Choose your next game by the part you want more of: Gears of War: Reloaded is the closest match for cover shooting and squad action; God of War Ragnarök suits character-led combat and spectacle; and The Last of Us Part II leans into tense survival, stealth, and melee. These are similar games to try for different reasons—not interchangeable copies.

Gears of War: E-Day is a third-person cover shooter about Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago facing the Locust emergence. Xbox lists it for Xbox Series X|S and Windows, with a release date of October 6, 2026, and says it is included with Game Pass at launch. That date is two days after the official Xbox page was checked on October 4, 2026, so the launch is imminent. See Xbox’s E-Day page.

Marvel’s Wolverine takes a different route: PlayStation describes it as a single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure, with aggressive momentum and Rage in its combat. See PlayStation’s Wolverine page. The recommendations below separate those two tastes rather than treating them as one genre.
If you want more Gears-style cover shooting
Gears of War: Reloaded
This is the most direct fit if what you want after E-Day is the Gears formula. PlayStation calls Gears of War: Reloaded “the iconic original third-person cover shooter” and lists its campaign as playable solo, in split-screen, or online co-op. That makes it the clearest choice here for cover-based ranged combat and playing through a campaign with someone else.
#1 Best Overall
- AN ORIGIN STORY BEGINS — Fight alongside Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago in the gripping origin story of Emergence Day, as the Locust Horde erupts from below.
- A DARKER, GRITTIER THREAT — Face reimagined enemies and a terrifying underground invasion that restores the fear, dread, and intensity at the heart of the Gears of War series.
- MULTIPLAYER EVOLVED — Battle in Horde Siege for large‑scale PvE action or prove your skill in refined Versus PvP with greater precision and competitive depth.
- CLASSIC COMBAT, MODERNIZED — Experience signature cover‑based gameplay enhanced with updated movement, traversal, and controls that feel like Gears while playing like something new.
- CO‑OP YOUR WAY — Play online with up to four players across Campaign, Horde Siege, and Versus, or team up locally with 2‑player split‑screen co‑op on console.

If Wolverine’s character-led action is the draw
God of War Ragnarök
God of War Ragnarök is a strong broad match for a player looking for a major character-led action story rather than another cover shooter. Its official description centers on Kratos and Atreus and highlights synergized attacks, weapon abilities, and combat progression. Those traits make it a fit for players drawn to forceful combat within a larger narrative, though it is not a Wolverine clone or a cover shooter. Read PlayStation’s God of War Ragnarök overview.

If you want intensity with survival and stealth
The Last of Us Part II
Choose The Last of Us Part II for a more grounded, survival-focused kind of intensity. PlayStation’s description lists high-intensity melee, stealth, fluid movement, weapons, crafting, skills, and upgrades, alongside an emotional story about pursuing justice. Its mix of close combat and narrative pressure may appeal to a Wolverine player, but the tone and survival emphasis are distinct from superhero spectacle. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is another PS5 Marvel adventure, starring Peter Parker and Miles Morales. It makes sense if you want to stay in a superhero setting, but the official material cited here establishes its action-adventure identity—not a one-to-one match for Wolverine’s combat.
