new series because your decision depends on continuity and familiarity, not only on a premise.

What “shonen” has in common with Naruto

A Kid’s Guide to Anime & Manga, published by Hachette Book Group and Running Press Kids in 2023, describes the Shonen Jump style through young heroes overcoming obstacles and emphasizes hard work, team spirit and self-improvement. It names Naruto, One Piece and My Hero Academia as examples and includes Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, YuYu Hakusho and Dr. Stone in its “Super Shonen” list.

That framework explains why these titles appear together in recommendation lists, but genre labels are not substitutes for a premise match. Use the individual goals above to narrow your choice.

A practical decision path

  1. Name the feature you miss. Write down whether it is Naruto’s personal goal, examinations and training, group adventure, aspirational heroism or the established universe.
  2. Choose one first-volume test. Select Hunter x Hunter for quest-and-tests, One Piece for ambition-and-adventure, My Hero Academia for aspirational heroism, YuYu Hakusho for Togashi’s earlier work or Boruto for continuity.
  3. Check the current edition. VIZ lists individual volumes, 3-in-1 editions and box sets across these series. Confirm the format, included volumes and availability on the live listing because catalogues change.
  4. Commit only after the premise lands. If the first volume delivers the feature you wanted, continue with the same edition family; if not, move across the table rather than assuming every shonen title offers the same experience.

Buying and collecting without outdated assumptions

Physical manga volumes are the direct product fit for this question. A straightforward search phrase is Hunter x Hunter manga volume 1, since VIZ lists Volume 1 on its official page. Other natural collection searches include One Piece manga box set and Jujutsu Kaisen complete box set; VIZ’s catalogue has listed box sets for those series, as well as for My Hero Academia.

Do not assume that a search result proves current stock, price, discount or edition contents. Those details can change by country, retailer and date. Verify the publisher’s listing and the bookseller’s live product page before purchasing, particularly when a box set replaces individual volumes or when a 3-in-1 edition changes the number of physical books you receive.

Bottom line: match the feature, not the label

Start with Hunter x Hunter if you want Naruto’s young-protagonist journey and testing structure. Choose One Piece for a defining ambition and expansive adventure, or My Hero Academia for a hero reaching toward an aspirational role. Read YuYu Hakusho for another Togashi series, browse Bleach and Jujutsu Kaisen as further shonen options after checking their current official details, and choose Boruto only when remaining in Naruto’s world matters more than starting fresh.
